@@Sean-yt1jn yes, I understand that. They would need to find a way to make room like trading Saros and Yaroslav for Marner and one of the Leafs goalies plus draft picks. There's always a way. They would be stupid to do it but wishful thinking 😂

They said the same thing about Levi for Buffalo. Dominated in college, did good in the AHL but when the opportunity was given to him in the NHL it was squandered. Sure there are games where you look great but there are just as many games where you will look bad. Just because they are good at the AHL level doesnt mean they will be good at a young age in the NHL. Look at the playoff stats, when going up against good teams it appears he falters.

Detroit should try to make an offer or just inquire about a possible trade. We do have Cossa and Augustine. Two top goalie prospects. I have followed this goalie, and i think he's solid. But i doubt Detroit would trade for him. From what i understand, Detroit is pretty high on Cossa and Augustine. But ya never know? Detroit historicaly likes Russian born players. Just not as goalies. And trust me, nationalities can be important. Especially Canadian goalies.

@Sean-yt1jn

I doubt the validity of his trade request. I think the plan is he spends one more year in the AHL and the Preds want to see him improve in the playoffs next year. He may get a handful of NHL games this season too. Next year he probably gets more NHL starts, maybe 20-25, and if he does well this season maybe Wedgewood gets traded early and Askarov becomes the backup sooner, like next year. Then he and Saros split 40/40 and once he is a more proven NHL commodity maybe Saros is willing to move to a contender when the Preds start a soft rebuild around Askarov once Stamkos and Marchessault are on the tail end of their contracts. Of course, an amazing offer for Askarov comes in a Trotz will take the bait, hes made that clear

They have Cossa, and Trey Augustine, why would they need Askarov unless one of them. I like the idea but idk if Yzerman would do it because of his confidence in the guys he has drafted to become great goalies as well.
@0shark096
@0shark096 Ай бұрын
@R376yt I agree, the only thing that might make it possible is Askarov is ready now. Maybe trade Cossa plus another goalie, and pick or prospect for value. It would solidify the position today and give Augustine time to cook. Nashville gets a backup this year and a high prospect that needs a bit more time in Cossa. Basically the timing may be better for both teams with a trade.

Could've resigned Saros shorter term and split games between them and if Askarov is really good then trade Saros. Honestly, if Jet Greaves doesn't show up in the NHL for Columbus, it would give Askarov a starting job, as Merzlikins might not be that good anymore if he keeps declining. The kid is a fool then. He is an unproven commodity. Couldn't even carry the Ads on his back through the playoffs and he wants to jump into the NHL? Please. I've been a STH of the Preds for 24 years, and after seeing a Vezina-winning Pekka and Vezina-nominated Saros, where else would a goalie rather be, especially with Pekka still involved with the organization and Mitch Korn returning to Nashville? If true, it sounds like immaturity and impatience. If he wants to go, then deal him for the right price...a first round pick or another such prospect of equally perceived value.
