Biography of the composer:
---
Scott Joplin (November 24, 1868 - April 1, 1917) was an American composer and pianist. Dubbed the "King of Ragtime", he composed more than 40 ragtime pieces, one ragtime ballet, and two operas. One of his first and most popular pieces, the "Maple Leaf Rag", became the genre's first and most influential hit, later being recognized as the quintessential rag. Joplin considered ragtime to be a form of classical music meant to be played in concert halls and largely disdained the performance of ragtime as honky tonk music most common in saloons.
Joplin grew up in a musical family of railway laborers in Texarkana, Arkansas. During the late 1880s, he traveled the American South as a musician. He went to Chicago for the World's Fair of 1893, which helped make ragtime a national craze by 1897. Joplin moved to Sedalia, Missouri, in 1894 and worked as a piano teacher. He began publishing music in 1895, and his "Maple Leaf Rag" in 1899 brought him fame and eventually a steady income. In 1901, Joplin moved to St. Louis and two years later scored his first opera, A Guest of Honor. It was confiscated-along with his belongings-for non-payment of bills and is now considered lost.[4] In 1907, Joplin moved to New York City to (unsuccessfully) find a producer for a new opera. In 1916, Joplin descended into dementia from neurosyphilis. His 1917 death marks the end of the ragtime era.
Joplin's music was rediscovered and returned to popularity in the early 1970s with the release of a million-selling album recorded by Joshua Rifkin.[5] This was followed by the Academy Award-winning 1973 film The Sting, which featured several of Joplin's compositions. Treemonisha, his second opera, was produced in 1972 and in 1976 he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize.

That is without a doubt, the best version of that piece I have ever heard, and I have heard many, many versions over a period of 50 years or more! I love the variations you so tastefully included such as moving down an octave here and there and certain subtle rolls and the whole arrangement. It sounded to me like perfection itself. There were right hand staccato places in the first section that were exquisite. I can imagine how exhuberant you feel as you play this! It filled my heart with joy! Now, to listen again.......Piotr pointed out, down below in the comment, that it was a little quick, and it was. And we all know that Joplin told us not to play ragtime too fast, but I'm sure if Joplin heard this version he would love it! And in my opinion it was a great selection, because it is one of Joplin's finest compositions, in my opinion, that is.

Man, my heart filled with joy after reading your comment! Thank you very much for the kind words my friend :) Elite Syncopations is indeed one of Joplin's best, and I always have a blast playing it. It might be not immediately noticeable, but during the whole recording I was tapping my heel along with the beat because I enjoyed playing so much. I will make sure not to play things too quickly in the future. I used to bang out pieces very fast. So fast that the melody becomes sloppy and unclear. I've now stepped away from that style of playing and I try to play pieces a lot more slowly now to make sure the musical ideas stand out.

I don't think it was to quick at all! Not fast doesn't indicate playing slowly, at least compared to the great harlem pianists it was a moderate tempo. I realy enjoyed the lively touch.

A little quick paced for my taste but sounds great regardless! Also I see you rerecorded your intro jingle with the H1n :D Sound is great!

Thank you! Yeah the H1n was a really good recommendation from you :) At first I was debating whether to keep the old recording of the intro, but after I gave it another listen my ears immediately felt the difference! The old recording has this sharp sound that slightly hurts your ears, while the H1n sound is much softer and nicer.

@@theragtimevirtuoso8534 Yeah, it's far more natural. I've been trying my best to convince most of my piano enthusiast friends to get it if they can afford it because it's frankly the miracle mic.
