I would like to know. I’m in a position right now where I haven’t touched my hair in 2 months. No combing, no covering it up at night, nothing. I have dreads right now, fluff in every section of hair, it’s a literal nightmare. For the past 2 days I have been trying to go through it, picking at it with the end of a rat tail comb and I’m exhausted.

I know women with 4c hair who just resort to keeping it very low so they don’t have to deal with it. It’s an everyday thing and can’t just let it go. I have maybe 3a or b hair. I roll it on rods every night and I use black castor oil. I do not let it get dry. It’s continually growing and I’m 70 years old. Have to give it tender loving care. It’s always beautiful.

4c hair is absolutely beautiful but it is stressful. It’s like saying children are precious and a blessing which they are but denying the tiring process it takes to raise them correctly. Our hair takes a process. I’ve wasted tons of money finding the right products for my hair and still haven’t mastered it yet I basically settled with what I have because I can’t keep running to the beauty supply trying every option. But even then I did all of that just for none of the products I have bought to work on my daughter’s hair who also has 4c hair. Guess what? Loss of money =stress. I have went to professionals and the best they can do is keep my ends cut/trimmed but their products suck too that’s also depressing. The slightest moisture in the air can make our silk press go poof and if you don’t handle your Afro or natural styles daily, it can become easily matted so that’s also stress. Thick 4c hair can feel like a nightmare on wash day. Fight through every kink to the root making sure every nap is combed out is stressful and time consuming. I’ve given up on weaves because my scalp itches like crazy but remaining free too long leads to breakage even when I condition moisturize and oil regularly, can’t use too much heat. I love it I’ll always choose to stay natural even with the struggles because God didn’t make a mistake and I have to show with actions that I love me and my hair so my daughters will do the same and not feel like they have to hide behind wigs and constant heat. So while the battle is worth it because 4c hair is great I understand why many women want to cut their hair. It’s not fair to deny the reality that we have to deal with regarding our texture of hair.

As a black american person of color mixed with 33% European 2% South Asian and 4% Egyptian/Moroccan/Tunisian Arab I've never seen hair like this. I naturally have 2B at the most 2C hair after its soaken wet and dried. The front part of my hair naturally dries bone straight like white or hispanic people's hair the middle front is wavy and the thickest is in the middle at the back where its the waviest is not dense or coarse. I've always said black women should wear their own hair their natural beauty is the most beautiful. But I didn't know some of their hair was this much of a problem. Because black american women have always either straightened their hair with perms hair dryers or curling irons or since mid late 2000s worn wigs or weaves
@elo0o207
@elo0o207 10 ай бұрын
I see now why black people make such a big deal about hair texture and why they rather just throw a wig on or permanently damage their scalp sowing weaves in. And where the word "good" hair is coming from. It looks like this type of hair would be a pain in the ass to deal with. We can see you cant even wash or comb your hair without a huge headache. I see why some probably wouldn't want to deal with it at all to where hygiene is bad when it comes to not washing or combing for months and years. I just get up and easily comb my straight wavy hair everyday. Never thought their were people out there who can't do that even if they tried. I also now see why I get so many stares from everybody not just black people. And why some insecure people with this type of hair would be jealous of some others with hair that's the complete opposite. And treat them differently.

I have straight, light brown hair, was blonde as a kid. In university I had a roommate with similar hair to this woman, but not as dense. She had braids in her hair, and had left them too long, so there was a protein buildup. It took us an entire weekend to un-do her hair, one braid at a time. After that, she would go through a process similar to this every other weekend, with the curling iron so hot it smoked. I have never been more grateful for my boring hair. Before that I hated that I couldn’t curl it, even tried to perm it, which didn’t hold at all. After that, I appreciated what I had. I’m now going grey, and it’s got some wave in it. I can’t say I’m complaining… 😂

Hey Crystal, first let me preface this by saying some stylists wouldn't have touched your client's hair because of the way it looked. Hell, they wouldn't have touched it. But that's what set you apart from them too. You are a true fighter, that's that Cancer spirit and for those who doesn't know what that is; we as Cancers, we nurture, we fight, we protect, and we give love on all levels. Crystal that's exactly what you did for your client. You didn't give anyone room to speak negatively about her and the condition of her hair, thank you. I'm not surprised but many would be. You gave that lady a new life! You could see it before the end. At first she had a serious face, a protective face and then those eyes got bright as she saw that you were winning. Although she had a mask on you could see the HUGE smile on her face and I smiled with her! The end was nothing but a blessing and she was shining. I loved it! ❤

I've been in a similar situation for the past 18 months and have resorted to keeping my hair braided most of the time and cutting it myself with kitchen scissors when I can't bear the length any longer, since I can't really leave the house for a haircut. Just washing it takes more effort and energy than I currently have while recovering. I can't imagine dealing with 4c hair while going through this nightmare, so I feel for you!

I'm really sorry you are suffering from so much and I hope you a speedy recovery. I suffer from chronic back pain, but I'm sure it nothing as close to what you have been dealing with. I hope that maybe I can help.... My daughter by no means has 4c hair. She does have eurocentric texture with more afrocentric curl. If her hair isn't in a bonnet or braided at night. She wakes up a hot mess. Matting over night. I've noticed that braids have massively helped with that. I frequently lose things I struggle with finding her bonnet. I also just recently ordered her a couple zip up silk pillowcases off if Amazon. I'm sure you may have heard this before, if you haven't now now you have (?). 4c hair is absolutely beautiful& I'm sure it's a lot of work. I hope you're able to find some low maintenance options that help you in your hair care& growth. I really hope you the best of luck& healing.

I don't have the same hair type, but I know a lot of us neglect ourselves when we're depressed, busy, unwell. I gave myself a short haircut (short enough not to get fairy knots or huge knots) as I felt depression coming on. Preemptive haircut. 😂 I came out the other end without huge matting, thankfully. This was a couple years ago, and it really helped me preserve my hair health.

I understand the depression all too well. I hope you’re feeling better. I I also suffer with major depression and prior to Covid was gojng through very hard times. Depression kept worsening and I stopped caring for myself, and had no idea my straight fine hair could matt so horribly when I’d given up and wasn’t washing it at all for months! I’ve been so ashamed of myself and I feel so embarrassed and worthless because it DID HAPPEN TO ME! I’ve still got this enormous hunk of hair on the very top of my head nearly matted completely to my scalp. I’ve been tryjng to get it loosened for almost 2 FULL WEEKS now!! I’ve tried everything I’ve read and so many products and it will not budge! I won’t let anyone see me and I’ve not been able to leave the house. it’s that BAD! Not even a cap or hoodie or anything will disguise it now if I could find someone to help me! I’m so desperate right now and it’s nobody’s fault but mine. I hate myself for allowing this to happen. I’ve only told a couple people who don’t understand depression at all. One said I was so lazy I deserved it. Omg I’ve been so upset 😭 and don’t know what else to do. This is the most awful thing I’ve ever done to myself and I’m not young. This is destroying me. I wish the very best for you! ❤

@@Symnsn Oh, darling! First off, here's a hug from a fellow human who cares about you. 🫂 Secondly, it's OK and it's SUPER SUPER common. Your age doesn't matter! I'm a mother of three with a teenager! We're going to remain human beings until we leave the planet, so there's no point in expecting yourself to stop having human weaknesses and tendencies! Try going to a hairdresser and asking for help. If your budget won't allow it, look for a beauty school in your area, and speak with the trainers there. Maybe it could be a special project for one of their students. She could list it on her resume. You may inspire someone there to specialize in these cases (there are MANY) or to volunteer time. YWin, win. Be gentle with yourself. Would you ever be so hard on someone else who's going through a tough time? You deserve a loving parent, and you can be that parent to yourself. Say it in the mirror. Most of these ppl that do hair now aren’t even classified as *_hairdressers_* they really just *_stylists_* bc most of them won’t even shampoo and condition your hair b4 styling. Smh…

Wow, so interesting, and talk about a transformation! Her hair is beautiful and she looks lovely! ❤! I’ve not appreciated my baby fine easily tangled thin hair that was kept in a very short pixie cut as a child as it was so thin - and blonde. Her hair is so so thick and gorgeous after your knowledgable ability to turn into such a beautiful do ! She looks great and happy too. I do like that mine is simple to take a comb through, but need a wig to look as super pretty as hers does now. ❤ I learned something too. You’re a needed person! A great thank you to you! ❤

It's always important to detangle the hair with oil and conditioner before Shampooing so that it doesn't cause even more matting.I learned that a while ago. When you wet tangles, they kind of clinch even more together like you said in the video.

Absolutely gorgeous! I wear braids a lot because it keeps the hair out of my face. That however allows for dreads to develop and they do quickly in my hair. I'm caucasian with Spanish, Swedish & Native American heritage. My hair is crazy enough I've shaved myself bald multiple times so I don't have to deal with it. Watching your videos gives me hope for a self care approach and not always having to rely on a salon. Your work is amazing!! Keep up the good work lady! Bless up.
