They were an explosive dynamic one of a kind couple - unforgettable and never to be duplicated. However, there were three entities in their marriages... Elizabeth, Richard and alcoholism.

Taylor and Burton was the most remarkable romance of the 20th century: glamourous million dollar diamond gifts--but also ribald potty humor; transcontinental luxury but also drunken brawls. In a way, their rocky, passionate marriage was like the disastrous plot of their movie Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf--a sad self fulfilling prophecy: too much booze, to many fights, too much money. But it must have been fun while it lasted as evidenced in Burton's secret diaries (now public) and Taylor's loving comments about her ex. The dramatic pair were certainly mad/passionate about each other---like many great couples in world history they were one another's great happiness--and also one another's great torment.

+Robin Reed He always went back to Elizabeth and a few days before his untimely death in Switzerland he sent Elizabeth a letter in which he begged her to take him back, even though he was married to another Woman at the time (Sally Hay). Elizabeth had this letter buried with her. It was a truly great love story.

+Jade Smith First you do not know that she actually receive a letter. For all you know either the authors made it up or Elizabeth Taylor did. And really his relationship with Ms. Taylor did not last any longer than the one he had with Sybil. And what a great about their relationship it was just boozing, fighting , and adultery.

They look so effortlessly happy in pictures and kept making each other so fatefully unhappy. Those two were the epitome of 'Can't either live with or without you'...and the more I read about them, the less nostalgic I look at their romanticized unhealthy relationship. 😔

They both shortened their life with self-abuse: smoking. alcohol and drugs. Burton more so but women live longer and Liz's mother was 99 when she died. Smoking was real popular during their time.

Welsh jews? Burton had referred to the Welsh as “the Jews of Britain”, a comment on their self-identity as the outsiders of the United Kingdom. [Note: Burton was Welsh] “You’re not Jewish at all,” he told Elizabeth in one of their very public fights, “If there’s any Jew in this family, it’s me!” “I am Jewish,” she answered, “and you can fuck off!”

They seemed like always under substance, smoking, alcohol or pills in drinking. Cant imagine a single day to live like that-chain smoking n alcohol consumption. Liz made till 79 yrs. Remarkable with that life style.

I don't think this situation was nice to Eddie Fisher. He was a great husband for Elizabeth and took care of her kids. By having an experimental serum airshipped to the London hospital, she was brought back to life after having actually died.

When Richard Burton was asked about Liz Taylor's famed beauty, saying that calling her "the most beautiful woman in the world is absolute nonsense. She has wonderful eyes, but she has a double chin and an overdeveloped chest, and she's rather short in the leg

That's what's makes her glam and attractive. She doesn't have to spend money to invest in lashes because she have natural double eyelashes. With the Kardashians have to input and pay for them to look where they now from head to toe

He was pretty critical of her appearance, and it bordered on being unnecessarily mean. I don't understand why this was billed as such a hot romance.

@@tmhwriter he was pretty cynical of himself too... It's called black humour and he was an astonishing actor and also a master in self-deprecation... He told those statements but he absolutely was charmed by her mentally and physically... He was absolute feral about her. Their physical and emotional attraction was BEYON WORDS... 💥💥💥💥 BURNING DESIRE. AND STILL TO THIS DAYS YOU CAN FEEL THAT THROUGH THE TV SCREEN IF YOU WATCH THEIR MOVIES

so if I have this right, Elizabeth stole Eddie Fisher from HIS wife Debbie Reynolds and then left him for Richard Burton?? whom she divorced and remarried 2 times. Recently I read she is releasing love letters he wrote to her. Apparently he was pretty cruel to her.
