You nailed it with the strap- I immediately thought Oris was marketing this size towards women too. I have a 7" wrist which is pretty normal and the dealer couldn't find a strap that fit my wrist. I ended up buying the watch and getting a longer strap from Hirsch.

You get over the strap's taper pretty quickly, it doesn't look bad, it's just that we are used to wider bands in modern watches so it seems odd at first.

Thumbs up on this review. I love the design and well considered selection of font, font placement, cathedral hands, coin-edged bezel and case design that together pulls the pointer date into the 2020s. Color contrast with deerhide strap and medium blue dial works very well; it helps knowing Oris's use of repurposed hides that would otherwise go to waste. It's these details that put heart into the brand.

Background d on Oris is helpful, especially the sustainable deer skin firm. My take away is that it can be a do anything watch, minus deep aquatics, given the appropriate strap or bracelet. Appreciate the perspectives and happy holidays.

It’s an amazing watch indeed. About the crazy taper, give it some time. I have a Divers 65 and the taper goes from 20mm to a crazy narrow 14mm. However, over time I’m used to this small clasp. When I wear other watches, I’ll find their clasps/buckles huge on my 7,25” wrist 🙈

Good morning E, great overview with terrific details. I agree about the strap, it’s not a size I would like, but the deer leather is intriguing. The more I see Oris watches, the more I like them. I’m sorry but I’m without any jokes this week and I am groggy after a poor nights sleep. I woke up startled from a dream where I was sitting next to God and he sneezed and I had no idea what to say. I couldn’t fall back to sleep for quite a while after that. 😉. I guess now I need to see the new Top Gun given the aircraft carrier opening.

I'm lucky to have a few Oris watches including the old pointer date on the reindeer strap oxblood dial and absolutely love it. We get to read the date regardless of the time. The smaller in house designed but more expensive Calibre 403 is also a cracking watch with that inky blue dial and small seconds but uses a more modern hour mark font and pencil hands, it's so readable at a glance on my 7" wrist. I do like the Cervo series but for me it would be the grey dial as that's the only version so far that has the pointer date crescent in red, the other colours it's dial matched so harder to read at a glance. A great honest review Elizabeth and thanks for sharing. Great very well articulated reviews and gets to the point. Thanks again.

I have an Or is big crown pointer in 32mm diameter. It was my 1st foray into collecting watches. When I bought it almost 2 yrs ago off ebay,I had no idea about size or anything about watches. It's too small for my 6.25 wrist, but I still have it as it does have some things I like, like the pointer date and the coin edge bezel. The Volante model you exhibited has a beautiful blue dial(and I like the fact that Oris loves to make use of deer hide that is thrown away) but the only minor thing I'm not crazy about is the threading on the part of the strap(s) close to the watch.....never liked that on any watchband. One other point in their favor is the fact that they're not part of a bought-up larger conglomerate but continue to create watches independently.

Interesting. I love the look of the PD so much, I recently considered buying a 32mm that came up for a couple hundred €s. The look drew me to it but when I realised it was 32mm it slammed on the brakes. Yet I kept going back to look & really worked to justify 32mm on my ~8” wrist, even searching out TGV’s videos on watch sizes & how he shows that real classic icons of Hollywood masculinity all wore smaller watches. Still, didn’t pull the trigger. So what’s your take? Is that price good (from what I saw it was pristine, but markers looked a little shoddily painted; let’s call that “character”, yeah? ;-)? And on your 6.25” wrist, did it wear as small as the dimensions suggest? Cheers.

@@hibernopithecus7500 I think what anyone has to do is to try on a 32mm sized watch to see if they're willing to buy it . I might go for a watch at 36mm,but even though it was how it was done back in the 20th century ,32mmis too small a watch on a regular basis. Cheers!

Bought this model in blue this July 2022 and so in love with the whole package. I'm not a fan of the big bulky bracelets or straps. The tapered straps here is my cup of tea. For example, I prefer the tapering of 20x16mm than something like 20x18mm. Well, exception must be the NATO straps. The strap was one of several reasons why I chose this Oris over the seaweed green Seamaster which I reserved. I went to the AD after the call to pick up my SM but I came out with this Oris Pointer Date Cervo Volante with big smile instead. Cheers to all the small wrists out there. We can enjoy something those Panerai's lovers won't consider in their collections.

Great review and pretty much sealed the deal for me purchasing one. Each to their own but it sounds to me like the men you have spoken to have the classic case of wrist dysmorphia where the prevailing social norm has lead them to believe that THEY are to masculine and that their HUGE 7 inch wrist could not possibly accommodate what Elvis, Steve McQueen, Carry Grant and of course myself wear daily! I jest of course but it is always interesting to witness the behavioural patterns of people who are so influenced by current trends. 38mm is bloody massive even on a rugby players wrist! 33mm to 38mm is fine for a man and so often people put up pics of their 40mm saying how perfect it fits but with the lugs hanging off either side of their wrist.

Thanks for reviewing this, it is refreshing to get a women's perspective on mechanical watches as it seems to be typically male dominated. One suggestion if I may make is to perhaps keep the camera focused on the watch when talking about details with close up shots. I had to pause the video several times to observe details. Nice work!

I absolutely love the dials on these, and the straps are great. They are a bit smaller than I typically prefer, but they're great for small to medium wrists as you said. It looks like a great unisex watch. I'm hit or miss on 38mm outside of dress watches. The Khaki Field mechanical on strap wore too small for me, but the SPB155 Alpinst was a great compact sport watch on wrist. Both are 38mm, but definitely do not wear the same. It's not always about the numbers. I also love the look of the 40mm gray-blue Big Pilot Pointer Date on bracelet, which will probably be the perfect size for me. I happen to be going to an AD that carries Oris tomorrow, so I may need to try one one.

@@elizabeth_grant I tried on the green Cervo Volante model, as well as the blue/gray 40mm version (on strap, they didn't have the bracelet version). The Cervo Volante is absolutely beautiful as expected. While I could wear it, it did look a bit small to me with my 7-1/4" wrist (and 6'7" height). The 40mm version seemed to be the perfect balance for me. I also finally got to try on a bunch of Doxa, even more Grand Seikos (had tried some on before), Zodiac, IWC, Omegas, and even some Seiko Prospex/high end Seiko divers (~$4K). It was definitely a great day for trying on watches. I was able to get rid of a bunch of watches on my luxury watch purchase list for my birthday this year, which is good. There is no substitute for actually getting watches on the wrist.

Great review. I love this particular model with that beautiful shade of blue, I wish it were available in 40mm as it would look a little too dainty on my wrist. The other thing I personally would have loved to see would have been a red date pointer as opposed to the blue. That one extra little pop of colour would have looked great.

Just received this watch (grey dial) from my wife today! Completely agree with almost all your points. With a 6.5” wrist, this Oris fits extremely well on my wrist! ❤️ Love the vintage vibes of the late 30s dial design, the heavily domed sapphire crystal, and the coin edge bezel! It also helps that it’s a pilot’s watch from a bygone era; being a pilot myself, I can appreciate that fact even more. 🤣 As for the heavy taper of the strap, I can’t say it bugs me. Much of that stems for my love of vintage styled watches; I own a Seamaster 1948, Cartier Tank, and Rolex 36mm Oyster, so that dramatic taper just fits into my collection. ❤️ Besides, I just won’t be seeing that part of the watch much when worn. But I can see where it might be an issue for those with larger wrists! Love your material. Will sub once I post this. 👍
