Frank Church is the last frontier in the US

While you can find elk anywhere in that country, your odds are going to be better in the rut if you follow the established trails to the ridge line (~8000’) and then looking into the tops of the canyons. They animals will tend to traverse from one canyon to the next high up during that time of the year. Later in the season they’ll get pushed down by weather but if they are bugling, they are going to be up higher. And many of the heads of those canyons will have springs so your water situation is solved. Make no mistake. If you actually get one you will get to experience fatigue like no other as you carry it out in multiple trips to the river.

Few people realize how hard it is to hunt this country and when they get their they don't last and just go home

Is everyone’s infatuation with the Frank Church as a hunting destination over yet?? People, this is not the place If you’re looking to kill a deer or elk. Great landscape, very few animals.
