I personally would run Podium Ti inserts and collars for either, so that is where I prefer RIP TKOs. Best combo of durability and GPI of any arrow on the market. Spine aligned and coating are just pluses. That being said, if Easton comes out with a Sonic 5mm that is comparable GPI with the made in the USA stamp, they could steal a large share of the 5mm market back from other manufacturers like Victory.

I've shot both these arrows, and the TKO Elite is a stronger, better arrow in my opinion. The TKO will out penetrate the Match grade Axis. Dont get me wrong you cant go wrong with either arrow but the Axis has the HIT insert and just like the Easton Injection arrows if you shoot alot overr time the Axis will develope small stress cracks on the end of the arrow inless you run the RPS insert which will mean you got to run the Deep 6 threads or as you stated some sort of outsert. As far as durability, the TKO is the stronger, more durable arrow hands down. Ive been shooting the TKO Elite arrows for 3 years now and have yet to have a single outsert pull off or had any problems with these arrows or their components as long as they are properly prepped and assembled.......Great videos, just sharing my opinion and personal expierances.

Both are fantastic. I shoot the Victory VAP SS with custom inserts. The VAP inserts that come with with the shafts are 50 grain aluminum; not great. But, there are tons of options our there by Ethics Archery, Podium, etc. These shafts are expensive. Thanks Dan another vid.

So one thing I noticed between the axis and rip is the blood on the arrow shaft after the shot. With the ceramic coating i had very little blood on the shafts on the 2 deer i killed this year, but the axis was covered in blood on the 2 i harvested last year. I also used bohning heat vanes and tac vanes this year with similar results with not much blood sticking to them, but softer material like max stealth showed more blood. All 4 shots were through the triangle of death, have you noticed this?

One thing to consider on whitetail is how fast they can “jump the string” at the sound of the arrow coming at them. Which in reality they don’t jump, they drop, tremendously and get the heck out of dodge. The body size on whitetail is a lot smaller than elk as well so you’ll have a lot less room for error. I think the 440 gr arrow you shoot elk with will be just as deadly on the whitetail and will be a little flatter shooting. Just my experience on whitetail arrow weights and seeing how much they move while the arrow is in flight. Great Video, Awesome content, keep ‘em coming. Enjoy watching your channel Dan.

@@williedunn-rj6nq My current arrow weight is 476gr and shooting 280fps. Haven’t missed a critter yet. They still drop lower when they hear the arrow coming. I’ll be playing with a lighter weight arrow next year, 410-440gr just to get a flatter trajectory out at further distances. A.B.T.👍🏻 Heavier arrows absorb more of the energy of the bow than lighter arrows do, hence why the Bow is quieter at the shot with heavier arrows, not the arrow while in flight. The noise of the arrow comes from arrow diameter, fletching material, size and shape as well as broad head type, shape material and design.

I am shooting the VAP's this year. What I started doing, was to shoot the standard inserts from Victory for practice and Podiums titanium ones for hunting. since they are the same weight, it makes it so I don't have to spend a ton on my practice arrows to get everything sighted in and if I bend the insert I can just re-hotmelt a new one in. For hunting its 100% the titanium insert only. Super glad MFJJ makes his inserts for the 4mm's now!

Always tinker that’s what they say right? Now I’m stuck between the rip to and gap tko. Anyone have any advice. I need a 300 spine and the rip is lighter there. But what I’m mainly worried about is what insert I should use on which one. I’d like to be able to get out to 100 yards when I practice. Will be shooting 80lbs and 28.5 inch draw. The rip tko have been great for me. My arrows are 475. I’m using the stock inserts that come with them. 5 whitetail with them this year and they have been holding up well. Broke one after passing through 3 deer. Snapped a few inches from fletching because I shot him in the shoulder quarrying to. Broke a second one on a spine shot that passed through the shoulder blade first. It sheared off 8” up the shaft due to the shoulder. Shot a doe a few nights ago and broke both her front legs just above the knuckles. Arrow perfectly fine even though I didn’t get a pass through. This same arrow has passed through a buck earlier in the season. Obviously I would prefer to avoid bone, but considering my failure to do so, I can say anecdotally they have been durable with the stock 50g half out inserts that come with the fletched arrows.

I would love to run a 475-500 grain arrow bc all i hunt is white tail and I’m not taking far shots but with my bows ibo the calculator says I’d only be pushing 230fps whereas someone with a bow pushing 350 IBO would be pushing 270. Should i build a lighter arrow in the 425 range and get the faster speed or build one in the heavier range for white tail?

the victory's are harder to get in Canada and quite a bit more expensive. I wanted a slightly lighter arrow, but ended up with the axis 340 spine 28" carbon to carbon, easton knocks, 4 bohning heat vanes, standard HIT insert, 125 grain point. came in at 444 grains, and about 14% FOC. i could switch to a 3 fletch blazer vane and lose 6 grains off the back, but the heats are stiffer and quieter i think.

For anyone worried about the price for Victory RIP TKOs. You can also get the Victory RIPs. The price point is awesome (about 40-$50 difference per dozen). Same dimensions and weight to the TKO counterpart. Nano coating, spine aligned, and only thing missing is that fancy "woven" look. I use the RIPs for off season reps and start moving towards my TKOs closer to hunt time. Easton Axis 5mm are also solid arrows. Mahalos Dan again for an awesome upload. so rip tko vs axis 5mm. Rip tko all day because they pull out of every target 10x easier. And you cant compare rip tko/axis 5mm vs easton axis long range 4mm without considering victory vap tko 4mm. Factory insert/outsert/halfout for victory or easton are equal in my eyes. Ppl say the rip tko halfout are great and some say they suck and this goes for the easton hit insert just as well.

I'm wondering why anyone would choose the axis over other lighter and just as durable options. Lighter gpi is an all around positive given similar durability. So why not put the weight where you want it? The regular RIPs come with pretty decent steel inserts. Add an aluminum footer and you have one hell of a durable arrow.

in my testing the rips have been more durable and tune a lot easier, my axis were throwing wildly different paper tears arrow to arrow even after playing with knocks. Hard to get away from the rip tko's. edit on components: I'm throwing away anything coming with any arrow from the factory. every manufacturer. Ethics or iron wills only for me.

Honestly I don't think there will be any noticeable real-world difference in penetration and "hitting harder" with a 35 grain difference. If you jumped up 100 grains, maybe, MAYBE you'd notice a difference on an animal, but 35 grains is practically nothing. I'd opt for the 420-440 grain option over the 470+ for deer.

I went with the Easton sonics. 6mm yes but brass inserts the sit flush against the shaft, thicker walls, and very affordable especially their match grade. I use their normal grade for practice so if I break one no big deal. So far loving them and they tuned up great on the v3x, 75lb, 30 inch draw. I really like my Victory RIP TKO Gamer 300s. When I bought my first newer bow after 15 years of using a PSE from 2006-2021, I decided to switch to a new arrow for my new bow. After high praises from you and some other experienced hunters I went with the value packed Victory ✌🏻 arrows. The Easton Axis 5mm is and was high on my list. I appreciate that they are made in the USA 🇺🇸. The biggest difference to me between these two outside of the nano coating is the 2 GPI difference in 300 spine arrows. 10.7 Axis vs 8.8 RIP TKO. I should upgrade the insert/outsert for next year and I would like to get heavier in the broadhead than the standard 100s, a heavier sturdier sharp fixed blade is going to last longer and have better terminal performance on game in most situations. The broadhead is the killing part of the arrow. So the lighter GPI arrow affords me to do that without going too far out of the balanced bell 🔔 curve for my arrows. I currently only hunt whitetail deer 🦌 and I am hoping in the near future to try archery elk, mule deer 🦌, pronghorn and black bear 🐻. My current arrow weight is 476 grain with 100 grain G5 Montec M3s and a lighted nock. 29.5 inch draw at 65 lbs. They fly well to 40, but I have yet to stretch the legs on my setup and skill set but want to this spring and summer 💪🏻😎🏹

Furthest was a 42 yd pass through! The Easton axis long range does not have a seam! You don’t have to nock tune them! My total arrow weighs 415grains! I shoot blazers on a helical! 29” 68 lbs 289fps

I bought 6 Easton axis 5mm 300gr arrows about 5 months ago cost me about $117 not including fletching, and cutting and now that being said. I’ve had a horrible time. First time I buy high-quality? I get problems. The inserts sink in to where I can get field tips to work but not broadheads. Bow Shop fixed it once. Now they said if they try to fix it again it’ll ruin arrows. Problem. 2 and the most irritating. I’ve Went back like six or so. Time’s to get fletching redone because they keep falling off. I’ve asked if they could strip them completely off and see if they could get any extra residue or carbon off. But it doesn’t seem. To happen. I’m thinking about buying my own jig and starting to do it myself, I’ve spent a butt load of money. And I’m probably just going to scrap those arrows. Down the drain I probably have 300+ with gas

Learn to do everything yourself if you are even remotely mechanically inclined... it will pay off ten fold in a year or two, and you will realize that WAY too many shops don't know enough to be working on peoples gear. I understand they cant all hire the top archers in the country and they need to sell and work on peoples bows.... so I understand WHY some shops are lacking in their knowledge and they have to do the best they can with who they have... I guess I just think more people should be willing to learn how to do things themselves. The archery world in general has a lot of horrible information and it took me a good 4 years of doing my own work before I realized how much the information out there is lacking. The facebook groups they have on bow tuning and stuff are pretty bad too. Honestly, it may sound kinda crappy, but there are too many hunters these days that have been shooting once a week for a couple years that think they know everything to the point of being argumentative and arrogant. I am glad to see archery growing and the more people the better... When it comes to learning about bows and equipment, listen to the target guys that have been shooting for many years. Those are the guys that are shooting 200 arrows a day and working on their equipment constantly. There are plenty of long time hunters that know there stuff too, such as mfjj... he gives pretty solid information. If you get yourself a bow press, arrow saw, fletching jig and some hand tools... it will pay for itself in no time if you are heavily into archery. No need to drive anywhere and pay someone... the other bonus is you will end up with a bow that is set up and tuned better than 90% of people of there that rely on shops. Good luck man... dont be afraid to do the work yourself... jump in, make mistakes, learn from them, and in time you will be better than any shop tech around you.

My shop said they are seeing variance and quality control issues with the RIPs lately. Now, I end up cutting 3-3.5 inches off the end to get to my arrow length. Can you comment on what you have seen as well as the durability?

If anyone is wondering what the toughest 4mm shaft out there is, should look no further than the black eagle deep impacts they are a heavier GPI but they're literally almost impossible to break!. I can 100% garuntee they will be the toughest arrow you've ever shot.

I think victory just makes a more rugged arrow. I’ve managed to break any and everything I’ve shot from Easton. Victory for the win in my opinion. I vote you do a durability test Easton 4 and 5 mm VS victory 4 and 5 mm. I’d take the TKO and the VAP 100% .

I doubt this . I have axis ive been shooting for 10 years and tbey still spin straight as any elite arrow i can buy. Id like to try the tko, looks pretty awesome and ive shot the vaps and i use xv’s for 3d so i know victory is good. Just would never bet against the axis arrows

Interesting video. FWIW, I shot the Axis since the inception up until about 2 years ago. I wanted a lighter GPI so, after a lot of spending and testing I wound up with the RIP TKO. Just a couple of months ago I decided to go back to a standard diameter arrow and bought some VF TKO. In my experience, even with the "Elite" Victory's, I've had to nock tune the hell out of these. Don't remember ever needing to do that with the Axis. That spine align is their version the Carbon Express spine B.S. that's all it is. BS. Other than all that, Victory is a great arrow.

Yep. You just helped me decide. Going with the Easton Axis 5mm. For 2 reasons that you brought up. Made in the US and better components. Even though they don't come spine aligned like the TKO's. Neither were the Gold Tip's I shoot now. Thanks for doing this video.

I shot the axis and then switched to the RIP TKO, however I put the Brass HIT insert into the RIP TKOs. Ultimately saved me 50 grains in carbon which allowed for more FOC and tighter pin gaps. Actually shot a 3.5 year old midwest whitetail with the RIPs tipped with Iron Will Wide 125g which blew through both scapulas and nicked the spine (high shot).

@cflaherty85 Very cool. I'm right at 15% FOC with my Gold Tip Hunter XT's tipped with Stinger Buzzcut 125gr 4 blades. I figured if I can get the same with a 5mm, I'd have a pretty flat shooting arrow. I do want to try those Iron Will Wides though.

@papaschuette I have the 125gr wide, which are vented by design. I'd recommend getting a non vented head as the vented are extremely loud in flight. 150g wide is solid or any of the double bevel or single bevels are solid. Get a stay sharp guide and pretty simple to ReSharpen and keep them oiled to prevent patina.

@cflaherty85 I appreciate you bringing up that the 125's are vented. Just means I'm gonna have to bump up to the 150gr single bevel lefts. Definitely don't need any extra noise. I wonder why they made the 125's vented like that?

Man, I’m really starting to notice where the sponsor money is coming from. “This arrow over here is better by every metric, but I’m choosing the other one” 🤦🏼‍♂️😂 And an Axis arrow is not woven. Those two carbons are not even close to the same. I also found it interesting that No mention was made about the inserts that come standard with the Victory shafts. It’s of notable value IMO.

Im of the opinion that super sharp broadheads cut clean, wounds seal up, dull broadheads make cuts that are more rigid, dont seal back up as easily and are likely to bleed more. If you dont have penetration issues maybe experiment with a duller broadhead.
