Fun fact: Kyle Hill made a debunking video about the thumbs up at the bombs thing. Turns out that they're *not* dead people walking, that they *can* save themselves if they run away, *and* that even if the cloud is bigger than your thumb you *can* still be safe. In fact, depending on the wind and other conditions, you might be safe even if you're *closer* than that.

On the one hand, I'm fairly sure that the thumbs up guide was meant as more a general guideline than a hard rule, but on the other hand I'm pretty sure that even if it HAD been true at one point the development of bigger bombs would have pretty well tanked it only a few design generations in.

There are multiple games, each with its own stand-alone story. Quality varies, but they're generally very good. The Amazon series is set AFTER all the games to date and is its own original story, so it has something new to offer everyone whether they've played the games or not... and if you DO go play the games, each of them will have story elements you've never run into before.

"It looks heavy" It's power armor. It's a whole articulated hydraulic framework that carries its own weight while amplifying the force applied by your own muscles. It IS heavy, but it's not making you carry it. Instead, it's strong enough to carry YOU as well as itself.

@15:15 Most characters are new and the show is just playing in the Fallout universe with a new story, not a story from one of the games (some story elements from the games have been used) Only in the last episode you will see some characters that also played a role in one of the games.

@@barbzthings Not sure if I would suggest it. While the games are not a direct spoiler, some stuff about the show are less surprising, if you know the games. On the other hand, only if you know the games you will understand some eastereggs. Hard to give a suggestion here. But in the end they have done a great job in making the show work for people who do know the games and those who don't.

"so this is futuristic but retro". Exactly retro futurism. An idea of what people in the 1950s might think the future looks like given their understanding of the world. No internet, no iphones but nuclear powered everything to include robots and cars.

Lucy is not a character from the game. In fact nothing from the show happened in any game. As you said it is more a completely new story and characters set in the universe created by the games. Which is honestly pretty cool. It means it is new even for those of us who played every game.

@caffeinedelusions
@caffeinedelusions Ай бұрын
You nailed it with 'retrofuturism'. What you're seeing in that first scene is the future of an alternate timeline that split somewhere around the end of World War 2. It's the year 2077, a future as imagined by the people of the 1950s and 60s... a world of cheap nuclear power, domestic service robots, miracle medicines, and a cold war that's been gradually building up to the boiling point of actual military conflict with advanced power armor for limited resources over the course of a hundred years... and even with the advanced electronics like the robots, there's not a microprocessor in sight. The supercomputers are running in vacuum tubes and transistors. And THEN the bombs drop and we jump forward 219 years.

Just wanted to say I enjoyed the reaction. Also just to help out a bit. Here's the most basic non-spoiler summary I could make of this universe if you're curious enough about it. . . . . . Fallout takes place in a separate timeline from the real world timeline. Though up until WW2, it was pretty much the same historically. Where it splits is after WW2 when the first bombs were dropped. As this civilization ended up using atomic engery also as a means of nearly limtless enegry. That and keeping the 1950s asthetic along with a huge advancement leap of technology that we only have a bit of in our current IRL year of 2024. Anyways a lot of stuff happens in between. Then the year the bombs dropped in the beginning of the episode is in the year 2077, October 23rd on a Saturday. Also cool tidbit I believe is true. But apprently the bombs used by 2077 are considere Low-Yeild nukes. Meaning they are still technically nukes, but they have much less nuclear radiation used in them. So theoretically if one was far enough away and not in ground zero. They could survive and barley be effected. Again if anyone knows of this better then me of if its even true. Then tell me. Anyways again this was the most basic way I could at least help you understand a bit more of this world. I hope you enjoy the rest of it though. I sure did when I watched it. Anyway have a good one! 🙂

Sometimes you just have to dispel your reality beliefs because in shows like this it's really just "video game logic."
@jgooner894
@jgooner894 Ай бұрын
What’s that in reference to?
@Rippersauc3
@Rippersauc3 Ай бұрын
@@jgooner894 It's just video game logic in general. For example in real life if you got stabbed and you're bleeding you wouldn't grab a shot and stab it into the wound to inject medicine. You either sterilize the wound or cover it up to stop the bleeding. But in the world of Fallout people just stab themselves with something called a stimpak and for some reason it heals all their wounds. Even crippled limbs lol
@blanketwodahs6741
@blanketwodahs6741 Ай бұрын
I think that full acceptance of "video game logic" makes this show so much better than haters are interpreting. It really explains away a lot of "issues" some would have. A lot of the issues I had initially don't bother me at all now .. ie, if the ghoul has been "in game" for 219 years, it completely justifies how OP he is. I am sure he has every perk in "the game".
@jgooner894
@jgooner894 Ай бұрын
@@Rippersauc3 Is that them just leaving out the blanks though in some of the design from generations back? As video games have gotten more detailed those blanks have been increasingly filled in. Is there any lore on stimpaks across the games anywhere?
@vashsunglasses
@vashsunglasses Ай бұрын
@@jgooner894 What lore? It's futuristic technology that stimulates wound healing. Is it that far fetched that people in an alternate timeline that's ahead of us could have developed better medicine than us? We don't need technobabble to "explain" it.

yes the games are good and a vary immersive world if you are the type to read all the notes and the like. also vary good story telling with the settings no words needed. I.E. the family around the table in episode 2. fallout 1 and 2 = top down RPGs falloutdc 3, new vagus, and 4 = FPS with some RPG aspects (less as time goes on) fallout 76 = like 4, but with MMO like aspects. they have added much story that was missing at launch. in time line it is a prequel.

Now you are young, to those of us growing up during The Cold War that intro is what we feared would happen- every day. But we lived our lives. When I teach my The History of The Cold War classes, I always start by showing them a five minute video of nuclear explosions with eerie music, to make your generation understand what it all was- and what you will have to get used to again with Putoloni's sabre-rattling (though he is too much of a coward to do it). During the Cold War, the USSR was planning to open the war by dropping 600+ merely on my little Denmark. The game is set in an alternative timeline, where the transistor was never invented, so everything used vacuum-tubes like early computers. And thus the timeline starts diverging from ours in the year after WW2, and progress is generally much slower. But there is also no Cuban Missile Crisis, Long Island, etc, and no reckoning with its past, so the US carries on in a sort of Truman-Eisenhower Superamerica with nuclear powered cars, etc. But in the 21st century fossil fuels and other resources starts running out, and The Resource Wars starts; where Europe, Africa and The Middle East is torn apart, and China invades Alaska to get the last remaining oil resource on the planet. And in 2077... Boom. And oh yea, the US turns authoritarian semi-Fascist, a bit like Starship Troopers. The Brotherhood of Steel is the remnants of the US Army turned Nazi. Anyway, think of the game and series as set in a sort of retro-futuriatic post apocalypse, IE a future as imagined in the fifties, but then add a nuclear exchange of superpowers. In the games you find all those tragic and dark stories as you explore the Wasteland, the series show them, but both do a very good job of what good SciFi should; holding up a dark mirror to humanity- and with Fallout it is really dark. Also, you have incredibly beautiful eyes.

the thumbs up i not factually correct though ;) you can be way closer. death zone for a small nuke can be as little as 4km radius, and they are on the hills, the city is likely farther than that. and yes, the initial blast she was actually looking at would've likely blinded her.

I did see that she is fairly new to the reaction scene, so maybe the channel will get better. I would point you in the direction of some fine reactions, that don't chop things up so much - but they aren't hard to find.
