Ella's Song by Bernice Johnson Reagon, Originally recorded by Sweet Honey In The Rock.
“Until the killing of black men, black mothers’ sons, is as important as the killing of white men, white mothers’ sons, we who believe in freedom cannot rest.”
The words and lyrics of “Ella’s Song” come to the Resistance Revival Chorus from a long line of freedom fighters. This rallying anthem quoting the indelible words of civil rights leader Ella Baker was written by Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, one of the original SNCC Freedom Singers who later formed the a cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock - one of our greatest inspirations in breathing joy and song into the resistance.
We are sharing this music video on this historic #Juneteenth to urge you to keep your foot on the gas in this crucial moment - because we who believe in freedom cannot rest until it comes.

So proud of my daughter Susan @redberetproductions for her work on this video. She feels such a strong connection to the RRC and their message. I think she honored the photos the RRC provided and the song’s words well in the video. Very powerful.

The first sweet honey in the rock album, this song is on was “We All... Everyone Of Us” (1983) which is Track #11, which is also On 2 compilation albums sweet honey has made “Breaths” (1988) which is Track #2, and “ Selection 1976-1988” (1997) which is Track #1, and Also on a live album called “Alive In Australia” (2002) and it’s Track #2

Awesome arrangement, performance, and video! Thank you for this. Our group just released a recording of Ella's Song too (we hadn't seen yours before we recorded it!). I really like the arrangement and energy, so kudos to Abena Koomson-Davis for a job well done!
