She did say in one interview that after doing an American accent on Grey’s for more than 10 years (i think correct me) some of it stuck overtime.

Her accent never slipped once in Grey's which is pretty impressive given that Martin Henderson kept slipping into his kiwi accent constantly, and Kevin McKidd wasn't much better. I found Owen to be the most annoying character on the show.

Wouldn’t that make her authentic? The fact that she’s lost some of her heavy accent living in America and acting for a decade without an accent would naturally fade any accent. That’s pretty true to most people.
