Keep in mind he is the only real water DPS in the game right now. So on any content with a water wekness, he is going to perform better than pretty much anyone else. That includes the Edward boss battle as well, of course. (The only other DPS he is weak to is Elyar.) Also, from my undertanding of the game's mechanics, whenever an enemy gets an elemental shield, they become weak against that elemental weakness as well. (So... If an enemy gains a fire shield, they become weak to water.) This makes Ellen a fantastic secondary DPS for any Edward mains out there. (And, as a bonus, he makes grinding for Edward's best set much easier.) His signature weapon also seems really strong, especially when compared to the f2p acessible options. (The 5* greatsword in the shop, in particular, really sucks. That said... I haven't really crunched his numbers to know how he compared to other DPS characters, in terms of raw damage. Also, at least for now, the water element is still lacking a real DPS set, so I'm not sure what set works better on him. But his animations do look pretty cool, and he feels to good to play, so... I'm glad I picked him up. (Someone else already pointed this, but he kinda feels like a water Edward.)

The only downside to Saeya is her short attack range, which Ellen can compensate for that. It would be great if only Saeya had the attack range of Marthel or Leon.

There are a lot of Story Stages that need water Damage. So I think it's worth to pull him. Ellen with Saeya, it's Water Duo that cover Dps and Semi Healer&Tank in the team. I've got f*ck with 50/50. got Dupe for Sansar. But I'll pull him anyway. But if the next banner is Earth Dps. Well I'll skip him and go for Earth Dps.

I'm sorry but he is not a solid character. I don't want to downgrade him, just inform people who summon for meta or even good characters. He is a meh/mid at best character and probably needs a buff (that he could have before his banner's end). He even isn't at the same level than Edward for fire element. You just need to see her numbers to understand even for a sword user he is underwhelming. One fact was true. Saeya is more than enough for water compared to him because he is not so much higher damage wise than Saeya who isn't a dps to begin with and can do so many things too.

I'd honestly recommend to skip Ellen; yes he's a water DPS and that may come in handy (right now) but otherwise doesn't provide anything interesting and will be outshadowed by literal every other character that will follow up. It's just a "appear and forget"-type of situation. I will say however that his Greatsword-weapon is worth pulling for, even though it's "just" a generally good weapon for upcoming GS-users.

I just built up Saeya right before the announcement, so easy skip lol. Even if he is a stronger DPS, resources are so tight that I can't afford to build him.

I love him. Just a thought, but Ellen is a girl pretending to be a boy for some reason, right? Ok, to start, I'm saying this, the trial isn't a fair place to base criticism or a fair judgment. Also, you compared the damage of the lastest archer to a swordsman. Archers are almost always for the most part to be the strongest characters in the game, especially great bow users. Honestly, they have to be to off set their lack of defense. Swordsman are up close grinders. So they lose some attack to focus on their defense. The True dps comparison for Ellen character wise is Edward. However, I don't have him. I do have Saeya. To be honest, damage wise, there is no comparison between them. Ellen is superior, and all the damage building in the world won't ever make her compare. Also, the idea of getting by doesn't exist in this game. You truly need the proper character type for the proper job. To get by with a water healer in base content may be passable, I'll admit. However, this game focuses on providing content that pushes characters and gamers to their limits. Just getting by is just not a strategy for the long run. Also, this is a game based off team work and just on my playing with Ellen today using him to make enemies in both pvp and pve weak advantage to water then switching to Sarka is an extremely deadly combo. Now, if you don't like character, definitely don't pull them. For me, Ellen was a must pull if you have Sarka.

The Problem i have with Ellen: He is not a Waifu like Nec so i skip him and save for Nec. My Nayan is good as Water Unit and set in my Team.
