U R gold, lady...TRULY!! I wish I could find more bloggers/dyers like U online: not skipping steps while filming using heavy editing, pretending that the process to complete the project is going to be an easy one, and that you have never made mistakes.WOW! I feel that I have been lifted to another level of performance!! I am pretty sure that the IOD's sisters would be pleased with what U shared with us on this video. Great learning ( eye opener!) experience. THAAAAAAANK YOU!

Thank you for the video! I did try a practice board for the Moroccan paint inlay and it didn't turn out well. Im going to try the damp cloth instead of misting with water. That makes sense to me that it would really get the inlay to adhere. My question is, what do you do about the wrinkles in the paper?

First , love the hat Eddie would totally approve! Thanks so much for another great tutorial, Lynne. I have this inlay and have promised myself to. O longer be afraid to take it out of the package and get it on the piece I have waiting for it. Once again you work all the kinks out in advance and share them with us so we don’t have to. Would using a water based topcoat be okay in the spray bottle? If not, what is a polycrylic, I have never used one before? Thanks again 😍
@ellenjgoods
@ellenjgoods 2 жыл бұрын
The hat! 😂 So, most water based topcoats ( like Fusion Toughcoat, DIY BigTop, General Finishes Flat out ) are polycrylic. They are water soluble . I hope you give the inlays a go. They are a very exciting option for decor!

Your project turned out well and you've provided a nice tutorial. The DIY brand of paint (clay based) does not perform well for me. Too many clumps. Working dry time too fast. Paint does not lay down nicely. I've also experienced issues with one layer and color of DIY pulling away from another layer when using rub-on transfers (yes, dry time was more than adequate...at least 24-36 hours between coats). Too many issues for the expense and poor end-result.

Hi Ellen, thanks for sharing! I do have a question. What would happen if you just used a polycrylic over the inlay and skipped the water/poly spray step? Do you think the pigment would move?
@ellenjgoods
@ellenjgoods 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The pigments are water soluble so they would definitely smudge. I know some people x have been able to apply a quick coat in one direction with some success, but I do think the mist application is one easy step that could prevent issues with pigment movement.
@nadineconnors2008
@nadineconnors2008 2 жыл бұрын
I did a light coat of a spray fixative after letting the inlays dry for a few days (a set of coasters). I let the fixative dry overnight. Even after that there was some slight movement of the pigment when I went to apply the poly. Next time I'll try 2 coats of your water/poly combo. Your project came out beautiful despite the issue with the inlays.

Hi Ellen! I made a faux vintage sign board with IOD’s Gregory’s Seed Catalogue paint inlay and IOD Painterly Florals. I used Krylon Low Odor Clear Finish spray in several light coats. It stopped the paint from moving and sealed it enough to add a clear top coat.
