Apple in iOS 13 added a Voice Control feature as an Accessibility option designed for those who need to use their iPhones and iPads without their hands. It allows for complete control of the operating system using voice commands.
Although Voice Control is designed for people who need an alternative to physical control, it can be helpful for those who can use their devices with their hands. This video will give you the chance to see Voice Control in action, learn how to enable it and what it can do.

I love using voice control on my phone I use it all the time and I love it it comes in handy! I do everything with the voice commands

Thank you Ellen, just getting to grips with dictation on I-pad pro max, it is working fairly well with my voice and not may spelling mistakes, but it does not (yet) like the commands I give for punctuation!

Can you give us an example of how to insert address to a form that you are completing?

Nina, You would add a custom command as shown in the video. Put your cursor in the field and speak the command. Hope that helps. If not let me know.

@@EllensTipsForiOS When you say put your cursor in the Field, what command do you say? Or would you use the “show numbers“ feature? As often I cannot see numbers for all the fields, which makes it so hard to do by voice. Thank you for your wonderful video! I’ve subscribed. :)

@@serinadelmar6012 Hi Serina, if you are setting up a custom command you'll have to use your finger to place the cursor inside the text area.Once the command is created you should be fine. If you look at the expample of creating a new note. When you say "Tap New Note" the cursor is already in that area and you can begin speaking. If I haven't answered your question let me know.

I found this very helpful. I am trying to assist my friend to find a book app that will turn pages of a book with voice control. S h e wants to read books not listen to them. I haven't found one, but perhaps the new ipad 13? Can you suggest? She has no use of hands so is voice dependent.

Hi Mary thanks for watching. This can be done using a custom gesture inside of voice control. I just tested it. Go to Settings>Accessibility >Voice Control. Toggle on Voice Control now tap customize commands. Choose Custom. Type in a phrase such as turn page. Tap on Action. I used a swipe action along the bottom area like you would to turn a page. Then choose the application, I used the books app. Once the book was open I said the phrase “turn page” and the page was turned. Hope that helps.

Wow didn’t know this setting existed. What would be the difference between voice control and Siri?

Siri requires an active Internet connection because it sends some of your commands to Apple's servers where they are translated and then acted upon. Voice Control, on the other hand, is designed for the basic use in devices without an Internet connection. Hope that helps Marc.

Thank you for your video i use voice control because it's painful to touch screen with my fingers. Apple offers a accessibility hotline Open 24 seven which you should consider informing people about. It's helpful however unfortunate that many dedicated representatives don't really use this Voice control which is sad. Further you serve the Apple TV remote is very helpful but limited as it does not provide panning up or down capability. They really didn't follow-through by making it really good. Dictation is very good but needs work as usability could be improved. And finally using a mouse with full voice control is still not available which is extremely disappointing as I can't use a keyboard or a mouse with my hands. Very disappointing that the nuances Voice control are still in the dark ages it's as if the people designing it really don't take much interest and the users that ultimately depend on it. But Apple does a better job than Microsoft with on screen voice control but both companies fail miserably with mouse control.
