Because most of those who say that Joel is weak is because they compare him to the Joel in the game. Besides that they are the typical edgy kid with a mind totally dissociated from reality "If I were him I would have ground the boy with my fists, reloaded my weapon in slow motion, shoot him with a 360 no scope, and then I would eat the head of an infected to celebrate my victory"

Oh my, all those keyboard warriors complaining how "weak" Joel was and how much this scene sucks compared to the game. Guess what, it is quite hard to kill a real person in real life. And if you don't get the point why somebody begs for mercy and why somebody else hesitates killing another human who's wounded and lying on the ground, I really do pity you.

That’s also the point with the show, Joel is weaker in the show than he is in the game he’s 56 in the show 52 in the game. His age provides a lot more of an advanced dynamic where Ellie does a lot more for him if that makes sense

If anything you would be weaker at 56 in the apocalypse compared to in normal times. There is a reason why humans live longer now compared to before. Imagine all the hardship Joel went through. There is no way his body would still be the same compared to if he aged in normal times. @@numbron803

They very briefly address that point in the show itself, when Joel finds his brother and explains to Tommy why he thinks it best that he takes Ellie to the Fireflies the rest of the way. He talks about how this kid overpowers him and how he didn't hear him coming in time and that 5 years ago, he would have floored that kid and not look back. He's getting slower and weaker in his old age and he knows and admits to this.

Certainly was close. It's not like she knew what she was doing, though. I heard that when people are new to shooting , they hold the gun low because they want to see the full target, and the gun blocks the view.

@@chrismorton4959 Quite the contrary. Depending on the load, the chances of a 9MM exiting can be very high. However what matters more here is the angle taken for the shot. In this case, Joel was flat on ground so the risk was low.

Seeing dudes with halo images on their profile saying how could Joel not being able to kill this kid is hilarious, calling out the kid for being badass and then crying when he’s the one dying, wtf you talking about, we played The Last of Us, we’re gamers, you and I would be that kid in this situation, we won’t be Joel, stop detaching from reality hahaha

I love how sharp they made the shot sound. It’s defiant and very prominent. Also feels super real. You hear the echo and the bullet fall to the ground. It’s very weighted and real. There’s a reality to it obviously, and Ellie’s fascination with it fades as quickly as it emerges. Really great scene Also gotta love how Joel could have shot the guy and ended it quick, but he CHOSE to stab him. I think it was of course deliberate, dude almost killed him, so that stab felt very personal. Nice detail

This scene is so weak compared to the game 💀 Joel went from being drowned and some guy pushing his head underwater to some guy sitting on his lap. Tel me Joel couldn’t have thrusted his hips???

It's different, not weak. Do you want the exact same thing to happen? If so what's the point of even having the show. Joel is older, weaker, and less OP - that's the direction. But he's still going to face these obstacles and at least it shows how much more Ellie is necessary to his own survival

This was very, very underwhelming compared to the game. Some scenes I think this show did right, though. Even the ones that are nothing like the game. This scene just kinda sucked

this scene was amazing. ellie's fear and how the guy begged for his life and she had to hear it. How Joel told her to go behind the wall so she didn't have to see Joel finish the job. Instead of ellie just being like "I shot the hell out of that guy!" So much more gritty.

I think when Joel said 14 to Tommy he refers to Ellie only being 14 which is a young age to shoot someone. I dont think he meant bryan was 14

What's interesting is that this Joel is 56 and he later says that if he was 5 years younger he would've destroyed Bryan no problem. Joel from the game is 51.
