I played 3rd, center and left field (and a bit of SS). Mostly at 3rd though (high school, some low level college, and of course men’s league or town ball). My pitchers hated me at 3rd for my arm lol (and obviously I’m no big leaguer throwing upper 90’s). I did throw damn hard though, and from the hot corner I couldn’t throw it over the pitcher or it would sail over the first basemen, always need to be a frozen rope about chest/waste high… so I would always see the pitcher (in my tunnel vision) either hitting the deck or running his ass off the mound to get out of the way lol. When I got into my 30’s I finally switched over to softball. Every time I played with a new team the first game all my new team mates would just be “holy shit man, you got an arm”. They would stick me in left center and I basically shut down any extra base taking (like there is any in softball anyways). These days I’m getting close to 40, my shoulder is shredded and it’s painful to even play catch with my kid :/… ahh the good ole days though

I was doing a job in Ohio and so I rented an apartment in the Dayton area for a couple of months so I didn't have to live in a hotel. The place was just a few minutes drive from the Dayton AA baseball park so I would go watch the games any time they were at home. I'd never heard of DeLaCruz before. I could not believe what I was seeing. The baseball jumped off his bat in a way that is entirely different than the other hitters -- the balls he hits well travel further in a shorter time thsn any I've seen at any level -- and he is the fastest guy on the field by a large margin-- and he throws the baseball across the diamond harder than anyone I've ever seen , major league players included-- I remember thinking that unless he gets struck by lightning he is on his way to the Show in short order and I would bet my last dollar on it . I would rave to the people on the job the next day about this kid and they thought I was overreacting.. I even wondered at first if he was really as good as he seems. . I ended up going to almost every Dragons home game for the 50 or so days I was working up there and I was convinced that the Reds had a future superstar . '
