The Righteous Bison has an incredibly broken hidden stat that I never see anybody talk about: + if you use the bison for long enough, eventually everyone on the server will switch to it

Personally I just can never stop using the shotgun. Pyros these days are a lot better than they used to be and it's always funny hitting them with a rocket, watching them backup to reflect the next rocket and then taking out the shotgun to punish them from a range they can't get me from. It is old reliable but if you're like me and still coming to grips with tricky rockets pyros can't reflect then the shotgun is an amazing secondary.

manntreads are actually sometimes used in competitive highlander to push into swiftwater second by ubering a soldier into red's house, since pyro can't airblast him away

I am not sure if I am the only one who does that, but I really like playing with the rocket jumper, the stock shotgun, and the escape plan. It feels like playing something between Scout and Fat Scout. I call it Rocket Scout.

its all fun and games with the gunboats until you have 1000 hours on soldier and still have absolutely no idea how to use the shotgun. also i just played you tonight on badwater :)

you forgot to mention the achilles heel of the battalion’s backup, you’re never going to be able to use the banner if you can’t stay alive long enough to charge the 2 quintillion damage you need for it. ..although that might just be a skill issue on my part.. Good video.

There's not much in TF2 that's scarier than the sound of all the banners blowing at once. When your team has no soldiers.

Soliders best secondary is hand grenade, Best primary is patriotism and Best melee is American Fists

Funnily enough, the gunboats would actually be more book accurate to the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy's shoes were actually silver, not red, but because colour film was new they changed it to ruby slippers.

I find that the Panic Attack has very good synergy with the Beggar’s; after firing a volley of rockets you can quick swap to the panic attack for a quick burst of damage faster than you can reload your Beggar’s

There isn't a perfect secondary for soldier, but each one of them are good for a certain situation.

I love using the shotgun with the Soldier because a lot of players wait until you're out of rockets and expect you to be defenseless until you pull up grandpa's boomstick and blast them into oblivion for being stupid, almost no one expect a Soldier to be rocking a shotgun. And yes that does mean I am a Reserve Shooter enthusiast, I love the noise that thing makes, and it will never not be funny to see Soldiers and Demos rocket/sticky jumping away and dying for it because of the funny green shotgun

The panic attack has incredible synergy with the direct hit, the quick switch can get you ridiculous damage up close. I've melted through fully overhealed heavies at close range

An underrated use for mantreads. Use them in your normal loadouts to push through a choke with an uber and watch those pyros die of confusion as they spam m2 furiously. It is sometimes used in comp in swiftwater apartments. I remember using it in casual and being called a hacker by a noob pyro

The reserve shooter is objectively better than the stock shotgun as long as you don't need more than 4 shots, which is the case the vast majority of the time in my experience

the battalion's backup is always the best sound to hear when that 8000 hour demoman's weapon starts glowing

I like the reserve shooter because it saves me a rocket when I wanna airshot, good against pyros, short circuit engies , and great against other soldiers

The reserve shooter is a personal favorite of mine. Shotguns are always usefull (even with 4 bullets) and the mini-crit combo from launching an enemy up are endlessly satisfying to pull off

I've recently started using the rocket jumper + shotgun + equalizer since I have shit shotgun aim and it's probably one of the most fun play styles I've tried for soldier

Serious talk, the bison is actually really good, I forget which other youtuber covered it, but they summed it up really well that using it is a skill issue in most cases for actually dealing damage, and while not having a key focus on dealing damage, it's the option best chosen for retreating after running out of rockets in your clip when getting into the heat of things as the projectiles have laggy travel time, so it forces the other person to sit there away from line of sight or run forward and tank the damage, which results in them eating 2-3+ shots fired after the first one.

Reserve shooter is a direct upgrade from stock if you're a good shot. Not even for the mini crits; It deploys faster and does the same damage, making it great for finishing off enemies.

Choices of secondary on soldier that may or may not explain what kind of player you are, my take. Stock shotgun : you're either A. A new player B. You hate pyros C. You appreciate the constant reliable damage on the shotgun Panic attack : you want to use the shotgun, but you're too cool for stock. That's what you think, you hipster. Reserve shooter : you're either amazing at aiming rockets or absolutely garbage at aiming rockets. Nowhere in between Mantreads : you have the Market gardener equipped 10/10. While you may use the regular damaging rocket launcher, you'll try to use the meme spoon at any golden opportunity. Oh yeah and you lift weights and is an absolute Chad IRL. Gunboats : I've never seen anybody uses the gunboats. Ever. So if you use the gunboats, you're a mystical fairy. Conch : you're an absolute pussy and trash at the game. Bonus points if you use the blackbox and cherry on top of you use the escape plan along with it. Buff banner : people who used this for themselves often realise that they're not benefiting much from it and swap to another secondary. So if you're using the buff banner religiously, you're a team player and I'll love you forever. Battalion's backup : you're using this just for the 20+ HP boost. Admit it. If not, you paired it with the direct miss to deal with sentries. If these two aren't you, then I guess you're a glorified team player? Buff banner soldiers are a bigger team player than you, my friends. It's a fact. Bison : you're a sad guy. You missed the times when the bison is pretty good meme-wise and you really hoped that valve reworked it back to what it's used to be. I'd hug you if I'm right beside you. Or, you're a KZfaqr collecting clips. Anything else I missed?

The Gunboats allow for Soldier to use the Market Gardener with a damaging Rocket Launcher. If I could jump I’d like using it tbh

I use the reserve shooter and the beggars bazooka, my gameplay is stupid asf it's more of "I oh so wish i get someone flying" and someone mysteriously dies after 5 seconds after finishing that sentence.

I prefer to use Direct Hit and Reserve Shooter. I'm telling you, combine that with a Kritzkrieg Medic or Buff Banner makes for good clips.

All i really wished was for the gunboats to be actually FUN to use, on one hand they’re an amazing utility tool to help you rocket jump, which i love mobility in the game, but on the other hand it just straight up feels like its a waste of a slot considering you not having a backup gun which is a reasonable trade off

The only reason I use the shotgun is because I love using it with the rocket jumper, flanking the enemy, dropping out of nowhere, killing a few people and then immediately dying. I call it, the more American scout.

Personally i prefer the Panic atack because the rockets already covers mid-long range, so i choose the shotgun that does more damage at close range, plus it has a fixed spread and since i suck at aiming theres always at least 1 or 2 pellets connecting, which is better than zero which is the case for me often with the stock shotgun

The gunboats if you don't trust your team, the panic attack if you do

The Reserve Shooter is so fucking hot. I sometimes hit mini crits on players before they even leave the ground from the blast of my rocket. Also yeah it deals well with those annoying rocket jumping soldiers.

Personally I believe there is no better dopamine rush as soldier than taking down an air blast god with a strange shotgun tracking “pyros killed”

In the post jungle inferno pub meta the shotgun is absolutely the way to go for most of your playtime. There is guaranteed to be 3+ pyros on each team and the vast majority of them are good enough to press m2 vaguely at the right time to invalidate your entire class if you go without a shotgun.

Stock shotgun will always be old reliable. I definitely just don't use it so I can keep killing after my Black Box is out of ammo. Melee is Escape Plan, I call it "Winglet Soldier" Also late to the party but whatever

My opinion is that the reserve shooter and panic attack are best. A quick swap to your shotgun allows you to punish players in short range or when you run out of rockets
