This is a short documentary film about the groundwater in Elmvale, Ontario, and William Shotyk, a professor who has been sampling and testing the water, for many years. Test results show it may be one of the cleanest water sources on earth.
As the demand for concrete grows with our cities around the world, so does the demand for aggregates to make that concrete. They are usually found in the most important parts of Earth's natural water filtration systems, the filter. Limestones, fine gravels and so forth, are the filters that allow the groundwater to be so clean in the first place, and in Elmvale, only an hour and a half away from the Greater Toronto Area, is a perfect intersection between the decisions we have to make as a society about our future. Those are, protecting natural systems like this hydrological one, so that future generations continue to have life requiring access to fresh water, and the continual growth of our mega cities.

Thank you Galen for sharing this awesome documentary. I'm so happy someone did this. I have been drinking this water since 2008 and whenever I run out I always find I feel so dehydrated drinking any other water. This water is a game changer and needs to be preserved... and revered. -- Kim Vidya

Hi Kim. It's the Carbon Filter(s) that made you thirstier when you drink "filter" water or store-bought. If you have those Reverse Osmosis or House Filters. Just remove the Carbon Cartridges and you are good. How did I find out? Our City Water goes through Carbon Filters. My Dad's Wells Water goes through Carbon Filter. The places we buy our Water Bottles go through Carbon Filters. Because of that, I keep getting thirstier every time I drink it. As soon I remove the Carbon Filter out of my Dad's System, I can drink the water again. Then, I went into learning Chemistry... I found out that ONE Carbon STEAL or BIND with 2 Water Molecules. So basically it binds with water as in 2 verses 1. That is what made some of us thirstier after drinking it.

The beautiful illustration of soil, at 4:00 minutes, is from the book "Watersheds: A Practical Handbook for Healthy Water" by Clive Dobson (Illustrator) and Gregor Gilkin Beck, published by Firefly Books (1999). The artwork by Clive Dobson in this book is simply wonderful.

Cool. I've driven by this little water station by the road a number of times on my way to other places from S. Ont.; never stopped but there's something very old-fashioned and neat about it. Just one more thing that needs to be protected against commercial/iindustrial land use that doesn't respect nature.

There needs to be a government decree or law to preserve this area and the surrounding areas. In the process of getting concrete, if we lose the good water, we're going to lose society's ability to support such a large population.
@GalenPhotography
@GalenPhotography Ай бұрын
I would disagree that there 'needs' to be government involvement at all. Individual responsibility and stewardship is the more net benefit path - but whether or not our society is capable of such communal behaviour while also staying more and more isolated in our little boxes, is the real question. If we keep making everything a law or decree we will be consumed by them. The rule of law is literally what separates functional societies from non functional ones, but its a diminishing return problem. At a point, each new one weighs us down, rather than lifts us up.

I live in the elmvale area.the minisrty for northern developement came and tested my well .they said they were mapping the underground water system in ontario , including all the characterisics of the water ( contaminates and such ).they told me they would give me the results but it would take a while .i called and talked to the ministry lady around dec.she said she would have results and email them to me by mid winter .i have yet to recieve any notification of the results .i learned on my owm it probbably had more tp do with the impending decision to grant or extend the permit for that pit in tiny .i m still waiting to hear from them on my water results .

I was there today and there was a slight sulphur smell to it. Is this something that's happened to the water recently due to quarry activity? After drinking a cup I felt a little nautious (was it in my head???) and I know it can't be worst than municipal Lake Ontario Water! Does it take the body some getting use to considering I've drank municipal all my life? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

SAY NO TO POOLS AND HOT TUBS ON OUR FRESHWATER SHORELINES (TOWNSHIP OF TINY) The Township of Tiny is approving Minor Variance applications to install pools and hot tubs on the shoreline. This means the applicant does not have the room to install these on their lot and asks the Committee of Adjustment for The Township of Tiny for approval. The shoreline in the Township of Tiny on Georgian Bay starts about 13.4 km or 8.32 miles from Elmvale, Ontario. We are on wells and septic systems and our hydro goes out for hours at a time. These pools and hot tubs use vast amounts of water and hydro to heat and maintain them. We are being told that pools and hot tubs are allowed in The Township of Tiny. Let Mayor George Cornell Township of Tiny know we need a by- law to prohibit them. This is becoming a unwanted approved by The Township of TIny trend. Water is Life swim in the Bay!!!!!!!!!!

I do not have any information regarding a gravel company but am aware that this entire region is highly touted for its great quality aggregate. Invade is the wrong word in my opinion but this is the KZfaq comment section so my expectations are pretty low to begin with.

Only way, grab a bunch of containers (glass being best but heaviest, drive to Elmvale and find one of the several public wells, like in this film, and fill them up! Hope to never see this source bottled - but it is more than likely that some of Nestle's Canadian sources includes this same aquifer.

@@niconicouana Best place to fill up is just under(or about) a kilometre north of the Elmvale town centre - as you head north on the right side of the road there is a kiosk with several taps that have constant flow (meaning they do not turn off and use naturally occurring hydrological pressure to keep flowing) - this is the kiosk we feature in this film.

I went by recently and the water has a smell to it. Might be a bit like Sulphur but my husband says it smells swampy. Is that smell normal? We tested the tds and it was about 150.
@GalenPhotography
@GalenPhotography Жыл бұрын
Thanks Patricia! It is normal for groundwater in that area to have the sulphur smell... unfortunate but usually if you let it stand for a while it loses it. TDS is important, but the specific S's are important to know. Also, higher TDS water is actually more hydrating (I am not qualified to actually say this I have only heard this).

Ever since they changed the water pipes on Jarvis Street in down town water my hands started getting itchy and flakey. Cloramine or chlorine and who knows what else. I complained to the MP,s they test for everything but chlorine. I want to know what's in this water making my hands so itchy I don't cook or wash my vegetables in it or brush my teeth. Scared 😳
