I am really enjoying this lesson and want to catch all the others too. I get correct pronunciation, deep insight and all this while fitting in the care of a disabled husband and the housework. You have a winning combination of explanation, reduction of vowels and nouns that inspires me to learn more while diving into my Hebrew Bible for sheer excitement and gratitude. Live long and may God turn his face towards you always

I found your comment regarding Nineveh very interesting, when you called it a great city to Elohim. It tied in with what I've thought about recently as to why Jonah should be sent there if it was a gentile city. And why should Nineveh be singled out of all the Assyrian cities which we would assume were idolatrous? In Gen 10:11 it says, 'Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah'. This immediately follows what is said about Nimrod and his kingdom. Asshur was one of the sons of Shem, and so it is possible that as a follower of Yahweh he came out from Nimrod's apostate kingdom and built Nineveh as a refuge for true believers. Nineveh later became the capital of the Assyrian empire in 705 bc, and Jonah's time was around the time of Jeroboam II or before, c. 830 bc. This was before Assyria started to threaten Israel. At this point there was obviously still some hope for the Ninevites, before they became fully corrupted. The Ninevites being Semitic people, may still have been worshipping Yahweh when Jonah was sent to them, I don't know, but in any case, their behaviour had obviously degenerated. For this reason, we can better understand God's regard for it, as a once faithful city, unlike others in the area. If all this is correct then to call it a great city to Elohim, seems very applicable.

Thank you for an interesting video and an enlightening one in regard to the plurality in some passages. You mention Gen 35:7 where the Elohim who appeared to Jacob at Bethel is plural. This fits in with the dream he had at Bethel where he saw the angels of God ascending and descending on the ladder. Since angels are mighty ones, then these could be the Elohim he refers to. Jacob calls God the God of Bethel, or El of the house of El. In the context we could understand that he is God of the house of God, which has in it many angels. So, we could read it 'Jacob called the place God of God's house, because there the Gods (mighty ones/angels) appeared unto him'. In Deut 4:35 you said that 'Elohim' is plural Gods, in the phrase 'the LORD he is God'. This could again refer to his angels, as he empowers them to do his work, he works through them, and they bear his name. They are his hands and fingers as it were. So, in the beginning God singular created everything, but he evidently utilised his angels to share in the creative work, which can be seen if we connect Psalms 33 and 103. Ps 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made....9 For he spake, and it was done; *he commanded* and it stood fast. Ps 103:20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that, *do his commandments* hearkening unto the voice of his word. 21 Bless ye the LORD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure. God spoke and commanded, and his angels carried it out. So, when he says in Gen 1:26 'let *us* make' he could be speaking with his angels. We might ask, why would he do so when they are inferior to him? In Luke 1:19 when Zechariah doubted the angel's word he said, 'I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God'. In other words, he was privy to God's plans, so perhaps at creation he had also stood in God's presence along with other angels. Gabriel means 'man of God', and as angels often appeared in human form it makes sense for us to be created in the image of such beings. In the Psalm 58 passage, David earlier has spoken about the wickedness of the judges, and then their eventual destruction. At which point there will be a reward for the righteous (v11), and men will say verily there are mighty ones (Elohim) judging in the earth, or men who are now judging righteously. From an online Hebrew interlinear it says, 'yea there is Elohim ones judging in earth.' I don't know whether Jer 48:13 is the passage you were thinking of regarding Bethel being a God. In v13 Israel's confidence in Bethel is compared to Moab's worship of Chemosh, but I think it refers to the fact that Bethel became the place of idolatry when Jeroboam placed the calf idols there.

Do you believe that when a person has been scribed as saying something in the scriptures that is as it was said by the person that said to the hot and tittle? Considering this would explain some of the what seems like out of place plural Elohim? For it to me a truly divine record I assume that it is that way.

Please Moses, how do we know The True and only God Elohim when the same term is used of the false god's. Is it purely dependant on Context or does the Hebrew letter Construct of the word Elohim have some type of distinction between the two?
