Currently, Tesla operates six Gigafactories. However, Gigafactory New York focuses on producing solar energy products, such as solar roofs and energy storage systems, rather than electric vehicles. Similarly, the Fremont factory is dedicated to manufacturing the Model S and Model X. This leaves only four other Gigafactories capable of producing vehicles equipped with sodium-ion batteries.

The Gigafactory in Nevada, a collaboration with Panasonic, is one of the world's largest lithium-ion battery producers. Known for its advanced infrastructure and flexibility, this facility, already earmarked for producing Tesla's 18-wheel semi-trucks due to a $3.6 billion investment in 2023, can adjust its production lines to accommodate sodium-ion batteries, leveraging its current annual output of approximately 35 GWh of battery capacity.
Moving to China, Gigafactory Shanghai is a significant player, producing Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. With a current production capacity exceeding 750,000 vehicles annually and the potential to reach 1 million, the factory has a robust battery production expansion capability. This adaptability allows it to integrate sodium-ion battery production, contingent on the new technology's efficacy.

More Tesla hype, there’s no supply chain for sodium-ion batteries. While they charge faster, the life cycle is 50% of lithium, they don’t hold as much power either. It could be 5 years before sodium-ion batteries are usable at scale.

@@adamtech999 When you purchase an electric vehicle, you must check whether the vehicle is equipped with an NCM or NCMA type of battery with a high nickel percentage (90% or more). Among existing battery types, the ultra-high Nickel ingredient NCM or NCMA has not only the highest energy density and the best low-temperature characteristics but also the fastest charging speed. Moreover, cost efficiency, i.e. price per unit volume/weight considering energy density, would be better than others. Due to substantial technical characteristics, Sodium batteries and LFP batteries are not suitable for electric vehicles that require a high C-Rate (high current charging/discharging). So Sodium batteries or LFP batteries are not stable in such high C-rate environments in cars and they may cause a fire in the worst environment. Instead, Sodium batteries or LFP batteries are more suitable for ESS (Energy Storage System). Sodium batteries are much better than LFP batteries in the low-temperature characteristics. You all need to keep this in mind.
