Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is known as a well-known cryptocurrency enthusiast who often expresses his support. He has focused his attention lately on promoting one particular coin, namely Dogecoin. The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla recently updated support for the meme coin. Musk said he would be happy to eat McDonald's on television, if the fast food franchise accepted payments in Dogecoin. "I would eat Happy Meal on TV if McDonald's accepted Dogecoin," Musk said.
His tweet has garnered more than 3.91 likes and has been retweeted more than 56,000 times. McDonald's responded to the exchange, saying they would do so, "only if Tesla accepts grimacecoin". It was a currency based on the purple character sometimes featured in McDonald's commercials. According to CoinDesk, McDonald's tweet "spurred the creation of nearly 10 grimacecoins on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) network". Many people also make quick money by creating tokens named after burger-loving purple flavors.
McDonald's rival Burger King also seized the opportunity and jumped into the ring. Burger King told Musk, "Only a king knows what a coin does". That very clearly implies support, assuming that Musk's idea is positive. Dogecoin has also responded to Musk with an animated GIF showing Dogecoin's mascot, the Shiba Inu dog from the “Doge” meme, playing hide-and-seek with the crowd behind a McDonald's meal. Several people commented on Musk's tweet. Some are urging McDonald's to accept payments in Dogecoin immediately.
