Elops 520 Bike Decathlon model 2020 Review after 2 years daily usage

In this video I do a non edited review of the Elops 520 bike bought 2 years ago at Decathlon. If this video gets more then 100 views i will do an In-depth edited review for this bike. If you have any questions post them in the comments and i will do my best to answer them as soon as possible.

I still haven't made an more extensive video. I am sorry for that. This video kinda blew up. I currently still ride the bike. It has become more rusted but rides fine the Brakes still make a terrible squeaking sound but they work. I also bought two new Tires because the current ones are almost black from all the rides and just general wear. I still recommend buying this bike if you are on a tight budget and don't mind some rust.

With a little care, a bike doesn't look like this. I think the chain has never seen a drop of oil.

Thats were you are wrong, i live in a climate with high moist in the air. Rainy days are quite often. And i use the bike on a daily base. The bike gets maintenance on a half yearly base

@@Digitalforward Under these conditions that is not enough. The chain runs completely dry. This is not good. I live in spain where it is warm and dry. The chain and the gears are cleaned and oiled every two weeks.

@@lostinspain3263 hmm that is allot of maintenance. the chain on a normal high end bike is mostly incased and isnt that exposed to the climate. heb i was at Decathlon they said rust was a common problem with these bikes. I still ride the bike daily without a problem aside from the squeky brakes. thanks for your comment.

I have the same bike (same colour even), and it does not have a single rusty patch. I've had it for two years now, and have done about 2500-3000 km on it for commuting. Changed the tyres and chain this year, and I service the bike myself each month - brakes check, chain oil, clean the drivetrain, clean the frame, bolts check, gear shifting check. No fancy mechanism of any sort in this bike, a couple of hours each month is sufficient if you have an idea what you are doing (and if you don't - well this is a perfect opportunity to get the basics - plenty of videos on how to do basic maintenance). Biggest problem is that it weighs 20 kilograms, so not great if you have hills to climb but if mostly flat, no worries. I do keep mine in the basement, though, which is nice and dry - this is major difference here. For the EUR 260 that I paid (and throw in EUR 50 more for new chain and tyres) it has many times paid off in not having to buy gasoline for my car and not having to pay for parking. It is a nice cheap bike, though if you go second hand it is probable you may get a better bank for your buck, tbh.

Good comment, and you are right. This bike stands outside exposed to the outdoor air but under a roof. I bought 2 new outer tires and a new chain and plan on doing some maintenance. But imho a normal commute bike shouldnt need monthly maintenance. An offroad or MTB bike are other stories.

@@Digitalforward Perhaps I overdo it, agree, as I line it along with my MTB and just do both. However, if conditions are harsh, maintenance should be also more, imho.

@@Digitalforward Have you stored other bikes this way and they didn't rust? Good chance that winter (frost), rain and snow did their job.

i'm sorry that bike was not taken care off. if you live in a very humid place you have to use proper maitenance

I live in the netherlands near the German border. Its Just a cheap bike made with cheap material. Dont expect the same quality as a 2000 euro/dollar bike. Its durable but it will rust fast

I envy you. That is a wonderful place I always brag about the cycling experience there. Never the less. A proper maintenance keeps a bike perfect. I have 4 bikes from decathlon and no problems.. I make a monthly maintenance. For my commute bike.

Hi. I just had the same problems that you and additionally some of the screws also broke. Did you find some tutorials on how to proper maintain this bike?

No tutorials, this bike is made with cheap components. You can let the maintenance been done by Decathlon themselfs they have All the components to fix it

I guess you live in a very humid climate, a coastal line, or leave the bike outside all year?

I live in the Netherlands close to the german border so no sea nearby but i do leave the bike outside alle year round but IT doesn't get wet. I have filmed an more extensive review which only needs to be dubbeld and edited

where is the in depth edited review? you already have more than 100 views :D by the way that is a lot of rust. i used mine since 2019, even in rain and through mud. I am leaving it outside during a work day and i don't have a significant rust problem. but there are issues with this bike.

you are totally right An indepth review is definitly coming but since we are currently in a Heat wave I Am waiting on a little cooler weather. expect a review next week!
