Fortress of the Pearl was a later novel, from the late 80's or early 90's. Personally, it lacks the adolescent energy and weirdness of 60's-70's Elric

This makes much more sense. Definitely a different feel. The copyright info in the book had me assuming it was out of the 60's.

"The Fortress of the Pearl (1989), the first Elric novel for thirteen years, expanded the saga and slots, chronologically, between events in Elric of Melniboné and 'The Sailor On the Seas of Fate." - Source: The Elric Saga Vol. 1 Saga Press.

Moorcock needs more love and attention in this day and age. All his books are metal as hell.

I read the original six books in the series and had a blast, yet I've never read any of the spinoffs or in between books. I'll have to fix that!

@@slowlyred2082 it has the geopoltiics of game of thrones without the lengthy pages that taked forever to get to the point, has 1st person pov for each chapter that switches between protaginst and antagonist, and is based on islamic and pre Islamic cultures with an Ottoman horse raiders thing going on, the Jinn are LOL, theres coamic horror, and the action is set for a movie, magic is very magicy with elphant sized fire balls wind vortexs eldertich magic etc, and lastly theres cosmic horror Its poliltic fantasy that unlike a lot gets to the point without scarficing action scenes and development. Thr dialogue is funny 2
