Elroy - Sparta State Trail: Part 1 - Biking from Tunnel 1 to Wilton

Video of my 6 mile bike ride on the Elroy - Sparta State Trail. This video, part 1 of 3, runs from the entrance of Tunnel 1 to the city of Wilton. (Part 2 of 3 is from Wilton to Norwalk with Tunnel 2 and Part 3 of 3 is from Norwalk to Tunnel 3.) The video was shot on August 9th, 2022 and was captured with a DJI Osmo Action camera on a 2022 model Evelo Omega bike. Edited on a Mac using iMovie and Keynote. Inside the really long tunnel there is a place where they tunneled down from the top. On a multiday trip back in the early eighties there was a guy, my lady friend and I, met at one of the tunnel entrances, he took us up on top the where the vertical shaft was , and there was ice inside it that doesn't melt all summer

That's so cool (literally). For some reason (okay, poor planning) I always do this trail after they've had rain and the long tunnel is like walking in a rain storm.

I also ride an Evelo Omega…did you find the stock tires from Omega were sufficient for this trail or had you switched to a different tire. If so, which tires would you recommend? Thanks!

I find the stock tires to be quite good, both in longevity and traction. I run them close to the maximum pressure to get less rolling resistance/better battery life.

What is your mileage total for this season so far? Forgive me if this is a dumb question but was the tunnel made for bikes or was it made for some earlier purpose and converted to a bike trail? Looks too small for a train. Cool video!

Originally built for trains in 1873. Chicago & North Western Railway. I’m at 2,506 miles for the year. Off my usual pace due to cold March, April and May.
