Elsa Dreisig sings "Come scoglio immoto resta" - Mozart: Così fan tutte (Salzburg Festival '20)

In a production so highly acclaimed that it was brought back for a second consecutive year, this Summer 2020 production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte premiered as part of the festival's 100th anniversary celebrations and was entirely conceived under pandemic conditions. Created in a matter of weeks by a team led by award-winning stage director Christoph Loy and conductor Joana Malwitz, it was hailed by the German newspaper Die Welt as “The best Mozart at Salzburg for decades.” The three female singers in the cast are all closely linked with the Erato label - soprano Elsa Dreisig and mezzo-sopranos Marianne Crebassa and Lea Desandre. They are joined by tenor Bogdan Volkov and baritones Andrè Schuen and Johannes Martin Kränzle in an ensemble that was praised for its balance, harmony, and dramatic credibility.
“We are delighted,” says the Salzburg Festival’s artistic director Markus Hinterhäuser, “that this production - which allows audiences to hear and experience the miracle of Mozart in all its delicacy and grace, and realised with the greatest theatrical and musical intelligence - is now available on DVD.”

Probably the only way to sing this aria decently as a light lyric. If she were full lyric or spinto she'd probably use mixed voice

Brava! Excellent acting by all of the cast. Fiordiligi was very believable. Her internal struggle was real. Excellent singing!

Sufficiently great :) Now I can book the tickets to listen to her here in Berlin the next month in this, or Don Giovanni. I only hope the staging and design art would not be so frightfully appalling.

@@Aurelia2147 The issue is not how 'cool' the artiste is, or how admirable (or otherwise) it is for her to display a tattoo to all and sundry on the stage of the Salzburg Festival. The question is, has she properly portrayed the character of Fiordiligi, a girl torn between her highly moral nature and the temptations of the 'Albanians'. Does the singer comport herself as Fiordiligi would have done? Has she gotten inside the mind of the character? Would Fiordiligi wear a tattoo? Or is this whole production a scandalous exaltation of the misplaced values of the XXIst century, rather than an honest and humble attempt to do justice to the masterpiece written by Mozart and da Ponte 231 years ago?

@@jasonhurd4379 Why do you believe someone who is of highly moral nature would not wear a tattoo? Why do you believe stories have to be interpreted and presented in one way just because they have been written 231 years ago? Just because this production is more modern than you would like it to be doesn't mean it is lacking. Perhaps to you it is but to me it isn't. There is no correct way to tell a story and some people may prefer a style over the other. That doesn't mean that one way is superior. Listen to the music! Just because Elsa Dreisig doesn't look as you want her to look doesn't mean she isn't good at potraying the character - on the contrary! She is fully emerged in the role and is simply brilliant

I always find it interesting how people manifest their own preference as the ideal, I mean there is no such a thing as an exact determination (by Mozart) of the voice needed for this role

It's a completely valid way of singing it and she does it beautifully. No, her voice doesn't have to be any different maybe the way people listen should be were they interested in the flexibility the notes actually have for all different kinds of voices and personalities. She also brings out different emotions how unsettled this character can be rather than the standard hawkishness. I think it's refreshing.
