Here's the first live solo performance of I'm Still Standing (and the only solo version in the 80's). Elton here is in pristine vocal shape, sounding exactly like the studio version in spots. There is a marked difference in his voice between his last gig, Wembley Stadium on June 30th, and his next gig a week later in Tempe, Arizona (Aug. 17th). He has a light tone that sounds like a stronger 1979 voice. The only flaw is that he flubs a few lines and the audience isn't ready to participate at times :P. Enjoy!

Each one was recorded - he travels with a film crew for live audience. Question is who will pay to release them

Its amazing how much younger and better Elton's voice sounds after resting his voice for a while. He played Circle Of Life in a Ukranian orphanage and sounded so much different.

He would’ve had his Golden throat but also throat cancer. And besides he still sounds golden on the lower scales. He’s still our Elton

Only solo I’ve found of him playing in the original key (a minor). After his voice changed he transposed the key half a note (to d flat major) and down half half an octave.

It's performed in the same key today (Bb). The only songs that Elton has had to transpose were Someone Saved (from Ab to F), Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (from F to Eb), and Empty Garden (from E to D, although he performed it in Eb in 1988 and 1999). There were some exceptions. During the '93-'94 Ray Cooper tour, Elton performed Where to Now St. Peter a whole step down, but performed it in the original key in 2007. He also performed Ticking one semitone higher (from B to C) from 1999 to 2003.

bccsrox you may want to check again. He starts this song out with the base bouncing between a0 and a1 (a minor) Use a tuning app if you don’t believe me. Feel free to google it as well. Every solo you’ll ever find he starts out half a note up at b flat 0 and b flat 1 (in the key of d flat major)

@@WJ165 Just so you know, I asked Davey Johnstone this question 6 years ago on Musinq and he said that the song is in Bb (but Davey plays the solo in A like on the album version). I will ask my friend who has perfect pitch to confirm this (and he might reply to this thread), but I'm certain that it's Bb.

B flat minor. I can’t think of an occasion in which the song has been performed in another key by Elton. I have perfect pitch, by the way.

This was one of the last performances that his voice sounded like the studio recordings. It was the vocal surgery alcohol drugs and smoking it was also just aging. But unfortunately his voice aged horribly.
