"Recover Your Soul" is a glorious ballad sung beautifully by Elton. It's a huge favourite of mine. Plus the interview was great - I love Elton's wicked sense of humour.

@@preesi1403 yeah, probably nobody in these particular comments, but he certainly has his critics, a lot of it centering around his personal life these days it seems, and he's the first to admit that over the years he's been a nightmare to deal with on many occasions

The same could be said about Jimmy Saville, although in his case he didn't start fundraising because he thought there'd be a risk of himself catching something

There was a lot of lip-synching on the TV in until the mid/late 90s. There used to be a MU ruling that if you wanted to sing live you had to re-record your own song to create a new backing track or play live with other session musicians, Who could be bothered to do that when neither would actually sound like the song you are trying to promote?
@thelonelyghosts90042 жыл бұрын
Enya still does it!

Those commenting about lip-syncing need to realise this is dramatised for Television. It is a nice studio song, but not “live”, there wouldn’t be the budget for all the gadgetry involved, no doubt. In fact, many performances I’ve done are done long before the editors do their splicing!
@epona91663 жыл бұрын
But why does it need to be "dramatized for TV"? Of all the musicians in the world, Elton John would seem to be one of the most capable of just sitting down and playing and singing and being AMAZING. We''ve seen him do it many times as part of interviews, including the one where he sang "Daniel" during one of the James Lipton interviews. Since reading his book, I've been watching his many live performances available on KZfaq and I found this not even worth watching by comparison. When I realized he was lip syncing I stopped to read the comments...
@bobsmodelrailways3 жыл бұрын
@@epona9166 Its simply an advertising stunt to promote the song/CD/Record. It’s done a lot so that it sounds exactly like the version you’re going out to buy......... which makes you go out and buy it! (And he has the gall to criticise Madonna for doing exactly this!)

I was surprised by the lip syncing too. I think this was the first series of Parky’s comeback. I saw McCartney on his show in 99 and there was no lip syncing. Anyway, excellent interview.

You can tell by looking at the way he's singing and playing the piano, he normally sings into the microphone and the microphone is ages away from him, (the track is the exact same as the music video and hes not actually playing live, after it he looks a little nervous as well@@smartiboo

You can always tell when he’s lip syncing cos the microphone is miles away from his mouth! Usually he’s “kissing” the mic...
@Alantheleopard4 жыл бұрын
It´s a paradox that he always criticized lip-synching so hard and still does it a few times, like here. Yep, the micro is not only "miles away" from him but also clearly to one side of him, to his right shoulder. It seems to me that in here he even missed the first "Let´s recover" opening the song...I am no piano-player, but even the way he plays the piano here sounds too smooth for the way he normally plays it and makes it sound. It seems as if they had all those cables connecting the piano with the loudspeakers switched of or something. And the bass and all those other instruments heard during the song?... Well, there are people who only lip-sync every time that they sing, while professionals like Elton only do it a few times only, so let's spare him about this then... Beautiful, beautiful song, anyway. One of Elton´s noblest songs alongside "The One, Live like Horses, Can you feel the love tonight, The Last Song, Friends never say goodbye, Original sin, Believe"... Impossible to pick just one.
