Mr Kavanaugh was playing Elton John’s donated Public Piano at the Station the other day and some tourists called the police on him for playing the piano and people were recording on their phones just like they are here. And there are lots of people being recorded in the background. Yet no one is calling the police in this video here. Now London is banning people from playing the piano. What up with that? LOVE Elton John. The last text my sister sent me before she went to heaven... was Rocketman. Not sure why she did but I now believe she was helping me with her songs at her funeral. Transitions like that are not difficult if you stay in the same key, which he is doing. Also, that is the way he writes his music, he plays in a certain key until he finds a rift he likes. Likely repeating some of what he did when he actually wrote the songs. But you are correct he is very smoooooottthhhhhh for sure!

IMO, He and Bernie were one of the all-time great writing teams, period. Certainly, in pop music. Right amongst greats like Lennon and McCartney. His early works, sometimes putting out 2 records in a year, were prolific and fantastic. Not many could touch his pace and quality of writing at that time. That makes him a musical genius in my book. He plays and sings well but is an absolute jerk of a person. He treats “the common people “ like trash when cameras are not rolling. I have seen it in person and know people in music industry that have horror stories of him. A few years back his security made guests at the peninsula hotel in LA leave the lobby because Elton did not want to see anyone when he went to his room. Absolutely true story. He is a temperamental jerk.

He sat on my bench and sang with me when I was pianist in residence at Hotel Bel Air in 91. I didn't recognize him and gave him an autograph and said I was such a pleasure when a customer wants to sing and the actually CAN ....he'd been coming in to visit friends for a few days. They were busting a gut laughing and calling him Elton Mouse when they left ...THEN the lightbulb went on ...on ET they said that night that he'd been in town on his way to Disney World in Florida to begin work on The Lion King...... Just as well I didn't know it was him ...I'd have been playing all his music (major suck-up) it wouln't have been attractive. xoxo :)

I was privileged to watch him in Sydney in the mid 70s along with 50,000 other fans. He came out and played for 2.5 hours solid and we were all exhausted from dancing and singing too.

Saw him with Billy Joel. Billy played a short set and left the stage. Elton came on and said Billy was ill and wouldn’t return and would anyone mind if he (Elton) played longer to make up for it. The place went nuts. Great show.

I love it when he starts playing the crowd fall silent. He has an incredible ability to draw in audiences wherever he is, captivating them and giving them the gift of his talent. Very few are like that.

What lovely economy of motion! There is a lot of subtlety at play. At times the base is remarkably complex. Then also many chords are played without the thumb of his right hand. Wow!

Lovely to see David there with him also. Elton is one of only a few that have ever stood the test of time in the entertainment industry. He still fills whatever venue he plays. He hasn't had to resort to the pub/club scene as many do after 5 or 10 years. He's still going strong after 50 years.

Man this would be an epic studio addition. I love medleys like this, spanning years of creativity and life's work. Not to mention all the emotion and memories attached to them. Not only for the artist, but all the fans who listen and enjoy. However short, what a ride.
