In my mind that scene and the scene from Lords of Dogtown where Heath Ledger sings along to Rod Steward's Maggie May are tied for most feels in a movie scene. Here's an analogy - perhaps odd, but I've been a professional musician as well as a semi-professional basketball player. If Michael Jordan had been nothing more than an average offensive player, he would still be remembered as one of the greatest defensive players of his generation - that's how good he was. Similarly, Elton John could have never sung a note, but he would have been remembered as one of the best studio pianists of his generation. He was simply that good. However, when coupled with the lyrics of Bernie Taupin [somewhat akin to Michael's Scottie Pippen] an unprecedented legacy evolved. In retrospect, we are all blessed to inherit their legacy.

It's difficult to explain to those who weren't around back then, but Elton John and Bernie Taupin's songs were HUGE in the '70s--you couldn't escape their music on both AM and FM radio. This song really showcases how incredibly talented they both were and that the results of their collaborations were so much more than the sum of their parts--it was phenomenal. What's more, is that they produced so many classic songs of this caliber, year in and year out, for about 6 or 7 years straight. More than ever, I am in awe of what they accomplished.

@@TheCornishCockney Maybe for this song? Usually it was the other way, Bernie had poems or something he felt was a lyric, send them to Elton, whowould then write the music. In the beginning of their partnership, Elton had to "arrange" Bernie's verse to fit into song structure.

Putting aside what a great movie it is (and it IS), the Tiny Dancer scene is just so perfect. Just the way it brings them all together and helps them remember what matters for awhile. If you love music, it makes perfect sense.

@@heatherbegs , Mine too. That and Benny and the Jets. Someone Saved My Life Tonight was about his ex who was a woman and she was pressuring Elton to marry her AND she lied and said she was pregnant! Elton and Bernie went to a club the night b4 he finally got out of the situation. It was because someone at the club(I forget who it was) talked Elton into doing what HE wanted and not what SHE was pressuring him into. Bernie wrote this about that. She still hates that they wrote this and told the truth. She says it wasn't like that. Smh.. If u lied and said you were pregnant to keep a dude then why isnt it bad? Wow!

I thought it was written for Billy Jean King. ETA: Hmm, according to Wiki FWIW, "Bernie Taupin stated in a 1973 interview in that the song is about Maxine Feibelman, his wife at the time. In 2019, Feibelman said, "I knew [the song] was about me. I had been into ballet as a little girl and sewed patches on Elton's jackets and jeans."

As a father of 4 daughters, I can safely tell you, that what you're thinking of, is called a *"Music Box"*. Sometimes the Ballerina figure is in an actual box(or jewelry box), and when you open the lid, music starts as the figurine turns. Sometimes she's a stand alone in the open, on a pedestal, and when you wind it up, it does the spin and music. (And you can get a similar one to that, but inside a snow globe) :-)

It was 1971 and I was 14 years old and I remember it like it was yesterday, the first time I heard "Your Song." Surely that song was written just for me, lol. I have had the pleasure to see Elton in concert many times, from Madison Square Garden to a small college auditorium, with only him and a piano. Amazing! And still my absolute favorite after all these years.

This song holds a very special place in my heart. When me and the ex wife got married, this was the song that we selected for the mother/son dance. Mom lived a rather bohemian lifestyle, and the song spoke of her through and through. Whenever I get to missing mom too much, I watch that part of the wedding video. The marriage to the ex wife didn't last, but the fond memories of mom endure because of this wonderful song.

You made my wife's day, she loves Elton and has been waiting for you to react to him. You could spend weeks reacting to all his great music. He is also one of THE best showmen EVER. His renowned for his costumes and on stage antics. His range is wide and diverse. His soft side like candle in the wind to his version of The Who's Pinball Wizard for the movie Tommy (that is a must by the way). Thank you again and keep it up, we love your videos

Bernie Taupin and Elton John have been writing together for 50 years. I never thought about it as a kid but I remember Bernie was pictured in the albums as part of the band, and I had no idea then how unusual that was. Talk about friendship goals. I'm SO EXCITED that you're doing Elton John, he's an all time favorite. I hope you keep doing his songs. I have so many suggestions, I don't want to be annoying. But here are a few. Border Song, Your Song, Bennie & the Jets, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Levon (please please do Levon), Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, Madman Across the Water, and my personal favorite Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Okay, I'll stop. :)

Lyrics: Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man Ballerina, you must've seen her dancing in the sand And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand Jesus freaks out in the street Handing tickets out for God Turning back, she just laughs The boulevard is not that bad Piano man, he makes his stand In the auditorium Looking on, she sings the songs The words she knows, the tune she hums But oh, how it feels so real Lying here with no one near Only you, and you can hear me When I say softly, slowly Hold me closer, tiny dancer Count the headlights on the highway Lay me down in sheets of linen You had a busy day today Hold me closer, tiny dancer Count the headlights on the highway Lay me down in sheets…
