I just bought that boxed set this past Saturday

I''m kinda like you, I didn't know what to make of this with all the different mixes. I wanted to get one of the boxes as this is my favorite Elvis release. I checked the FTD set, that sells on Shop Graceland for $70 for 3 CDs, no video. I don't own the concert on video so that was important. I watched 2 videos on the Sony box, yours and another channel which broke the releases down for over an hour. Long story short it seems that if you own the Legacy 2 CD set and this box, you have all the audio that is in the FTD set. Plus you get a Blu Ray of the concert. So for $35 it was a no brainer, it is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to the re-remaster and watching the concert! Sorry for the novel, and you probably know all this by now but it seems we picked the right boxset. Love the channel!

I heard (from another fan) that the blu-ray is very poor quality however I'm still getting this 50th anniversary set because I'm a sucker for all things 70's ELVIS and that booklet has me drooling with anticipation. I got the double Vinyl set, The sound is crystal clear to me. It;s exactly as the the original art and songs, nothing extra on the talking as the 1973 vinyl version. I bought only the Aloha FTD version. I won't be buying the Sony legacy 3 cd set with blue Ray. But the FTD cd set sounds amazing to me.

This Aloha From Hawaii 50th Anniversary BOXSET release is the same as Elvis Aloha From Hawaii (Deluxe Edition DVD) 2004. I have that 2004 release and really like it!

So glad I waited and bought the RCA/Sony and LEGACY release of ALOHA FROM HAWAII. Have seen on several ELVIS channels that this is a much better release than the FTD release from earlier this year. Got my email saying my copy will be here by noon today can't wait.

This audio remix and blu ray release is hands down the best. Even though the concert was video taped instead of filmed obviously limiting the picture quality, the blu ray release can extract every possibility that exists from the original video tape. The audio mix is far better than the previous white-boxed DVD release with Elvis' voice far more "front and center" giving you the feeling of actually being in the concert arena for the show. People criticize this blu ray release for not having the "Elvis arriving in the helicopter" scene and such - I could care less! Watch this on youtube if you want because I really think the blu ray release of this concert makes all of these complaints meaningless. Blu Ray itself has a harder surface than a DVD to help further prevent scratching of the disc because blu rays have more data than a DVD thus making the Blu Ray superior for long term archiving than a DVD is. So with the superior audio mix (original audio mix does not make it superior because some engineers are more talented at mixing than others!) and this remix is Superior to the original. This 50th Anniversary set is a winner.

Ed I don't own a turntable, yet I cannot stop purchasing the vinyl. I've purchased the Aloha set and will get the vinyl version too. The expense is horrendous though collecting

E D, I just heard on WDTN TV. on KZfaq, that there s an auction going on till Aug. 16, in Dayton,of a scarf worn by ELVIS at UD Arena on Oct. 19 1974,I don t know how much it will sell for, but apparently few $$$$$..The speaker of the station said how much he would love to have it....maybe you can get in touch with him, since he sounded like a big ELVIS fan, not for the scarves, but other items that you have,,who know ?????,It s just an info..

In the middle of listening to the first disc now via Spotify. At first I did not notice any difference from the original mix from 1973. However, as I continue to listen, I have noticed little sounds, and pieces that I had not noticed before. There might be sounds in the audience that are more noticeable. There were certain things about his vocals that were actually clearer than the original. At the moment, I am about 2/3 of the way through the concert. It seems that the engineers polished the masters to bring out much more of the audience interaction, details of his voice, and a few small pieces here and there of the band. I did notice the background. Vocals were a little bit clearer than the original. Compared to the FTD release, which I heard over KZfaq, where someone had uploaded it, it does seem to be somewhat different. overall, so far, I like it.

I listened to the rehearsal cd only. It sounds better than I recall from other releases.

I have a bootleg ...the ultimate experience and it's the best i have ever heard!!...not buying this pkg because i already have too many Aloha shows!!! I'm more in love wirh Elvis 69 to 72.... 😂

I just wanted to do a follow up with you Ed on this set because I got it yesterday and listened to the cds and watched the Blu ray. First the CD's. The main show and after show recordings sound excellent on my 7.1 system and the Rehersal Show has indeed been remixed by Matt Ross Spang because it sounds better then it did on the Legacy release back in I believe 2013. As for the Blu ray? They left off the Helicopter Arrival, they didnt fix the error when it flips to The Rehersal Show when Elvis introduces JD and The Stamps on the main show and the PQ and Sound are the exact same as the Deluxe Edition dvd set that I already own. I also own the single disc dvd Special Edition of the Aloha show where it is COMPLETE with the corrected introduction by Elvis with JD and the Stamps during the main show. So to me the Blu ray was treated like an after thought and just thrown in for the hell of it as they say. But anyone who already has the Deluxe Editon dvd set and the FTD set I would tell them to give this a hard pass. I am glad to have it for the remixed rehersal show and the 3am songs. I am now also passing on the Album because this has left a bad taste in my mouth honestly when it comes to EPE and Sony/BMG. I wont be buying anything else until they get around to re-releasing the TTWII 7 cd/dvd set they released a few years back. For some reason they aint selling that set anymore only the 2 disc legacy set. So until then I am offically done.

I am putting off buying this set part interesting and part Snowman in this release. We should have learned by now the Snowman never sleeps.

I do have the box with Blu-ray and the vinyl. I do like that the vinyl seems to have album inner sleeves with a different picture on one side. I do love Spangs remixing on the Undubbed releases of the Nashville '70 and '71 and EOT box set.....I haven't watched the Blu-ray yet. Hopefully a little bit better than the 2007 DVD release. Ed, I want to say that people who listen to Spang's remixing should listen for something very important. Spang's mixing definitely has this trait of making every part stand out on its own. The live stuff he remixed is incredible. He always makes Elvis's voice stand out more and the band and the backup vocals somehow stand out more. He does it without drowning out the other parts. You can tell he does this intentionally....The EOT box was so impressive. The rehearsals incredible sound. Yes, our equipment matters but. I love his work. Listen to Elvis on American Trilogy, rehearsal show. When he says "Get it baby" compare to older versions. You can hear Elvis clearer. Spangs work brings the little things like that out that just a nice stereo on its own can't do.

Imagine if Elvis re-recorded Can't Help Falling In Love for the after show just like what he did for Blue Hawaii, Hawaiian Wedding Song, No More, and Ku-U-I-po. Now that would be cool.

Dont worry I am guilty of it as well as my wife bought it for me because I am a sucker for Aloha as it is my favorite concert of the Kings that he ever gave. The cd's are the FTD discs which is why I wanted it. The Blu ray is the same as the Deluxe Edition set from what I understand and was told. Matt Ross Spang also DID remix the Aloha Rehersal show. All thats left for me is I am going to get the Album and when it comes to Aloha audio visual wise I am done. The same with the 68 Special, EOT ect. Sony and EPE I feel are starting to scrape the bottom of the barrell as they say.

In my opinion, by not getting a new phonograph, you are doing yourself out of the best sounding versions and denigrating the ongoing value of your (up 'till now) amazing collection.

i have the 3CD FTD from 2022, and though it's without the bluray, i have the 2004 DVD set, and i heard that they really cannot get much better film quality out of it since it was originally recorded on video tape and not movie reels... so i'm undecided whether or not i will buy this set, i guess i have to think about it a while :)... it is a nice set since here we get the shows, the after show recording session and the audio, compiled in one place in a very nice packaging... for that alone it's worth the money even if one has both the above mentioned sets.... since this is a Legacy set, maybe it gets more than just one run, or maybe it's like the FTD releases in that regard, i'm not sure... but if the latter is the case, one should not wait too long to buy it.... i'm sitting on the fence a little while... 🙂

I have the FTD set, so I almost certainly will NOT buy this one. Some people (referenced below in the comments) are apparently saying this set sounds better than the FTD set from last year...yet the mixes by Matt Ross-Spang are identical between the two sets! Plus, there's no way the Blu-ray disc can be noticeably better than the DVD since we're talking videotape from 1973...unless they did a very costly digital restoration, which they clearly did not. I would also say that the FTD booklet is better than the one you showed for this set. The text is completely different for one thing (based on what I read off the screen), and it doesn't contain many of the memorabilia photos and newspaper clippings shown in the FTD booklet, which crams a lot more information into its fewer pages. In the end, do they really think the hard-core collectors are going to shell out for both of these sets? I (for one) will not.

Still do not give up on vinyl Ed give it time as you love that format.

Another wasted opportunity !!! I got a chance to see the Blu-ray and to me it looks horrible. I will definitely be keeping my DVD from 2004. The first disc is definitely the one from FTD the second rehearsal show is newly remixed and mastered by Matt Ross Spang, as well as disc three (3). 😊

As far as I understand it Disc 1 is the same as the FTD release. Disc 2 was reworked by Matt because it wasn’t done for the FTD release. As far as the Blu-ray I don’t see much if any difference from the Deluxe DVD release. Please don’t quit collecting vinyl!!!

The Ftd version is a different mix and sounds way better.

I personally think it's a scam at this point because it's the same thing 3 times over and yet they still won't release ALL the January 8th-11th 1973 rehearsals.

You can make your own choices, but believe me Ed, you are going to regret quiting vinyl 😏 there are more great turntables out there than cd players these days.

Good review. I'll probably get it for the 5.1 mix on the Bluray. Your comments regarding all the different mixing and mastering versions strike a chord with me. There can no longer be "complete" collections, but I guess that doesn't stop people from trying. According to Discogs there are 161 versions of Aloha from Hawaii ,so you could go crazy just trying get those and, believe me, there are people who do. I don't see how much they could've done with the video since it was obviously standard def.

The C.D. reads F.T.D when put into a computer drive.. so it may be..the same mix as FTD. I didn't buy the F.T.D Version . My opinion.. great packaging.. great audio- sound on both the CD and the DVD. But... the Video quality is a real let down.. It doesn't look any different than the previous Aloha dvd boxset.. some years back. I wish the powers that be..really work hard to remaster the video.. and recut it into letterbox format.. and truly upgrade the video. It didn't happen as it didn't happen with the Elvis-T.V. special-comeback dvd box set.

Hi Ed , watched the rehearsal show on the Blu Rsy disc, must say wasn't that impressed, they have obviously upscaled the footage but looks very grainy as opposed to the deluxe dvd set which actually looks better

I haven't listened to the CD's yet. But I have seen all of the Blue-ray material. I think it's good though I can't see any improvement concerning the quality of the pictures on BD . I do think it's great that you can choose surround sound. I already have a 70's copy of the show on LP and the first CD editions of both shows. I bought my copy for only € 20.

I bought this purely for the blu ray. I’m so disappointed, very minor change in quality that’s it. It’s 4:3 ratio that u cannot widen unlike the original dvd. The presentation on the set it lovely though . I just wish the blu ray was separate and in a better presentation. The only thing different is the menu

FTD is almost the same mix, except of the rehearsal show ,wich is basically the same as the 2013 legacy mix. FTD should have used Matt Ross-Spang his mixes for both shows. Upside of Sony this time is the proper storage of the cd's, instead of the too tight cardboard storage of the cd's. I skip the legacy set this time, since I have the FTD allready, and sounds also very good. I also own the 60 cd box and the legacy 2013 double cd and the 80's RCA LP, so basically I'm set Aloha wise.

Very Disappointed the blu ray wasn't digitally restored picture quality is just like my DVD.

i was kind of waiting for this box and the reviews. Sad to see that there is no real good reason to buy it. The blu ray is not better than the DVD release. The lp version of the set has the original mix of 1973, so if you have that album there is no point at all for buying.

I have two legacy versions one with the white cover with Aloha on the cover and the second legacy version which was included in the 5 Live CDs box set this version is on the red Legacy label. I prefer the White cover version. I also have the Alternative Aloha album on Vynil. I will have to invest in a new record player for my man cave. Which is a better box set this new one with the Blu Ray or the Deluxe DVD set?

Ed - the concert was NOT broadcast around the world - it is a complete myth the same as the viewing numbers quoted. It was only broadcast live to places like Japan and the Pacific region. With regard to the album selling so many so quickly, that is rubbish too. The MSG album sold quicker than Aloha - Aloha took 11 weeks from release date to get to the top for one week only and that only happened after the US screening in April ‘73.

Attention:: just some FYI:: the vinyl mix of the NEW 50th Anniversary Aloha .. is NOT good , it sounds like a repressed old copy from an 80s cassette version of the album :: it’s just not done up to the standards that we , the paying Elvis public deserve:: it’s very muddled and a lot is lost in the new mix/production:: sorry to put this sort of review out there:: but I just feel , the true ELVIS fans , at this point, deserve better:: cheers

Disc 2 rehearsal showshow of the FTD was mastered by Vic Amesini and mixed by Steve Rosenthal and Rob Santos . Other than that FTD is Matt Ross-Spang.

All ya need is the original, anything else is wasting money that you could spend on something else that you haven't got on any other album

It's not my favourite album... the LP cover is plain awful with unflattering photos of Elvis and many of the recordings being spoiled by the trombone LOL. So I didn't purchase this, but it's surprising to hear that the sound quality isn't up there with 'A Prince From Another Planet' Madison Square Garden release. With so much material being released at the moment, I guess we all need to prioritise what we're purchasing. I have an 'Aloha' CD from around 1990 that sounds very good, so I'll probably stick with that. I've seen a couple of reviews now and it's a shame that fans feel a little underwhelmed by what should have been a seminal release.

...am and elvis fan...but this is a waste of money...I got all the original ones..and..thoes are all good for me...I also have this one in a small box set the came out..in the 80s..or..90s..the has both concerts the rehearsal and the concert of January 14.1973....and...am also a huge fan...of...sandro de America from Argentina...people...sandro was the first singer in the world to do a via satellite concert in the world on April 11 1970 from Madison Square garden...the concert was seen in 20 countries and seen by..800 million people at that time.....Google it up... ..Sandro..via satellite concert..

I have one problem with that I don't have a Blu-ray player and it's not fair to the ones who once his stuff to just have the Blu-ray disc I know I only have his DVDS I was hoping that when I got his Elvis on tour box set it would have a DVD in it as well as the Blu-ray but it didn't I don't think that's fair to us fans who don't have the Blu-ray

Next year will be the 50th anniversary of one of his least productive years!
