The belt he was wearing that he tried to explain while he was being interrupted was.....a gift from the international hotel in Vegas. It was a award given to him from them for his breaking attendance records performing at that hotel it was....made of gold.

I admire Elvis for keeping his political views to himself. Today's musicians and stars could learn from him on how to keep their mouths shut. He knew how to talk to the media. He handled that press conference like a champ.

It’s nice to hear Elvis answer questions for himself and say what he thinks. This version is a little choppy - stuff was edited out. I’ve seen the entire interview. It gives a broader sense of who he is, opinions, sense of humor, etc… Thanks for checking it out!

I enjoyed listening to this interview very much. He conducted himself beautifully and was very respectful toward others . Elvis father had a home on Graceland property to be near his son. Elvis grandmother lived in Elvis Graceland home. There were always other family members... plus friends who lived either on the property or with Elvis at graceland . Thank you so much for continuing this Elvis journey with us....⚡⚡💕🌻

A great interview is the one he did in 1960 when he came home to Graceland after his 2 year army stint. (Elvis' mom passed away after his basic training just before he got shipped to Germany. So he had to have mixed emotions coming home without his mom there.) But it's one of his best interviews. He was 25 yrs. old.

Great video! The REAL reason Elvis never toured Europe was because Elvis’ manager Colonel (honorary title) Tom Parker was here illegally (he was Dutch) and could not get a visa. I believe and I’m not certain, but he took the name “Tom Parker” from a deceased serviceman. I don’t believe Elvis ever knew that and maybe at the end of his life, if he did know…..he was to sick to care. More info: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonel_Tom_Parker

My take away was he conducted himself like a gentleman. He was their as an entertainer and not to push a personal agenda about politics or other private opinions. He should respect for other artists which is sad he doesnt get that in return from some. Some of the reporters questions were just childish. Parker was rude and obnoxious. Elvis revealed the weight he carried trying to live up to an image. Fans know about WHY he couldnt tour abroad and why he was making fims for 8 years while not doing concerts. Why he couldnt get material to record that he should have. PARKER ! RIP ELVIS and Thank you very much.

What comes across to me whenever I watch this is the power dynamic between E and Colonel. Elvis's body language changes and he reverts back to that slightly shy kid who fidgets his arms from back in the early days. The Colonel truly was something and kept Elvis slightly caged? Imagine the possibilities had he had a proper manager who cared about creativity and the art rather than just the 💸. World tours, great movies.....collaborations with other great artists.....possibilities would've been endless. Elvis should've got out but this interview shows me exactly why this never happened.

The movies are the things that saddened me the most because he has the reputation of not being a good actor which just not true. The things he could have done with good directors (as evidenced by King Creole) and good costars was never given an opportunity being The Colonel & the movie studios saw him a cash cow. Even some of the movies with singing The Colonel didn't let him do like A Star Is Born just because Elvis wouldn't get single billing as the only star of the movie or not doing West Side Story even though that role was literally written for Elvis.

As you know by now (since Elvis mentioned it in this press conference), they weren't allowed to film the 3 Madison Square Garden concerts Elvis did that weekend. However, we're fortunate that there was a fan in the front rows of the matinee concert, that did manage to sneak in his Super 8 movie camera, and he filmed this footage, which someone has synchronized with the audio from the soundboard. Take a look at this, if you want to see what Elvis at his concert peak looked like. It's my contention that Elvis never made a better live concert during all of his tours in the 1970's than the 3 concerts he did in Madison Square Garden, because he was a man on a mission, trying to prove to the world that he could be as great in New York, as he was down south (which of course, he was)! The "Colonel" was Elvis' biggest downfall in the end. He wouldnt allow Elvis to tour outside of the US because he(the colonel), was here illegally and would have been deported if he stepped foot outside of the US. Very selfish, and selfserving man who hindered Elvis from doing what he truly wanted to do...tour overseas. Elvis was beatened down towards the end, and the list of endless Dr.'s that were over medicating him all for the love of the almighty dollar!!😔 He always had a forboding sense that he would die young like his mother, and the loss of his twin, Jesse, at birth left him with a sense of loss and loneliness his whole life. But, for all the memories and great entertainment and music he left for us, we are truly blessed and thankful to have walked this planet at the same time he did💜 RIP Elvis, and our memories of you are truly, as your beautiful song says, "pressed between the pages of our mind"💜🎶🎸🎵🎶💜

@@michaelbristol6467 also, Barbra Streisand, from the time she got the rights to the movie "A Star Is Born", wanted Elvis for her leading man, and Elvis more than anything, wanted to do it. However, the Colonel's outrageous price for Elvis lost him the part to Kris Kristofferson...we'll never know how it might have changed his life and peoples opinion of his acting for the better.

At this point Elvis had been in the business long enough to recognize and avoid 'gotcha' questions from the media. In several of the books I have on Elvis he privately disagreed with the 'draft dodgers'. When Elvis was drafted the commanders wanted Elvis to join the 'Entertainment Branch' like many Hollywood actors did...but he refused and insisted on being treated like the other men. This not only got him respect from the guys around him but he made many friends including Joe Esposito and Charlie Hodge.

Presley's powerful manager, Col. Tom Parker, was an illegal immigrant from Holland and couldn't leave the country, so he kept Elvis in the states too even though it would've been great for him to tour the world. Parker also didn't let Presley expand his acting talent. He kept him doing cheesy films for years when there were other opportunities out there. It was only on-stage (as witnessed in his comeback special) and recording where Presley actually had a high degree of control over what he was doing.

Unlike many of today's artists, Elvis never wanted to alienate his audience who paid to see him (as opposed to what Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Bette Midler & Barbra Streisand have done). So, he wisely & professionally chose to say he'd rather not comment on the social questions, the women's liberation subject, or Vietnam War protestors. Elvis never performed technically outside of the U.S. He was in Germany during his Army years. I believe in the early 50s he did perform 3 times in Canada briefly in 1957. He didn't make appearances in Europe, Australia, or Japan because his manager Colonel Tom Parker -- born in the Netherlands, was a Dutch entrepreneur & didn't have a valid passport & couldn't venture outside the country (He was for want of a better word -- an illegal immigrant). Elvis was the first entertainer to ever be offered $1 million for a single performance, At that time, $1 million was an astronomical sum for one show. He turned it down.

I watched a video recently of a few of the guys with Elvis for most of his career and they say his slide bean after the amazing Aloha from Hawiaii that was telelcast via sattellite to over a billion people around the world. They said flat out that he needed new challenges, that Elvis was a thinker and do'er and was sick of doing Vegas etc. and wanted to broaden his horizons to travel the world but the Colonel kept booking him for these Vegas shows............two shows a DAY and he was deflated and bored and could not see a change in his now routine concerts. Here was absolute proof that the Colonel KNEW what he needed creatively and ignored it for his own financial agenda........and in inveterate gambler, he loved booking Vegas. He was a genius and a giant PR*ICK. Hope the movie reveals the ugly truths in this regard. Elvis was too creataive and curiously intelligent to be shoved in a the self-serving box of the Colonel.

If Elvis toured Europe and other countries, he would have sold even more records and sealed his presence worldwide. But Parker (his manager) kept him in the states because he could not legally move across the border as he wasn't a legal citizen in the United Staes, it was later discovered. But for one guy to sell over a billion records before MTV and the Internet and all that stuff is a huge deal. Elvis split the royalties 50/50 with the original writers of songs he recorded, and he did like 600 songs in his portfolio.

Without him, it is very Doubtful that Elvis would have become the biggest star in history. I say, Thank You, Col Parker!!! Did he have faults? Sure. He was a human being. Elvis did NOT have to agree to give him 50% of his money. I get it was extravagant, but Elvis did agree to it. So who was at fault? Only Elvis!

I understand Tom Parker was his only manager his entire life. He was in this country illegally and was afraid to go outside the USA for fear he couldn't return. So he never booked Elvis out of the country. Parker took about 1/2 of the income as his fee. He would run up huge gambling debts and Elvis would pay them off out of his half. Elvis was extremely loyal and chose to not negotiate his contract. When Elvis died he was almost bankrupt thanks to Parker. Elvis was also very generous to everyone. One story was at the car lot he bought his cars from, while looking at the cars he noticed a black man working very hard washing and caring for the cars on the lot. Elvis chose himself a car and bought one for that gentleman cleaning the cars on the lot. He was known to gift people cars, homes, jewelry, etc. He had a big heart and never forgot the poverty he came from. The home (named Graceland) was a gift to his parents when he first came into money. It was where he raised his daughter and where he died. I remember the night he died all 3 TV stations ran constant filming about Elvis. Everyone was so shocked and sad. He was only 42.

One of the reasons Elvis has lasted as long as he did other than his talent, and him caring about people is that they tried to cancel him. Back then if you tried to cancel someone people liked they would become even bigger. Unlike today when people try to cancel someone they get shoved to the side, and forgotten about.

I think one of the big problems with being famous is that the press are constantly looking for an angle from anything you say so they can label the person as being of a particular opinion, just looking for anything to bring someone down. Even back then it was the same as it is today as far as a negative media assault goes, just leave the man alone

The media treated Elvis like he stepped out of a time capsule. He rarely granted interviews or had press conferences, so when he was available to the media it was such a big deal. You never saw Elvis on talk shows, he hadn’t called into a radio DJ since the army. He was so far removed from day to day life. I don’t think there are any A-list stars today that are in his league. Elvis Presley was rarefied air.

The reason Elvis never toured out of the USA is because his manager Tom Parker was here illegally. This was never known until after his death.

Did you know Elvis liked things that had to do with Police and all that - guns, badges. I used to know more about it, but I can’t remember it now. I think I do remember him having honorary membership(s) to Police groups or something like that. Thought all that was cool 👍🏻❤️‼️

Elvis's manager didn't want him going to Europe because Parker couldn't go due to legal issues he had! I don't think Elvis ever got to go to Europe sadly. No matter what Elvis would've said on that issue.....he would have caught flack! lol He knew that! It seemed like Parker didn't like Elvis answering too many questions! He kept interrupting and talking over Elvis.... I don't know...maybe it's just me! lol Thanks this was great! Had never seen that interview before!

Tom Parker kept Elvis from performing out of the country, because Parker was an illegal citizen and was afraid it would be discovered. Parker made all the business deals and arrangements.

Sorry to complain. I LOVE 💕 your show!!!! But sometimes the pictures can't be seen. They look like shadows. The size is great, but can the background be darkened some? This is not just on the Elvis ones. I have noticed this o others also. 😃

What Elvis didn't know was that his shady manager was in this country illegally. He had changed his name also. He did not want Elvis to leave the country because he could have been caught. I wish Elvis would have gotten away from him. Maybe he would have lived longer.

Not touring outside the country? One of the main reasons, was the Colonel, Elvis's manager, would not allow him to tour outside the country, because it was said he (The Colonel) was actually afraid to for fear of being removed from the country because supposedly he was an illegal immigrant, which all of what I found to be untrue or hard to believe, there would have been arrangements for the manager to tour outside the country, he could have sent one of his close people with Elvis on outside the country tour. I personally felt that the Colonel was the wrong manager for Elvis at times, Elvis could have done much more than the Colonel planned, It was said to be that the Colonel was a big-time gambler and that why appeared in Vegas for almost 7/ 8 years to help pay off some the Colonels gambling debt? Not sure that was true? Elvis recorded over 700 songs, President Trump also awarded Elvis the highest civilian award an American citizen can be awarded, it was the medal of Freedom Award and many American citizens have been awarded that medal. The Colonel was noted for taking more of his share as Manager and did things behind Elvis's back that should have never happened, money-wise and in some cases career-wise, So you are aware, I have been an Elvis fan since 1955, and I do collect some Elvis items of choice. Elvis the image will live on for the test of time. Forever.

It's hard for me watching the French subtitles.. confuses me... Elivs' manager.. Colonel Parker was a Felon and a conartist and when he took over Elvis' s contract... he wouldn't let Elvis go outside the country because he couldn't leave the United States. So anyone in Europe or Asia or Austrailia...... never could see Elvis unless they traveled to the USA. SAD
