Great reaction; love all of the blues songs Elvis sang including the Christmas ones. They never fail to put me in a good mood. Realize I'm in the minority but having been forced to listen to one Beatles song after another on radio for days and weeks at a time; and having been an Elvis fan since I was a young child, I never did care for the Beatles. Oldest son loves them; youngest doesn't at all. Elvis was and is the G.O.A.T. no one will ever take that away from him; he had it all; the Beatles combined did not...1 of Elvis to 4 of them. And you're right, Elvis did record several Beatles songs; in addition to which the Beatles spent time with him in the 1960's and while it was awkward at first after several moments of discomfort, Elvis cracked a joke, that cleared the air & they all had a great time playing instruments together & talking music.

I forgot to add this... I was in elementary school when the Beatles hit the scene. I never could understand what all the fuss was about. Like overnight the kids no longer loved Elvis. One boy got rid of his Elvis collection of posters and such... and I was the lucky recipient! He didn't like me but everyone knew I was am Elvis fan. Though I liked some Beatles songs they played on the radio, they just didn't compare to Elvis in my estimation. He earned their respect, though, when the '68 Comeback Special was aired. That boy ended up going with his parents to see Elvis in Vegas soon after. Lucky 🐕!

Love this one! The Beatles came to Elvis’ California home to meet him. After the star struck Beatles recovered they jammed out on guitars together!

Seph, on some versions at the end of this Elvis song after the last 'what does it matter' is sung he then sings: 'not much at all'. A really great bluesy song and it was great when you picked up on the line, 'well i've never been to heaven' ... very heartfelt. Thank you for your great reaction. This is special to me as not only have I been on the tour of Madison Square Garden, New York where it was recorded (and filmed) but my late Uncle Jim asked the tour guide specifically if we could see the dressing room for 'Solo' artists only. In fact in a celebration of Elvis sell out Madison Square Garden concerts a bumped cd packwas released and had a booklet where Elvis heads towards his dressing room with a lightly coloured stone wall behind him. That wall is still there and Uncle Jim took a photo of me with the wall and entrance to the dressing room, where not only Elvis but countless solo artists (including Marilyn Monroe when she sang 'Happy Birthday Mr President' to President Kennedy) would have got ready for their performances!😀♥

This song has NOTHING to do with Elvis and the Beatles. This was written by the great Hoyt Axton and is tongue-in-cheek semi autobiographical for him. His mother May Axton wrote “Heartbreak Hotel” for Elvis. She was the Queen of Nashville songwriters! Hoyt first started acting and singing in movies when he was young. Most people now know him from the 80s movie “Gremlins”. He does a great singing cowboy acting part in the movie “Smoky” 1966. This song was a HUGE top 5 hit done by Three Dog Night. He also wrote the song they hit No.1 with “Joy To The World”. Hoyt had an immense talent which was always overshadowed by his mother’s songwriting. Elvis was always grateful to Mae Axton for writing a song specifically for him early in his career. I was working on a western movie which Hoyt was supposed to do the Title song for, when he passed away.

- - - - - regarding Elvis vs Beatles..... Elvis held nearly every record statistic over the beatles: most 2 sided single hit records; most top 100; top 40; top 10; activity on the charts. Most gold/platinum/multi-plat; success in many genres (beatles were stuck in just one); largest viewing audience 1.5b via satellite, and Elvis was first on the scene altering music & culture for everyone else to follow. He blending black blues with white country music (among others), thereby DE-segregating our music. Like Rufus Thomas said, Elvis injected something into black music that wasn't there before. He had a style of his own." While the beatles claim to have sold more, RCA (Elvis' label) are in contention because RCA did not always certify sales outside with RIAA. Elvis' gold records became so common-place that they stopped filing for the outside audit & paying the fees. Instead, they issued their own gold records. Chart activity for beatles & other more modern artist to claim to have exceeded elvis, BUT.... they all fall into the same trap of using the HOT 100 chart which began in late 1958. Problem with this is Elvis existed this chart by almost 5 years. Everyone needs to factor-in the TOP 100 chart (1955) and CashBox (prior to 55). Only then will you see the full body of Elvis' work. Suddenly, the beatles & others are in a distant second. Finally, the beatles DID exceed Elvis in one metric, most #1 songs, which they had 21, and elvis had 18, however elvis was in the army from 1958-60, and we can only imagine how many more he would have had, given he had so many before the army and so many after the army, so the trajectory is pretty clear. Aside from that , there are 2 more #1 songs he would have gotten Suspicion and Wooden Heart, if those two one-hit wonders had not beaten RCA to releasing their own version. One more: beatles who claim to have knocked Elvis off his perch when they arrived in 1964 forget one thing: during the bad mid 1960s movie period, Elvis was not serious competition for anyone. The beatles arrived unchallenged. Elvis was stuck in a 10 yr contract and put out mediocre movies and bad soundtracks (with a few exceptions). To prove this theory, in 1968 (when beatles were still together) Elvis began doing serious recordings and by 1969 he had another #1 song (beatles still together). Even at the zenith of the Brit Invasion, Elvis had a #1 song in the UK, and #3 in the USA Crying in the Chapel. This proves at any point in the invasion, elvis would have been still having hits. Not to say the invasion would not have happened, indeed it was a healthy thing, but Elvis would have been the only solid American presence in that period if he were not already committed.

"I have never been to heaven..." (3:40) I love this bit where you stop here and say, "God bless you... you have been now." And a brief flash of sadness crosses your face. "I'm starting to smile too much man..." (5:35) And then you do this hysterical thing with your lips and mouth, rubbing it like an 80s exercise machine. Oh, I have to admit, though I like to say I'm not precious about artists/songs, I think The Beatles might be an exception. I'm sure you've heard it all before, but their early albums don't come close to showcasing their talent or their finest material. They got better with every album. And they made a lot of them. So you can safely discard those first two albums. HARD DAYS NIGHT is where they really started, in my mind. Fire up "And I Love Her." It's one of Paul's best. His double tracked vocals swim in a beautiful haze of reverb. Ringo's delicate bongos and claves. George's emotive Spanish classical guitar solo and gentle picking. An early great.

Lyrics don't have to be loaded with words unnecessarily to be well written. Are these simple? Yeah, kinda. But there's a meaning and you draw conclusions on your own. Today's lyric writing is extremely simplistic and straight forward. Everything is literal in today's music. No nuance. Zero. So appreciate well written "simple" lyrics that have some ambiguity.
