She was the love of his too. Once you read her book, you find June throughout his life. She was the one that got away. He bought Graceland FOR HER, she started his spiritual book obsession & The Prophet by Khalil was given to him by her July of 1956... it was on his night stand the day he died. He bought other copies and gave them to friends but always kept hers, these picture of her were in his office her whole life, they came up with the TCB 🤣 code for the Memphis mafia (Red, Gene & The guys) The cherry Busters 🤭🤫, she died her hair black and he LOVED them matching with both blue eyes... sound familiar? Gladys loved her so much she told Elvis to marry her. He recorded songs he sang to her all throut his life. He checked on her throughout their lives last time in 1977. She even met Jim at the movies in 1965, and all the guys knew exactly who she was by name when they seen her in Memphis in the 1960s then invited her to the movies. Elvis and her picked James for their babies, Lisa Marie was the girl they chose. Marie is a family name for June. She seen him in Vegas several times. He pulled her into a closet and told her he loved her and thought of her his entire life. He asked if they made the right choices, and said he would take her if she just said the word... she told him she was married and had children. She said he told her 1956 is his most cherished time of his life and he quoted from the Prophet which is the title of her book. Those same verses he wrote in his Bible, Inside 'The Impersonal Life' and one a card in his wallet. I own a bunch of auction catalogs and I find pieces of June sprinkled on notebooks, in Journals with their numerology, even while he was with Priscilla & Linda. I am Happily married my self but I too look back at my first love with a full heart. To be young again! Here is the verses he & she shared from The Prophet: It was but yesterday we met in a dream. You have sung to me in my aloneness, and I of your longings have built a tower in the sky. But now our sleep has fled and our dream is over, and it is no longer dawn. The noontide is upon us and our half-waking has turned to fuller day, and we must part. If in the twilight of memory we should meet once more, we shall speak again together and you shall sing to me a deeper song. And if our hands should meet in another dream we shall build another tower in the sky. If in the twilight of memory we should meet once more, we shall speak again together and you shall sing to me a deeper song. And if our hands should meet in another dream, we shall build another tower in the sky. Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet ITS BEAUTIFUL. Says Everything he felt 🥰😇

Her book is my favorite elvis book and definitely the best gf book. On it's own it's a beautiful and bittersweet love story. You don't have to be an elvis fan to enjoy it. All the songs peppered in the book i made into a soundtrack and just listen to. So many of these songs have a different meaning to me now thanks to this book. The book is also so well written, it makes you feel like you've travelled back on time back to the 50s. I feel so melancholic and nostalgic for the 50s and I was born after Elvis passed. I'm rereading her book again and I just read it 3 months ago! I think I'll keep rereading this every year. Wish she did an audiobook as well of it!

I just re-read her book too. I love it. As you say - it brings you right back to those days. It's just so sad that he was always saying I want you with me June, I want you to always be with me and then all of a sudden everything went sideways. I do believe Nick Adams and Demon Parker had a little influence there, but if he loved her so much why didn't he fight for her a little more? Oh well - we will never know.
@nenabunena
@nenabunena Жыл бұрын
@@cherylspencer8024 the thing is June didn't fight for him either. Despite the Colonel and Nick he still wanted her by his side. He begged her to go to NY with him when she said no, he begged her to go to Memphis, she still said no. When reading you'll see elvis constantly making up with her and begging her to go with him or stay with him. June always goes off on her own or gets tired of his lifestyle even after only 9 days. He probably grew tired of always begging and making up with someone who seems like they don't want to be there. Add both the Colonel and Nick in his ear trying to break them up. He was fighting on all fonts and June leaves all the time, she used the first opportunity or problem to break up with him maybe because of her own insecurity with her dad. So who knows?
@cherylspencer8024
@cherylspencer8024 Жыл бұрын
@@nenabunena True. I think after she saw firsthand on the tour the girls clamoring for him she started to become more insecure (hell who wouldn't)! I too come from a divorced family and as a girl you almost self-sabotage relationships because you want to get them before they hurt you (abandonment issues) so I totally see her thinking that way. I just love their sweet innocent romance they had.

So...let me get this, they talk all night with a full moon and then, he approaches her from behind, wraps her in his arms and kisses her on the neck. That man knew what he was doing! I watched the video that Globetrotting with Trey on KZfaq did about Elvis and June. It's really good, and the home movies that June's Dad did of Elvis fishing is really good. Elvis had her Dad to take them out the following weekend so Elvis could take his Moma and Daddy with them. It shows Gladys bringing Elvis peanut and banana sandwiches to eat while Elvis is fishing. Their love story is so beautiful and bittersweet. Elvis is the best, hands down!

Elvis and June adored each other, all sweet and innocent too, he had the utmost respect for her. I've listened to a few interviews and its clear she lost the love of her life to his career . Elvis was under the control of the col even to the point of who he could and couldn't be seen with. He was told to cool things off with June and to concentrate on being seen with as many Hollywood starlets and w annabees purely for publicity, he was the colonels puppet and he danced to his every tune, it was at this point in his career he should have put his foot down and said no. He is st the start of superstardom here, but clearly has no control over his personal life or his many artistic and creative aspirations , I wonder at this stage did he ever realise that this was the shape of things to come for many years, how sad, no wonder his mum was worried about him she saw what he unfortunately couldn't . It must of hurt both Elvis and June deeply, their plans for their future wiped out in an instant. She clearly never stopped loving him for the rest of her life. treasuring those precious and special times they spent together. It makes my blood boil to think Elvis became nothing more than commodity to his master, used and abused by many, all for the price of fame, he deserved so much more than that.

Thank you for your comment here...your thought and mine about the Col are EXACTLY the same...he knew that he was on to somethimg Big with Elvis....that why he left all the other people on his lista and hooked on to Elvis like a keech....he and others did use and abuse him so cleverly in their own favor,and he was so naive at the time....

You’re so right; people talk so tough about his mother that it’s hard not to believe that she smothered him… until you get the perspective of someone like June: frankly, it sounded like Gladys was the smart one in the house. June saw it too: she describe Lovie as an excellent judge of character and she knew the colonel was full of it. For whatever reason Elvis didn’t put his foot down more with the colonel… I wonder if his father and how he was rather passive about Colonel’s involvement in his son’s personal life made son think there was nothing wrong with it. Might Elvis have had trouble staying faithful even without colonel? Maybe so… as beautiful looking as June describes him to be and a well-mannered Southern gentleman, I imagine lots of beautiful women threw themselves at him & it take a lot of strength to deal with that constantly. But I think they could have had a good life together. You see men like Austin Butler who played Elvis today… it’s publically known that he has a girlfriend… that doesn’t make him less popular. With that said they are rather private about their relationship. He is still the celebrity crush of many young ladies self included. I think with Elvis, women would have accepted that the man has a personal life if they had ever been given the chance to do so! He’s not a toy he’s a young man with a heart and feelings & for all we know could have set bought a beautiful lake house with June down in Biloxi after they waited three years and got married. I do know that while she was a lucky gal (we all know the King could kiss!) I also would not want to be her - my worst fear in her situation is if she regrets not giving him one last chance … like if she has, has spent her whole life regretting it? Because that would be painful to live with

Great video, thanks to June's story of her first date with Elvis. I loved her little story, but I loved the way she told it, too, no bragging about her looks being why Elvis chose her to be with him, and she's very believable telling us how she and Elvis spent their time together. No doubt, they "touched," meaning June let Elvis feel her tits or whatever, but June simply using the word "touched" gave an increased measure of truth to her story. I enjoyed the video and thank June for her modesty and honesty.

She even met him at the movies in 1965, and all the guys knew exactly who she was by name when they seen her in Memphis in the 1960s then invited her to the movies. Elvis and her picked names for their babies, Lisa Marie was the girl they chose.
