“Colonel” Tom Parker is the “villain” who is played by Tom Hanks. He was an illegal Dutch immigrant and was born Andreas Cornelis Van Kuijk. He was elvis’ manager for all of his career. Mostly everyone regards him as the villain due to his lack of care for elvis. He did some truly terrible things such as taking 50% of elvis’ income which is insane since most cuts to a manager are usually around 10%. He also constantly made elvis do terrible films for a quick buck and never let him leave the US due to the fear of being caught as an illegal immigrant. It is widely agreed he pushed elvis far too much and into his grave to satisfy his gambling addictions.

Over the last decades Elvis has become a cartoon like figure, a caricature, a Las Vegas wedding prop. How did we lose side of his significance as a musical and culture icon. This boy single-handedly changed the course of music. Elvis didn't invent Rock 'n' Roll, nobody did, but he blurred and challanged the strict line between black and white music like no other artist had ever done or ever will. He broke down the doors for scores of artists to follow, black and white. Artists we otherwise would never had heard of. I hope this movie will get that across.

Elvis' legacy will never die as long as humans are born with HEARTS. His music can get you through your life's heaviest burdens. There is true value in that. Back, brown or white we are all born with hearts and that same God that made me made you to. I always lived my life this way and that is what his music means to me.

The caricature of Elvis always turned me off of him. It is always played off as a bit of a joke. I love that this movie seems to be real and show Elvis as a person. It’s like getting introduced to him all over again. This actually makes me want to watch the real footage of him and learn more about him. Can’t say I ever really felt that before.

As a long long time Elvis fan there has been so much bias against him for this and that by people not knowing much about him other than rumours, that it was a relief and joy to see you approach it with an open mind. As others will tell you he was born into abject poverty and within a year or 2 of his life his father got put into jail for changing something like a 4 dollar cheque to 40.

So excited to see this movie! This movie Austin and Baz have captured the essence of Elvis ! There is alot of symbolism in the scenes ! The scene on ferris wheel is symbolic nod to Parker's carnaval days ! Parker was good promoter which eas good for him but never got Elvis the artist and this lead to problems later Austin has Elvis' moves and mannerisms on point ! ...I feel that this movie will show the man behind the legend ! Thanks for reacting to this! As an Elvis fan, I'm excited to see the movie. You don't know what you're missing. His life, from beginning to end, is fascinating and unique. He recorded over 700 songs in all different genres. And his vocals are incredible! People get so hung up on his jumpsuits which he only wore for for about the last third of his career. Most are not aware of what a huge role he played in changing cultures worldwide and in helping to end segregation in this country. Sorry I went on a rant, but if you explore Elvis' music and live performances you'll be amazed. There's a reason he's still gaining new fans every day all these decades after his passing.

The voice is a thing people say he didn’t speak with a accent or met at a carnival but you can’t fit it all in it seems director approach is it answers questions who was Parker well he came from a carnival background so it answers that ,the accent questions where he really came from though never had a accent but answers who he was , there’s twists but that’s why it works in my opinion it won’t drag out backgrounds, check out early Elvis you can’t help but be in awe , nice reaction 👍

This was a beautifully made film by the one and only Baz and the cast of unforgettable Tom Hanks, who plays the main character in Elvis' story for the film,and Austin Butler who is singing himself in this.He also lost his mother at the age of 23,the same age as Elvis when he lost his mother.This was a personal connection made between the two and brought him more confidence in providing the essence of Elvis Presley.The Black community was what shaped Elvis to be brought up into the legend he was and glad that Baz gave us the most factual evidence and made those inclusions of Elvis' life to form this film.No reason to label this film as a version of Elvis' life that is sad and heartbreaking,but his true life being told and brought to life in the way it never has been before❤

My grandma saw him live, in his glory. The man has messed up a lot in his life, but even towards the end, when he was heavily dependent on pills and probably only lived on 2kg cheeseburgers, he sat down at the piano and let rip, even with his voice. He had some talent. Unlike many other musicians today, whose voices are simply digitally altered.

No movie or impersonation does the real thing justice. The best thing anybody can do is just dig into his career and listen to all those hundreds of songs that they've never heard before and watch all the live performances on youtube. Believe me the real person is much much better than anyone has ever been able to replicate, and they've all tried.

Just seen it today but the trailer doesn't do it justice. Go see the whole movie, it's fabulous & Austin Butler's performance, simply astonishing as he nails Elvis hands down. Then there's Tom Hanks, a great actor from decades gone by so U can't go wrong. His portrayal of the colonel, amazing & he sells it. So u won't be disappointed & of course the songs, can't forget them. Watch Austin sing If I Can Dream wearing that white suit just like Elvis, he nails that footage. Great direction from Baz Luhrmann, another hit.

I hope they portray Tom Hanks' character, the Colonel, out to be the evil person he truly was just using Elvis. He could have been the one person to save Elvis when he went down a troubled road, but instead pushed him down it even harder. At one point Elvis wanted to sing only gospel and the colonel forced him to be a cartoon character instead.

Remember the king

This is going to be a great movie. Especially for me, as someone who's known (not personally, though that would be cool) and liked Austin Butler before this movie. But I think other people are going to know and like him after this movie. (And I wasn't surprised to hear that he's the one singing, because he sings in general, and impersonating and doing voices is a musical skill anyway. As someone who does a bit of it, but over here in Australia, I have some perspective on that subject). He's always been great. I knew him as a character called James on a tv series called "Zoey 101" which was very well scripted and well executed. But he's still the male Vanessa Hudgens has had the longest relationship with and he's naturally a blonde. 2 interesting pieces of trivia for yall. But I'm excited for this. I mean Tom Hanks is consistently brilliant as well. And to answer your "Why Elvis?" question, it's so that people can 'actually' know the truth about his story, rather than only 'believing' they know the truth about his story. But at least it's seems you've since realized from watching the trailer how arrogant and ignorant that 'question' is. Not you guys in general from what I can tell, just the 'question'. Other Baz Luhrmann stuff I enjoyed: "The Great Gatsby" remake (because yes it is a remake; I'd seen the original the previous year though in fairness it's not 'as' good), "Romeo & Juliet" also with Leo DiCaprio of course as well as Claire Danes and several other talented people and "Australia" the Hugh Jackman / Nicole Kidman film.

Parker may have been Dutch, but he did not have a heavy accent like Tom Hanks portrays in this movie (plenty of clips of him talking on KZfaq). Most actors who portrayed Elvis made the same mistake that Austin Butler makes: they talk with a deep voice that is more reminiscent of Elvis impersonators. Just look up Elvis interview clips and you'll hear he actually had a pretty high voice when he talked. And nobody who ever played Elvis was as handsome as he was, that is just impossible. Elvis was born in a 1 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. He always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. But he was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gth2dtx_sty-h58.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

Tom Parker was a Dutch immigrant and his accent faded through the years. He forced Elvis into years of singing movies Elvis hated doing and almost stopped him from 68 Comeback. Also missing is the fact that Elvis biggest influence was not R&B it was Pop Ballad singers like Dean Martin & Bing Crosby. He did not set out to be an R&B singer, nor was he. Even Gospel music, which the trailer shows, there were other influences beside those in the community. At age 14, he met JD SUMNER (of the Stamps Gospel Quartet), which he came to see during an all-nigh hymn sing in Memphis. JD was a big influence on him, and later joined his band!

Something not a lot of people realize.... a lot of the music you hear in this movie is NOT Elvis. They used some of this songs later in the movie, but all the singing done from younger Elvis was actually Austin Butler's voice. There are certainly some critiques to be made for this film, but you can't deny the amount of work that Butler put into this role or that his performance was pretty spectacular.

Elvis made 31 movies and at least 20 of them were pure garbage. Elvis and the Col had a 50/50 split. However with his shady side deals and being paid as a tech advisor on Elvis' films, Col Tom actually made more money then his famous & only client..
