For promotional purposes only. It is believed Elvis recorded this home demo in 1966. It is incomplete, Elvis made a dirty joke while singing along to the Riddle record, and the sound is, well, not too great (too say the least). That got me thinking again. Would it be possible to restore it? Well, you be the judge of that, my friends.
Some of the things that needed to be done:
1. Isolating Elvis' vocals from the demo (almost impossible).
2. Editing the vocals (serious hiss reduction, adding fade-ins/outs, layering left/right to avoid his voice from drowning in the final mix, leaving out the dirty joke and incomplete beginning).
3. Merging Elvis' vocals with the Riddle record that Elvis himself used.
4. Isolating Patti Page's vocals.
5. Editing her vocals to match Elvis' key and speed.
6. Adding her vocals to the mix.
7. Isolating the strings from the Patti Page recording.
8. Adding the strings to the mix.
9. Avoid clipping.
I won't bore you with more details. I just hope you like the final result. If only there were a better original recording. Can you imagine how beautiful this recording would have been? Anyway, thanks for reading and remember: there was only one king. What a special voice that guy had. Enjoy.
