Rulebook states it can only be a travel if you are in complete control of the ball which is why you see harden either slightly toss the ball while he steps or barely holds it with one hand where it can be considered not in control. Idk why “selling his soul” was the first thing you thought of but some players just know how to manipulate the rulebook. Kobe and DWade did tons of shit like that back in the day.
