Last week, I got to spend some time in the amazing state of Wyoming for the first time and got to talk with some locals about the Cowboy’s football program. Although we were five hours away from Laramie, there was still this amazing passion around the Cowboy’s football program. The locals talked proudly of how they went to school there and how proud they were that their kids were attending the school. They looked forward to every home game on college football Saturdays. It was truly magical and made me want to take a deep dive into Wyoming football. This is the story of Wyoming football, a truly special program.

Josh Allen’s impact was such that when he was drafted by Buffalo, you saw people walking around with a hybrid Pokes/Bills logo on shirts and hats. I have lived in Wyoming for 10 years. I’m a Texas fan, but I understand the importance of Pokes football in the state. They are the state’s lone four-year school in a state with one area code. I encourage you to go to a Wyoming game in Laramie. It is an amazing atmosphere that is to be experienced at least once.

There are only a few teams that can really pull off the clarendon font numbers on their uniforms... #1 being UCLA. And #2 being Wyoming. Both those teams make that font look so cool & classy.

Today, the Wyoming Black 14 is celebrated. The College Football Hall of Fame features a Wyoming 14 armband & Black 14 Banner, the 1969 Wyoming vs. BYU game. Around the fiftieth anniversary of the protest and racist dismissal. Their coach, Lloyd Eaton, removed all the black players on the spot for asking for his support.

I wish college football could go back to being what it was in the 2000s early 2010s when it was a regional sport from a recruiting standpoint. Sure the big boys could recruit nationally but it wasn’t what it is now

Only the big boys recruit nationally now, for the most part.. you might have a specific coaching staff with a pipeline somewhere, that's always been the case.

I’ve been to several Border War games since moving here, including the game during snowstorm and the last and first Border War games in Hughes and Canvas stadiums. But taking in the game at War Memorial is intense!

I like that you focus on some of the smaller schools in the FBS. You could also do a deep dive into North Dakota State. Another suggestion is maybe a deep dive into the Appalachian State-Michigan upset game and other famous games in CFB.

Good history...you butchered a handful of pronunciations, but that is hard if you're not from the area. Sawvel has a great attitude and the players love him. This will be a different feel for the program...one that needed a refresh.

you didnt talk about the cowboys in 1968 being a powerhouse and then the most important part of the history is the black 14. a very bad time for wyo football. please take the time to read about the black 14. it not only affected wyo football but byu as well also the coach that went to nebraska was bob de van ey not the way you pronounced it.

This new cowboy coach must stay on for 8 seconds, where a second is worth a year in many other places. He'll need to be at Frontier Days for his first years and the Hunt the high country for big game. His family will need to express their love of the Wyoming lifestyle and after a few years, he'll need to vote for the conservative candidates, openly. This now could be his demise.
