My husband and I adopted a baby out of foster care. We were older and he could have been our grandson. I struggled to make sure that God was leading the way. He was exposed to meth and was premature. We did adopt him and he did have behavior issues early on. He was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism this year at 7 years old. Today I came home from a lunch with a friend to a very upset boy who,, out of anger, threw a phone and broke a window. He asked if we could ever forgive him and we told him Jesus forgave us so of course. This is not the first nor will it be the last time we have such disasters but we do understand him a bit more all the time. It is a long journey but he is the best blessing in the world and we would not trade places with anyone!!!!

I'm a stay at home Dad, with high functioning Autism, who has two sons with high functioning autism, and wouldn't trade them for the world. Sadly, my oldest boy I don't get to see as often as I'd like five hours away, my youngest my wife and I have also had to watch our youngest have surgery for Hirschsprungs. Tummy upsets, colds, coughs, tears, and hearing how much it hurts him to have gas. It's hard and can take you to a point where you will be saying you wish that you could do it for them but you can't. The first year of his life was the hardest with every small constipation and every cough or cold a worry of infection.

Kids with autism can be comforted, people just think its weird or annoying or get mad that what they find comforting doesn't comfort us and use things like ABA to stop us from being comforted. You try living in a body where everything in life is at max volume 24/7 and see how easy it is for you to do what other people want when you don't even understand your own feelings. News flash. The character 'Rainman' was never Autistic. Rainman, was a character originally based on Fragile X Syndrome; and the character took development steps away from that original source. Rainman was developed as a character over time and prooduction issues saw the film having to be rescued from the scrap bin. For a time, Rainman looked like it wasn't going to be reach the silver screen. There was autistic bits in the character's composition, but the end result stood as a cypher for Autism, and not a factual or accurate representation. The cypher of Raiman has yet to be widely unpacked for what it was; a starting starting point that took Autism from being behind closed doors into a culture conversation. Autism is a challenge to culture, as well as the individuals involved. The way forward (do I need to say imo?), is to rise to the challenge, and rise above ideas of behavioural models, discipline, punishment and judgement; this is going to need more than just quotes of scripture. A move away from seeing Autism within the limits of restricting infantilising stereotypes, and allowing for Autistic Adult Agency, and thus stories told by Autist folk, is needed.

How about interviewing someone who has been diagnosed with autism?

I believe that God created us all perfect within the womb , but because sin is in the world it corrupts things from spiritual to flesh to the genetic level. But even growing with autism, I believe that God can make things better despite a disability. He can also use it as a strong testimony to further his kingdom. I also believe that the brain can be rewired overtime with therapy and counseling. The goal should be to become as functional and independent as possible. I think what helps is not to identify them as autistic but to identify them by what God can do through them.

Let me ask you, do they have any book by those either with Autism or Creation Scientists about Autism? I ask because the majority I've read or listened to rail against Christians and say how wonderful Atheism is and I'm really sick of it. I found out quite a few years ago now that I have high functioning Autism but am still yet to get the full diagnosis, in the mean time I'm doing much research but the majority of the research that's already been done is through a view point of humans just being an blob that evolved into a human and they even refer to them as 'animals'.
