If our brains interpret uncertainty as a threat, why do we still crave significance, meaning, purpose and to change the world when there are no guarantees? When the issues are as complex as those involved in the persistence of human trafficking and slavery, Joshua Bailey shares the greatest threat we face when trying to make change.
Joshua D. Bailey has spent the last 10 years exploring what it means to live a life engaging complex issues. Joshua is the Co-founder and CEO of the Gray Haven Project, a Richmond-based non-profit that is committed to providing hope, freedom, and opportunity to victims of human trafficking and slavery. He is also the Executive Producer of the upcoming documentary film Reclaim: Freedom Beyond Rescue, a film exploring what life looks like after trafficking.
With a primary focus on the impact that systems have on oppressed populations, Joshua actively engages in complex conversations that bridge gaps between different groups and beliefs. He believes story and the art of listening can shift our collective understanding of one another and the issues that impact communities.

From time to time, you may suffer periods of uncertainty, which on the surface appears as though your world is sinking. You might feel helpless and unable to navigate your journey ahead. So, try to get comfortable with uncertainty. We can never be really sure whether we're moving in the right direction until we arrive at our destination. We need to learn to deal with uncertainty, at the same time as developing our intuition regarding the best way to move towards our goals. Thanks Joshua Bailey

Is it really true that there is more enslavement now than any other time in history? This statement doesn't make sense to me. I thought we were shifting out of the slavery paradigm....

If that's true, it probably has to do with the total amount of people in slavery, not the relative amount (which presumably went down). After all, the current world population _exponentially_ exceeds that of even a century ago. The first article I found said something about an estimated 40 million now.
