Excellent. I have never known anyone add dro to the compound slide, but what a good idea. Exemplary work to your usual standard.

Very professionally executed. The clearance of the z axis read head under the mill would worry me because of the potential of swarf getting in there. I am thinking of mounting the z axis scale at the front under the feed rod. This is the first time I have seen a dro on the compound.

Yes a very elegant solution to z axis. I have stalled with my Emco 11 trying to work out a z solution and still leave mill head attached. Before seeing this I was contemplating adhering the z scale directly to machined surface above recessed - there is enough clearance for scale and ss shield under the carriage. Oil migrating and loosening adhesive over time was my concern. Adhering directly into recess looks a more elegant solution. I do not have special aluminium extrusions
