McGUFFIN is Waltham Forest's independent film society, established in 2001 at the famous EMD (former Granada) Cinema London E17. The society has staged innumerable film events over many years at venues across Waltham Forest and beyond. McGuffin also created and led the campaign to save the EMD Cinema when it was purchased by the controversial Brazil-based organisation UCKG who planned to use it as a centre for their fundraising and showbiz-style religious ceremonies. After a decade of campaigning, UCKG was eventually forced to sell the venue and it has since been restored as Soho Theatre Walthamstow.
