I randomly hopped on that tour after I asked some travel agent lady about snorkeling. I had no idea what to expect with this emerald cave, I knew nothing about it. I was quite surprised to pop out the cave into that almost magical lagoon. The fact that there’s a beach inside of the mountain is just out of this world. I can’t even imagine being one of those pirates that supposedly stashed their booty there. What a life

Been to the Emerald cave and it was every bit as good as you said. I do think your backing track doesn't do justice to the tranquility of the cave, maybe something a bit more ethereal?

Probably around 9 AM, there was a huge group that was coming in when we were leaving.

I almost lost my s*** when I was in the very back swimming behind the second to last person and I couldn't see AT ALL because the guide with the light was at the very front and we must have hit a bend. I flailed my arms and grabbed their lifejacket and held on for the remainder of the swim through the cave! Something about being in pitch black water without knowing what's around me instantly wigged me out. So yeah, on the way out I held on the whole time. 😂 I really liked Ko Lanta, a little more laid back and it's fun to ride from tip to tip on a scooter and check out all the beach spots. Buddy got his Honda Grom rental stuck in the beach sand for a bit. Good times! 😁

Haha that water was definitely terrifying especially going through the underwater footage later, knowing you were in the middle of absolutely nowhere. We would definitely go back to Ko Lanta, super fun island! Thanks for sharing your story.

Same here. Being the slowest swimmer, I was the last one of the group. I almost panicked that I drank some sea water and couldn’t see anything. For a few seconds, that huge dark cave became claustrophobic to me. When I finally reached the paradise, I was dreading the return swimming.

@@ELECTRIC-DNA so good to hear. Many other places in Thailand not so fortunate from what I hear. That swim thru the tunnel was crazy and a little unnerving!

I think it’s far enough away (and hard to get to) to be safe from being overrun. The tunnel was definitely scary. Aimee is a little claustrophobic but the tunnel was wider than expected.

@@ELECTRIC-DNA my wife clung to my neck , so it was a bit of a challenge for me haha...big jellyfish in the deep water too. One of our best experiences...Ko Lanta was great too. I miss Thailand...Cheers!

Haha, sounds like it was hard to swim. We had underwater GoPro footage from this swim and when we saw the footage later it was quite scary knowing what was just a few feet away! We loved Ko Lanta too, can’t wait to go back!

I did this cave swim in 2008... was not told how far or offered a life jacket or head lamp... the water in the cave was very rough and you couldn't see anything including which direction you were facing or if you were going the right way... pitch blackness... demand a life jacket and have a proper guide

That sounds intense! Our guide had a light and we had life jackets. It’s a pretty wild experience!
