Love the fold down scissor stairs..,those things are genius especially in smaller buildings. Also in regards to "the power outage killed the panel" although the power surge caused may have contributed to it's demise; it seems in a lot of cases the power going out and coming back on is rarely the cause but rather the equivalent of a light being turned on suddenly as the bulb is on it's last legs then it burns out. In other words it's very highly likely that the original panel's power supply (or whatever else burned out probably did so because it was already dying from age and the sudden application of power was just enough to finish it off. Seems to be the case in a surprising lot of circumstances.

Yeah exactly I doubt there was any surge. It was probably just on its last leg. It was probably gonna happen soon anyways and it was just a little bit more of something to provoke it.

For anyone concerned, the school district will have the fire alarm techs we work with back to the school to rectify all deficiencies to make sure all staff and students are in a safe building the fire alarm system is still functional as to detect, evacuate, notify building occupants and fire department. Thanks for watching!

I just watched a video of something similar in the UK. I must say our fire alarms are shocking compared to what they have In the UK. For any other American enthusiasts search up Gent Vigilon Sounder testing at school: their system are quite nice. It’s was cool to see how other systems look like in other countries. Their schools are quite nice too. From what I gather Gent is the flag ship company of Honeywell. Their detectors are apparently the most advanced in the world which I find strange how we don’t have them over here because I believe Honeywell would make a killing

Hey! Pretty cool seeing someone mentioning a video I made! A better example would be GENT Vigilon Service & Testing - Full Test / Takeover Editon, shows how we test our smokes etc too as we do physical testing! Gent is indeed owned by Honeywell (they're slowly phasing out the gent branding), detectors are pretty smart, we've got all sorts (Dual opticals, smoke heads with a VAD, Sounder and voice built in etc etc), love a bit of Gent haha

This is why the fire alarm system should have a surge protector so that way when the power came back on the panel wouldn't die
@nics-systems-electric
@nics-systems-electric Жыл бұрын
Most modern services have surge protectors at the main switchgear, chances are there wasn’t a surge it was probably on its last leg. but surge protection is always good

You should get one of those little straps/harness that goes on your chest, and you put your phone on it, and then you have both your hands free, so you can go around, and not try to reset pull stations with one hand, while filming.

@helpthehurtlondon
@helpthehurtlondon Жыл бұрын
thats standard practice to notify the alarm company every time you do any work on a system. If you don’t, then they recieve any troubles, supervisory’s as well as alarms, so the NFPA as well as the Canadian Fire Alarm Code require you to notify the alarm company

Do you know, is it optional in Canada to have bells or horns in classrooms? I noticed that many had strobes only. In the U.S, every room has one except the bathroom/washroom and closets, and even some of those have horns! I think it would be a good idea for the U.S. to authorize strobes or chime/strobes for classrooms. This way, children will have less fear of fire drills, and I even think they might have a better time getting the children out of the building. Having been through many fire drills, the jump scare at the start has definitely made children scream. (We were supposed to be silent for some reason.) It has even caused chaos, fear, and misinformation! (I remember at almost every fire drill hearing many students saying things like “this a real fire! RUN!”) That school had Edwards integrity horn strobes in every room. To me, those are some of the worst ones. I’m less bothered by bells and higher pitched horns like the Edwards EG1 and G4 series. Also, I can guarantee you, having been 6 years old at some point in my life, that my 6-year-old ears were far more sensitive to loud noise than my ears are currently.
@nics-systems-electric
@nics-systems-electric Жыл бұрын
Audible devices are only put in the classrooms. If the classroom can’t maintain 65 dB from the hallway, however, typically high volume in the hallway is loud enough to go into the classroom and maintain 65 dB, though in the brand new schools, horn strobes are put in the classroom and hallway, usually set on a lower volume in the classrooms, it’s always better to be louder than quieter

Im not really since my school which it was build after this one has few smoke detectors just depends on the engineer building codes at the time and as one of the electrician said the school may be different as it is near the base so it might be on property of DND which they might have their own standards and maybe commercial buildings on their property after follow it really not sure
