I’m a nurse. I was up out of my chair and talking to the screen when she started scratching her arm. Glad you were able to stay calm and followed the verbal instructions for using the epipen. I was very concerned and yelling at the TV when she started drooling. That is a dangerous sign when she can’t swallow her own saliva. Please check with your medical team about when and if you would need to deliver an additional dose as the reaction can return. Your family is amazing. I love watching your videos every Sunday. Stay safe and keep sailing.

I'm a retired labor and delivery nurse and in emergencies (which were numerous over my 30+ year career) and I was SUPER impressed with how calm (on the outside) you both were. You each had your own adrenaline surges going on I'm sure. But, you did not allow that to overwhelm you and cause panic. Well done. So thankful Willa is ok. Thank you for sharing your real life. Anticlimactic shock is caused by allergic reactions. Common allergic reactions in children include (Mayo Clinic) The most common anaphylaxis triggers in children are food allergies, such as to peanuts and tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, sesame and milk. Besides allergy to peanuts, nuts, fish, sesame and shellfish. (Note, the Mayo Clinic did not included vaccinations. ) Obviously it is not very common.

Omg, I'm so glad she's ok! My sister was about her age when we discovered she has an allergy to shellfish. We were tent camping in Canada at the time and it was prior to epipen's so we used benadryl til we got to a hospital. Great job handling that medical emergency 👏 And I agree, never knew mayo can have milk in it (I'm lactose intolerant). Gonna read the mayo labels now!
@KingWhiskers1
@KingWhiskers1 2 жыл бұрын
Mayo generally has no milk but the light versions not containing so much oil use milk powder as a bulker. Proper mayonnaise is egg yolk and best olive oil, nothing else. I have an allergy to Aspartame and that does horrible things to me. You wouldn't believe what has Aspartame in it these days. Glad Willa was OK though. Mum and dad are with it and prepared for all eventualities with their children.

Having lived with allergies my whole life, I can tell you that awareness of this issue is much much better than it was 40 years ago or even 30 years ago, my advice read the labels when you can, when in doubt leave it on the shelf. Though I have been known to rummage through the shelf to find the bottle where the sticker was placed in a different place and the english ingredients were visible, or even hold 2-3 bottles to be able to read the ingredients list around the stickers, so I know the pain. I've had colleagues wonder why I didn't participate in morning tea's at work, but when you don't know what the ingredients are it's not worth the risk.

How scary. Willa’s reaction was swift and continued to escalate. You handled it calmly and didn’t wait too long to start treatment which is commonly what people do. I carry an epi-pen too and they were hard to get in US during covid as well. My allergist gave me a vial of epinephrine and hypodermic syringes and showed me how to measure and administer. Now that the immediate crisis is over, I’d keep her on Benadryl for another 24 hours. After epi wears off there is sometimes another reaction. I wish you and her continued good health as she lives and deals with this.

Thank you for showing Willa's reaction because I think it is important for people to actually see what it looks like. My young son has a friend with a peanut allergy and he is over at our house a lot. I've often wondered what I'd do if I accidentally served him something with traces of peanut in it. Since none of my kids have allergies I've never witnessed a reaction before. Much love to you guys!

You handled this so good. Calm and relaxed. But i think there is more to the picture than you showed in the movie. Understands your frustration and struggle With this situation. And thanks for sharing this. Both of you are doing a good job. Keep it up. There will always be scary situations and happy times. "Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost" Wish your family the all the best.

So happy that your child will be fine. That had to be very scary. Also thanks for the advise on the epipen availability throughout your travels. As Americans we tend to forget such things and can't understand why, but it is true. Good to hear what is in your medical and emergency kit. Again thanks for the great video and hope you and your children stay well. Happy sailing .

You handled that beautifully. I saw you were trying to get her to take calming breaths (great idea!), which is great for toddlers to learn for a host of reasons. One fun thing our daycare taught us that might be helpful is to get them to hold up a finger to your mouth and say ‘Smell the flower!’ *big breath in nose* and then ‘Blow out the candle!’ *big breath out mouth*. It’s a fun activity for them to pretend and learns proper big breaths. Just thought I’d share the tip. But seriously, you both did amazing with that!

Wow. 1 mistake can be costly but well done on the quick response. I see and am glad to see so much support from everyone. I have 3 kids. My daughter has a wheat allergy. We, my wife and I, have all made "those" mistakes and like you guys, learned from them. Lots of love and thanks for keeping it real.

Wow....I give you credit. You stayed so calm on the outside, I'm sure that wasn't the case on the inside. Thank you for sharing as I don't think people in general understand how life threatening an allergy can be. As a dad..soon to be grandfather...I was close to tears for Willa. But I just knew she would be OK because you were prepared. Stay safe and well....sending ❤ from Sidney BC.

Nice job! Glad Willa is OK. For head bleeds put a cold wash cloth or ice pack on the back of the neck. This stops the bleeding immediately. Try it for the next nose bleed to see. Thanks for sharing your lives with us. Peace.
