Seniors are one of the groups hardest hit by humanitarian crises. In this video, we focus on the specific challenges faced by older adults, and how to mitigate and prepare for those hurdles.
To learn more about the basics that everyone needs, checkout our comprehensive, FREE guide. It includes information on Canada's 9 most common natural hazards, a template for building your own emergency plan, and a checklist to help you purchase or build your emergency kit.

In the video, we also mention that you can prepare your own bulk dry goods using mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Here is a video on that process: • Home Food Preservation...

being 70 years young myself my biggest fear is supply chain challenges, especially for my meds. The past few years have shown us what can happen, and probably have a good chance of only getting worse. I digress.

Hi johnnyyukon7887 - I hear you! Happily we've recently partnered with JaseCase, who might be able to assist. You might be interested in their "Jase Daily" program, which is currently available in the USA and will hopefully be in Canada soon. Here's a link if you're curious: jasemedical.com/?rstr=16950

Get off the unnecessary medications, keep away from doctors except for injuries, lose weight by giving up sugars and eat fat not oils, eat meat, protein etc . Or the simple one is DIE. Which is what it is about after all.

A weather radio has a siren and flashing red light, use it to get attention from neighbors or passers by

Living in zone a for hurricane evacuation, I am well versed in prepping. We have had to leave twice in the last two years and I go to a special needs shelter with my two kitties. I have a pet stroller and a bug out bag packed at all times. I just need to put food in a tote bag to take along with us to the shelter. I hate all of this but it is normal here on the Gulf Coast and I was raised ina family that was always ready.

I keep two folders on my kitchen table. One is for in case of emergency containing lists of medications and illnesses, power of attorney, contacts, DNR, etc. The second one is In case of death with my life insurance, person in charge of final wishes, burial information, etc. because I have no family.

You are assuming we will still have the ability to communicate with others outside our home. That will likely not be reality. Thank you for not including an annoying noisetrack in the background.

Thanks for this. It would be good to have a segment on living alone and having a medical emergency... i.e. outside a larger emergency. It would give some peace of mind to many to have a well thought out plan (a modified go bag for going to emergency, for example) as it is terrible to be alone and need help. Having a plan could ease the natural feelings of despair about not having someone there to help. (I say this after 2 emergencies this year, and in one case, although I have emergency contacts, they were all unavailable. My ability to cope was complicated by the feeling of being alone).

There are a lot of seniors and disabled individuals that I hope people will consider in their local community preparation plans for disasters and emergencies. Age creeps up on you slowly and then bam, you find you're one of those elderly you use to talk about. I'm working on this for my Local Community Group both with a CERT program and a Local Civil Defense Program. I do not expect there to be Emergency Professionals as the country continues it's down hill slide.

I quit Dr's and medications, in 2015 I am preparing. I am now homeless, and have no responsibility to a house and bills, and the danger of it exploding around me. I know that I will have to walk not drive, to a place of safety, so I will find one now. I am 69
