You forgot to mention some things that are actually quite important to know. On iPhones without a home button: - you can enable direct Emergency call with 5 clicks on the side button (skipping the slider thing) - you can toggle the countdown sound (while holding the side button and the volume button) on/off depending on your preferences. If I’m not wrong, the default for this is ON. So keep it in mind and understand the risks of having such a thing enabled, thinking of all the different situations in which you could NOT want to have someone around you know you’re calling emergency services.

Excellent title with NO DEMONSTRATION of the feature. A tutorial, yes, but the title does read “Emergency SOS iPhone - Demonstration”. A demonstration would have been nice. Otherwise use a title that accurately describes your content, otherwise you’re clearly using it for “click bait” to get more views.

Same here. Came to see it in action, so I know what to expect in an actual emergency, not to learn how to access it (which I already do). I think it may be illegal to use it without any emergency, and you lose your "whoopsie, didn't mean to" excuse if you then post a video of it happening. So we're unlikely to find such a video :(

@@valkyriav not really! If you read my post you would know that I an a retired paramedic and I did volunteer to work several shifts when someone needed time off. It’s a high stress job and NOT EVERYONE can do it. 9-1-1 dispatchers are trained and if you do end up talking to a GOOD ONE, they will pick on clauses very quickly. There is a video here on KZfaq where a caller called 9-1-1 pretending to order a pizza, and the dispatcher first did not taker her seriously but then with some questions he understood the whole situation. She was rescued from an abusive partner and all was great. So, always call even if you are not sure, and most people have not had the chance to call (a very good thing) but when the times come are you ready willing and able to call and give exact information? Or are you going to panic and not be able to say coherent sentences? The three most important questions to know how to answer are A) where are you? B) what is going on? And C) what is your phone number to call back if… For A, know the cross streets not just the address of where you are. Know the ZIP Code of where you are, there are times where a city may span two counties, so the zip code will give the dispatcher what jurisdiction should be involved. Know the color of the house, and any distinctive features. At night and for that matter any time you are expecting first responders turn on the porch light, and unlock the door. Put any pets away. For B know details if you don’t it’s OK, but try your best. Describe things with less emotions as possible and be as factual as you can be. For C know your phone number and the number you are using. Say it slowly it’s not a sprint you need to convey the information once and done. Slow down! And always remember the first responders are on their way, these questions are not delaying anything in fact they are enhancing the situation by knowing more. Make sure that the address number if well visible from any direction and from a far distance, first responders, delivery and ride share will love you for it. And my number one message is IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING! Do not reply on oh he’s calling. People have different perspectives on what they see and your details might be totally different from my details. You are not consuming a line, you are adding to the Situational Awareness of the first responders. Be brave… and don’t quit.

I had my iPhone in my pocket, and I had my AirPods in my ear. My father started talking to me, so I tried to turn down the volume… turns out I was pressing the power button, and I accidentally called the cops. Almost did the same thing again. Today, I had a dream that it happened again, but in my dream the cop told me to turn it off by the settings. I woke up and turned off the 🆘. Crazy how my dream told me how to turn it off, and I didn’t even know…

@_J.B.S._

Ok so I have a question, but first I need to explain the scenario I was in. Sorry I’m advance cause this will be a lot of text. Ok so my phone had for some reason started lagging real bad, the screen was entirely frozen and there was no sound coming out even though I had turned it on and all. In order get it fixed o tried several things, holding down the side button, exiting the app I was using by tapping the home button and so on. Eventually I tried a trick my mom had found by searching on how to turn of the phone in cases like these, only it didn’t work either (I was supposed to push one of the volume buttons fast three times and then holding down the side button) so I initially thought I did it wrong and tried holding in the sound and side button together. And this is where I made my mistake. I managed to by mistake call sos alarm by doing this, but I could neither hear nor see anything f, the only thing giving it away was that the phone started to vibrate when I did this, so I released the buttons and took a screenshot (I don’t know why since the screen was frozen but it was as if the phone still answered to some commands despite this so I thought maybe “behind” the screen everything still worked as it should) and then just waited. I couldn’t really do anything since nothing I did made the phone go back to normal again, the only thing I could do was wait for the battery to run out which luckily wasn’t long after. When it was out of energy the phone finally shot itself down so I plugged it into the cable and waited for it to restart. When I had enough energy I managed to restart in without hiccups. Later when I checked my photo album I saw the screenshot I had taken and it was a screenshot of that red sos alarm circle that you slide, a “turn of the phone” circle as well as a cancel button, just like how he showed here. How this picture was taken even though the screen was frozen I don’t know. But here’s my question: do I have to actually pull/slide the sos alarm circle to make the call or does it make the call anyway? Cause I never touched the screen while doing this and since the picture showed the sos and the “shut down the phone” circles I figured maybe I didn’t call anyone after all. This “call” was by pure accident and since I not only was unable to see nor hear anything of what the phone did “behind the screen” as well as it had so little battery there was very little I was able to do. If the sos circle must switched then that’s great cause try at would mean I didn’t call anyone but if not than I’m really worried if what to do since I don’t know I called anyone or not.

It would have been nice to go through the whole process. Now I know you did not want to call, but did you know that if you called ahead of time and explained what you were trying t9 do, the dispatcher would gladly go through the whole process with you and that would,d have made it a real cool video. After all we are all here to help save a life. Try it, call 9-1-1, tell them who you are, and what you are trying to do, and then say I’ll call in x minutes give them time to set it up, and for you to get set up. Record the whole thing. And the just say wow that is going to be an awesome video. You know, I was a paramedic for 33 years, (now I’m retired but still active) and part of that was volunteering to man the 9-1-1 dispatchers chair when someone needed time off longer than their allowance. And I had to coach many on what to do and how to do it to save a life. Good job! 👏👍👏👍👏
