Can you just use a thumb spica splint you can buy anywhere? I ask because I was just diagnosed with a nondisplaced fracture of the thumb. The ortho just said don't mess with it. That's it. I said um... The pain is ridiculous! He said ok, came back with the stuff they use after you give blood. Wrapped it. Said there you go. So will my fracture heal? Or can I buy a thumb splint to help?

I just got my Spica splint yesterday, without a stockinette. Just the hard fiberglass part, and an ace wrap just 4 inches up my arm. it's horribly uncomfortable.

When i got mine like this in 2015 they just put the fiberglass on my arm and wrapped it with an ace wrap

I have a possible hairline scaphoid fracture that was not seen at times of x rays hospital didn't make me do any follow ups at all just said come back if the pain or swelling get worse down side not getting better and still the same amount of pain

Wish I had a splint instead of full hand/wrist cast!!! I had a plaster cast splint post op of ulnar collateral repair for 10 days, that was more similar to this now, a full cast for month. Why??

I have a thumb spica splint for 17 days now they just gave the hard peace on my arm and thumb and then ace wrapped it lol so far still in pain like I was 17 days ago think all have to see a orthpetidc guy but worst part my doctor moved to far away was with her since I was 18 where she was was 12 minute walk now I have no doctor and my town no doctors are taking anyone and I don't drive just my luck so feed up as is lol worst I'm right handed

Hello sir, i had an small accident and 5th metacarpal was fractured, and it's just in position, doctor said, no need for k-wire , just split is enough for 6weeks. 2weeks back split is removed, now 2months completed, but fracture line still visible, how long it will take to go off crack line on x-ray, and I'm afraid of do physiotherapy, because when I'm doing physiotherapy some pain on fracture site. Give me some suggestions, please, thanks in advance....

very unfunctional. is it that difficult to tuck the thumb toward the palm? with the thumb extended the tip can't be used to grasp anything and the patient has a higher chance knocking it into things.

A little different from how I do mine. I usually make sure to put the cotton padding on before the fiberglass to make sure that there is comfort for the patient because fiberglass is very uncomfortable without it.

There's a big giant crease along the radial side of the wrist and the thumb is way too abducted, but other than that, pretty informative!
