This is one of the most incredible finds in Country Music History...
Ralph Emery was digging around in his warehouse and found a TV show he produced in 1968!
It stars ... Junior Samples... Sue Thompson... Warner Mac ... and special guests Johnny Cash & June Carter!
This show has NEVER aired anywhere.... until now! It is only available in this collection!
Johnny Cash performs a medley of hits with the original Tennessee three... and John & June
close the show with Jackson!
Ralph Emery is giving this show away FREE .... to you the country music
fan.... just for trying Emery's Memories! Order the collection and try it for 30 days... if you are not completely satisfied.. return it for a full refund but keep The Lost Show of Johnny Cash just for trying this great collection.

Ditto on this being 1968. Luther is playing the same gear as on "Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison. A sunburst Esquire guitar and a Black Face Super-Reverb. Voice sounds the same as at Folsom. LATE '67 at the earliest.

I wish the clip were longer...Ralph was cut-off in mid-sentence as I was wanting to hear more of what he was saying. It is an expensive set...but a lot of these program's were never aired or aired once and never rerun...it's an investment just like those country music box set collections from Bear Family in Germany. I hadn't bought the collection...it's so exhaustive...and there hasn't been any indication that Ray Stevens is featured much.

They could be wrong...Ralph, in the video, toward the end of the clip says it's not been seen for almost 40 years...so depending on when this clip of Ralph was put together, I'd say 2006 or 2007 and the TV program must be from 1964 or 1965 because the clip is all about experimenting with color and it wasn't the standard until 1966 or 1967 to use color on nearly all programs...Andy Griffith's show began it's color episodes I believe in 1966? By 1968 color was the norm and not an "experiment".

It's called "Emery's Memories" and it's tied with the various "Memories" projects...the books, two with the name "Memories" and "More Memories", plus "The View from Nashville" and "50 Years Down a Country Road". This isn't meaning that Ralph himself knows exactly when these performances took place unless there's a record, which there should be...if the production notes say 1968 then perhaps it is 1968...but I swear it's earlier, too, simply because Ralph says color experimentation.

Actually, color television was at least ten years old by 1968. NBC began broadcasting in color in 1958.

Hey Ellum, is this like the 2nd ever time us Luthermongers have ever seen that Sunburst Esquire? You're better at the cataloging his stuff than I...

Yea, its hard to get a good picture with him playing it. I believe that was his last Esquire. I need to get off my butt and find the link to the guy who did all the work detailing what he used over the years. He's a good guy to chat with. I just hunted down pictures for them and blab about what made them tick. Man, I REALLY need to get back after lutherperkins, com.

I actually think it was simply the same old story of networks not wanting to air anything country music oriented. the few country music shows on TV at the time were all syndicated and aired off the network. of course, Ralph only said they "shopped it around New York" so it's hard to tell if he means they tried selling it to a network or a syndication company. ironically, CBS was airing country themed sit-com's at this time...so it's anybody's guess why it wasn't sold to a network.

It had to be before late July 1968 because Luther Perkins died at the beginning of August 1968 if I remember well. I think that this show date more of 1966 or 1967 like you say

I really liked this video showing Johnny Cash at his best! But, Johnny Cash "lives" and always will in our memories. I do a tribute to him and recently wrote a song that is made to sound as if he wrote it, sang it, and his guitarist, Luther Perkins was playing it. You can Google: Johnny Cash Tribute Me and My Heart.

Just curious as to what cameras WSM-TV used in those days. Would it have been RCA TK-42 or GE PE-250? (I doubt Norelco PC-60/-70's would've been used.)

He's not on amphetamines here. But you're right that his voice degraded a bit. Mostly during 1969-70, and that's due to smoking. When June became pregnant with John Carter(she was 40 at the time), I suspect John's cigarette intake increased. He quit smoking shortly after John Carter's birth and his voice got much better. Check out some of his records from 1972-80; he sounds great.
