Emily Bishop, along with her nephew Spider, Roy and Toyah protested on the Red Rec to stop the construction of a Millennium Concert Bowl. Les Battersby, who took up a security job on the site (to wind them up) decided to take a chainsaw to one of the trees. Emily was furious and promptly climbed the tree and stayed there all night with Spider.
Emily was interviewed by the local news, and despite the freezing cold, she refused to come down. What an icon! Rita makes her realise that her protest has worked as her the campaign appeared on the Weatherfield Gazette frontpage so she came down the tree to much applause. They went back to the Rovers and Emily ordered herself a tequila slammer as she had made a bet with the other protesters whereby the person who came down the tree first had to drink someone else's drink. I don't think Emily quite liked a tequila slammer!
Great scenes, Eileen Derbyshire was fabulous in this and such a good sport. Emily Bishop is such a legend, we love her!
