This song is so underrated. When I first heard of it I thought it was gonna be just a lame sequel, Em trying to capitalize off his (arguably) best song. But as usual, I underestimated him. This song is so haunting, an incredibly well-executed continuation of a legendary song and story. The lyrics are haunting, clever and poetic, the beat is incredibly fitting, and the story subverts expectations and completes Stan in such a satisfying way. Fucking amazing. Never underestimate Marshall Mathers. Ever.

and it's missed by so many people also, i've seen reactions where people don't even put it together that the first few verses are from stan's little brother matthew's POV, at best they think it's just another crazy fan or something, just goes over a lot of peoples heads, and the line about the bronco's sucking was so awesome cause the album dropped after they fucking bombed it in the super bowl so it was relevant to real life shit haha. no matter how many times i listen to this song that last verse gives me the chills every fucking time, it's like the climax to the lord of the rings or something but in song form lol, never experienced anything like it in music before and it's a fucking rap song to make it more epic.

And Joe had the audacity to say Em has had no content or anything important to say in a decade. This song and Headlight on MMlp2 are beyond emotional. Joe better GTFOH. I wish us Em Stans all got together all over the world to rap all Em songs that have deep meaning and content on video then post them all to youtube and social media. Beyhive would have done that for Bey. We would be pushing people to listen to his amazing content and shutting them up forever.

I've been listenin to Em since I was 13, and had the same reaction when i heard it... The talent that Eminem has is just....i dunno man...its a gift from God.... There will never be another MC like Eminem... Even though alot of ppl consider him the G.O.A.T. i feel like its deeper than that...I feel like there arent even words to describe his ability to capture an audience by relativity... The day Em announces an official retirement is going to be a fucked up day for hip hop... You CANT top Eminem...You cant.... I feel like I'm rambling, but when you said "I'm startin' to think that he's immortal or somethin'" ...Cuzo, Ive been feelin' like that for years...

im right there with you. i first heard em when i was 9 years old. back in 1999. Im blessed to have "grown up" with him and listen to his life when he puts out music. hes truly the best to ever do it. this is what real music should be about. im pretty biased but i cant find any other artists that truly rap about their lives these days other than eminem. 99.9% of the music these days is garbage. i cant listen to it, i really cant. i think its because im spoiled with Em
@good_mourning5 жыл бұрын
Bro, em came out when I was a young teen. he was, and still is, a huge influence on my life. I jam to all of his tracks and given our upbringing was very similar, I relate to him on that deeper level, but everything you said is dead on and I'm dreading the day that we no longer get new tracks from em. Silver lining is if/when he does decide to "retire his jersey" we will have so much material from him that we could listen to his music and not hear the same track twice for a long time. see, we got all of His tracks from his albums and side project albums, the soundtrack from 8 mile, all of his colabs with other talented rappers, etc. Em put in work, man, and we got a rare gift from Eminem, the gift of not having to choose between quantity and quality. Em gave us both.

@@brandonb3311 real talk, rappers today neither rap about personal topics or about anything real. No emotion, no depth, just auto tuned mumble bs that is about money, drugs, cars and "bitches" (from what I've been told, I couldn't say tho because I can't understand a damn word any rapper on the radio says these days). We all have been spoiled, mostly by em and the rest of the GOATS from the mid to late 90s and early 00s. I think rap hit its pinnacle then and the reason rap sucks today is because it couldn't build any higher and the tower just collapsed down through hip hops foundation, into the dirty, 6 feet under. As of today hip hop, true hip hop is dead as far as main stream is concerned, but thank the hip hop gods that we have been blessed with some under ground rappers and hip hop legends who are pissed off and on a mission to resurrect hip hop and raise it back up to the mountain top, CAN I GET AN AMEN? Lol
@brandonb33115 жыл бұрын
Robert Trnka AMEN! Hahah. Well said man. Yeah, I just think the whole world forgets what music is supposed to be about. It’s a way for that person to express themselves. Painters express themselves by painting, artists express themselves by writing (music). Music is supposed to be an art form and a way to express yourself. It’s an outlet to express yourself. People forgot that and that’s why eminem has stuck with me since I was a child. He’s truly amazing at his craft. He told us his life story and that’s what I thought music was supposed to be about. Nowadays, it literally doesn’t matter what you say, as long as it has a good beat, you’re good. There’s literally no meaning behind any of the music these days and that’s what frustrates me the most! Granted, there are a few rappers that are still like that but the majority isn’t. Unfortunately, everyone these days don’t care about the real meaning of what music is supposed to be about. Another reason why I jam to all the “classics” in my car and not fuck with this dumb music that’s out these days

This is part 2 to Stan...with almost the entire first half as a double entendre. You can take it to mean he's talking about a relationship with a woman or take it as stans little brother Matthews pov. If you haven't already heard Stan then you'll miss the references to that track and you'll miss the reveal that he's talking about matthew. Stan: "Here's an autograph for your brother. I wrote it on a starter cap." Bad Guy: "...and heres your broncos hat ( bc they met in Denver in Stan)....you can have that shit back cuz they suck." This song was a surprise for fans. He kept this a secret and no-one realized it was part 2 until they heard the bars i posted above. He even thought about putting dido on the hook again but didn't bc he thought it woulda been a give away. And that last verse is a masterpiece. Also just fyi...when he says "I've been driving around town for like 9 frickin hours and 45 minutes now"....that length of time was actually the entire length of Ems discography at that time.

SinisterShady is it really? That’s well done if that’s true
@slicknickdanephew72746 жыл бұрын
its not lol that's 585 minutes which is about 146 songs with an average of 4 minutes per song. The actual run time of his discography up until Relapse is just a little under 6 hours, including Infinite. If you wanna include his projects with D12, bonus features, disses and unofficially released tracks it might be pretty close to 9 hours and 45 minutes but I doubt there's much more behind the significance of that amount of time other than it just goes with the rhyme scheme. "DRIVing aROUND your SIDE of the TOWN for like NINE frickin' HOURS and forty FIVE minutes NOW". Its a multi-syllable rhyme scheme, that's about it.
@Bond91Swe5 жыл бұрын
@@slicknickdanephew7274 You are joking right? Nobody can't be this stupid... You are right from Infinite to Recovery it's 585 minutes and that equals too exactly 9 hours and 45 minutes ffs! 585 minutes divided by 60 minutes = 9,75 hours. 0,75 hours = 45 minutes (0,75=3/4, 3/4 of 60 is 45).
@slicknickdanephew72745 жыл бұрын
@@Bond91Swe its not 585 minutes tho, i said thats what it would be if it was actually 9 hours and 45 minutes but its not. i did the math and its around a little under 6 hours

The entire last half of that song truly shows Em's genius. Not only does he have insane, deep, well thought out bars, a great beat and the ability to flawlessly change tempo - more importantly he can change your whole mood in the SAME SONG. You can go from rocking to the beat to thinking deeply. It's going to be a long time before we ever see talent like this again. Especially with all of this Dr. Seuss mumble rap shit coming out today. Castle and Arose together top it. I promise! It's a true story of him trying to make a living for his family, hating what fame did to his life (He has to make music or he would go crazy but he never wanted to be a Megastar. You don't see him living the "Hollywood life")and then his very really overdose in 2007. He tells the story very well and it is chilling. I know grown men who teared up. Btw Proof is his best friend, D12 founder, hype Man, guy who was always with him and he was murdered in 2006. It almost destroyed Em.

Hey man I love watching all of your videos even though I find this whole reaction thing strange, it's so great to go back 20 years and watch all of his songs through your eyes and experienced everything I love about him in a fresh way like this. There is so much emotion and the last couple of minutes of this song I don't even care what it's about I just feel it. And your reaction was exactly right. I saw him perform this back to back at Wembley a couple of years ago, I don't know any other artists that has this level of self awareness and is willing to tear himself to pieces in this level of self reflection. Bad guy remains the most incredible piece of emotional music I've ever heard from Eminem and I will blast this track on a running playlist every single time! Keep up the good work bro. I can't agree more that this is the BEST song written by Eminem! Which makes MMLP2 the best album of all time~ I don't think anything can top this seeing it with Stan which is somewhat 12 years apart! BTW, if you pay attention to the Stan video initially, the tombstone written "Stanley Mitchell", so the idea to come up with Matthew Mitchell is just amazing. One song you can check it out if haven't already is "My Darling", there was a lot of speculation when that album was dropped that there will be a Stan part 2, but Eminem affirmatively said "Stan is dead, there will be no Stan 2" however, as a hidden track, many would think how that song was written was like a “Stan 2" together with the other hidden track "Careful what you wish for", now, who would expect after two albums, there comes "Bad Guy" in MMLP2, unfortunately there wasn't a music video to it, I guess that is because Eminem has evolved so much, and to Bad Guy is a great song by itself, but only with the history of Stan makes it THE CLASSIC!

The last part is just brilliant. By the way, love your reaction when the end hits you. Like 25 to life, you never see it coming.

Great track with an unreal ending, em goes off at the end of this about all the people he’s hurt or offended with his words. Em has humility and takes accountability in this song. Unreal artist

One of Eminem’s best songs and that’s hard to say because he has so many good songs

When, not ‘IF’, Eminem Goes into the rap Hall of Fame, he’ll walk through the Doors and see the last verse of this song, and The Yelawolf(Best-friend-verse) Already Hanging High on the walls!!!!. #GOAT

Id have trouble naming a top 10 for Em, top 20 wouldnt be easy either. There are still a good number u have yet to react to for us yet. Theres more mimd blowers with straight bars & the sharpest daggers ever spit. He crushes spirits with genious lyrics & word play. Stay on this Em binge for sure

Hahaha you figured out it was Stan’s brother pretty quick. Bad Guy is for sure one of the best songs he’s ever written.

The sad thing is you would have to listen to all his early albums to catch the genius references and continuations of stories sprinkled throughout this. It gives even more depth and meaning to the way this plays out. This song is a masterpiece in every category that you could possibly check off when it comes to skill in hip hop. Amazing story telling, almost every form of wordplay from double entendres to similes, metaphors, alliteration, out of control multisyllable wordplay, flow, rides the shit out of the beat. It’s introspective, deep, cryptic, poetic, personal. I don’t know of any other song in hip hop that contains this much. It’s just a masterpiece.

This is one of his best songs, very smart writing (and the story it tells created from the stan song). But it's also very epic and does something other rapper's don't: shows a lot of humility. And finally, it just sounds great.
