I swear from 2001 (Prolly starting with Renegade) to like 2003 (Climaxing with Patiently Waiting w/ 50) Em's flow was so smooth it was like his voice was just another instrument, and his rhyme schemes stayed on point. With Encore and D12 world he stayed really musical but the drugs started to make him lose that perfect rhyming which, paired with his flow, was perfection. The Eminem Show? 8 Mile Soundtrack? God flow
@FiryaFYI
@FiryaFYI 3 жыл бұрын
The entire song is about rhyming unrhymable words in a manner so smooth we do not even notice. Verse 1 He spends his first few lines directly saying that we're about to witness a masterpiece. He says this with the primary words, "witness," "purest," "rawest," "flawless," "hardest," "honest," and "artist," all of which are essentially or completely rhymeless. (They have, respectively, 1, 2, 0, 1, 0, 0, and 0 rhymes.) The next line has the phrases "chip off," "old block," and "old dock," none of which have any rhymes. The name of the song is "Business," which has zero rhymes, and the theme of the song is Batman and Robin, both of which have zero rhymes. He employs both of these words in the subsequent line, and in the next line employs the words "Saddam" and "Laden," neither of which rhyme with anything. He ends the next line with the rhymeless word "pilot." He ends the line after this with the rhymeless word "hinges," rhymes with "oranges," "syringes," and then transitions to rhyming "inches" (again, none have rhymes). The first line of the hook ends with the rhymeless name of the song, "Business," which he rhymes with "what is this" and "get a witness" (which also has no rhymes). Verse 2 The first line ends with "miracles," which has no rhymes. He promptly rhymes it with "wilikers" and "syllables," neither of which has any rhymes. The next line ends with "Gotham," which has no rhymes, and the next line ends with "criminals," which has no rhymes. He rhymes "rap criminals" with previous "bat syllables." The line after this employs the phrase "skip to your lou" ("your lou" has no rhymes) and ends with the phrase "do best" (no word or word-string rhymes with this). He ends the next line with "do it," then "the shit," then "hated on," obviously no rhymes. He ends the next line with "no such thing," as if saying there's no such thing as a rhyme for it, but then immediately rhymes "no such thing" twice, and then says "so much more"-and rhymes it. Then, as if signing the piece, he finishes with two rhymes of his own name "Marshal," neither of which has any rhyme. Verse 3 Third verse functions the same way. In the first two lines he's found two rhymes for "duo" (one of which is the first two syllables of "you already"), and rhymes "dynamic" with "why panic," and rhymes "fully capable." He then rhymes "duet" 5 times in the space of 2 lines. In the next two lines, he rhymes "get to see an MC" with "these beats and be," while beginning a rhyme-streak with rhymeless "so freely"-as if saying he's still free even with the constraint of using only rhymeless words-and then rhymes it thirty times in eight lines. The whole thing is like how Bach would impose extraordinary constraints on his work and compose within those constraints as if they weren't even there because that's how much of a genius he was. Eminem is the Bach of rap.

Wow you broke it down for real, I always knew there were a lot of "impossible" rhymes in this track highlighted by rhyming "orange" but I didn't know the extent of it because he does it so effortlessly in so many different flows... I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not familiar with Bach's work but I've definitely heard the name and know he's a brilliant composer buy I am definitely familiar with Em and I've almost studied his work for years and years now and I've definitely understood that he's so good at writing that he's started to challenge himself and his fan base more and more that's why some of his newer stuff is sometimes very unorthodox with his delivery and flows because his writing is so fucking good.

@@eyegee6556 yes he had some songs with all sort of challenges in them Shady XV- Bar fiesta, almost every word has a double or more. Legacy - same rhyme all 3 verses. during The Eminem Show Era in my opinion he found a good medium between complexity and flow. so even though he's more complex now, he "sounds off" sometimes.

That's why the top two for me will always be the MMLP and TES. None of his other albums have had the hunger or anger of the MMLP and none of his albums have touched the flow and cadence of TES. He was in his bag on this one. He's of course only gotten better with wordplay, bars and metaphors over the years but those two albums had so much content in them. Hip Hop gems.

So by the time his third album "The Eminem Show" came out, even tho he's getting even better at rapping, "everybodys" used to how good he is, and aren't as impressed at this point. Yo Stevie you missed two doubles: 1. Em is referring to himself as the Batman (DRE being Robin) and he says that "it must be circus in town, lets shut this shit down on these clowns" which makes you think about Batmans biggest enemy - the Joker. Which means he thinks of all whack rappers (Ja rule, Benzino and others) as his archenemies and they have to go down. 2. As it was 2002 and Twin Towers happened already he gives 9.11 reference - first he talks about Saddam having his Laden and point out at the end of this scheme that hip-hop is in the state of 911. Of course it means that hip-hop is in poor condition and it needs an ambulance but it is a double - he thinks that hip-hop is a much bigger mess comparable to 9.11 Hope you read it 😉

My first exposure to Eminem was when I first saw him performed "Forgot About Dre" with Dr. Dre on MTV awards show 1999 and am a fan ever since, if you haven't heard or react to it, check it out man

@@bryansantiago392 yeah the 8 mile soundtrack plus the freestyles are still fire even without the movie context. It was around this time that green lantern started putting out the invasion mixtapes too, that honestly was my favorite hip hop era,2002-2009ish? So many marquee artists making timeless music. I wish Lloyd banks stayed around , I thought he was the best skill wise in g unit and I actually bumped into him on Long Island and a pizzareia when I was in my early 20s... we exchanged a head nod because I didn’t wanna act like a crazy fan but that was a moment I’ll always remember. 50 lived near Me also , his baby mommas house mysteriously burned down sometime around then... LL cool J and I believe Mary j blige lived near me also , along with a lot of New York jets before they were a laughing stock (short window)
